Depending on which hand your player is point the right analog stick left or right. This will either make your player go on the forehand or backhand depending on which hand the center is.

As you see the ref start dropping the puck push buck on the right analog stick to win the draw cleanly. If you have a strong centerman point it up to push the opposing center forward. If this is in the offensive zone this may or may not take a shot.

This is as simple as I can put it. I'm pretty sure there's a guide for faceoffs on NHL 11 somewhere on this site, and the system is pretty much exactly the same.

Here's the NHL 11 face off guide:

      http://www.operationsports.com/strat...faceoff-guide/

Nothing has changed for NHL 12, so everything still applies.

Thanks for this. I'm getting utterly slaughtered on faceoffs. I think I got outdrawn like, 24-3 the last game I played.

I think they have changed faceoffs in '12. This year it seems you have to use both sticks. I find I have more success kind of aiming with the left stick and digging at the puck with the right stick. I could be totally wrong here, but I seem to have way more success using both sticks.

The left stick is only used for tie ups.

You control the direction of the puck with the right stick.

My NHL @12 -> Interactive Tutorial -> Skater -> faceoff

I struggled with faceoff but then I did the tutorial couple times and had much better success. I suggest you do the tutorial since it pretty tells you the controls.

I love how EA have managed to make it possible to freeze every one of my players when my faceoff guy gets tied up, Its ridiculous that just because my faceoff man is tied up the cpu players can come in and take the puck yet i cant even get control of my guys till the cpu has the puck.

This leads me to when you lose a faceoff in your own zone and the very thing i am talking about happens and the cpu comes in and gets a free shot on net because the user is not allowed to take control of another user team player. Why is it like this?

I noticed this too, and it's really aggravating. It seems to only happen when you're player "loses" the tie up. By this I mean if you're being pushed out of the way, EA seems to think that the centers team who did that deserves to win the ice.

Honestly, the simulation value is going down, and I think EA has just lost their effort with making games on new consoles.

Like NHL 09 was the NHL 2004 of the PS3/360 era, after that they go downhill. We need some new developers me thinks.

This is still good for NHL13? Good read anyway... I just lost all but one faceoff in GM Connected game vs. Cpu, All-star/hardcore settings so faceoff difficulty slider was maxed. So anyone who beats Cpu in faceoffs with all-star hardcore settings, please share your tips.

I don't think it's possible to come close to breaking even in faceoffs against the CPU on all-star with hardcore settings. The most faceoffs I ever won in that situation was 7 our of 25 or 26. Then I took the faceoff difficulty down one tick and now win most faceoffs...

Yeah that setting is pretty hard, interesting that the slider is maxed by default. I win like 55-60% when slider is at 4 and when it's at 5 my winning % drops down to around 30.

The faceoff sliders on all-star hardcore settings are heavily biased towards the CPU. So it really doesn't matter if you select the proper counter to the CPU's move, the CPU is still going to win the majority of faceoffs on all star hardcore.

Try lowering the faceoff difficulty slider to get more realistic results.
