The board told me I have to sell a player...

because the player was unhappy. Two questiion:

What happens if I don't list the player and try to keep him?

Why did this happen? He was getting plenty of playing time and leading the league in scoring.

List him and take the first offer higher than his value because if you don't the board will sell him on their own.

Van Persie demanded a transfer in my Arsenal CM. I then got a message from the board saying "make this happen". I listed him and got a 50m bid from Real Madrid and a 36m bid from Barca. I stalled on both offers and the next day the board sold him to Barca for 33m.

They sign your check....do what they say.

Thanks for the reply. That kind of ruins career mode for me. Seems like a waste of time to work contracts and search indepth for players, scout and develop players and then on a whim they demand to leave.

Welcome to the cruel world of football.
        Blind to this impending fate
We let the world carry our weight
It's back breaks with every mile
But we all live in denial

So true. That is football. Don't get the wrong idea though, it doesn't happen very often. At least it hasn't for me and I have 5 CMs going on right now. I've only seen it once.

Haven't seen it yet myself. Year 2 in Chelsea and just started a Roma CM. I do like the feature myself.

Was forced to sell my star striker as well and I ignored all the offers.

Board sold him but for more than what I was offered.

it doesn't ruin career mode because it's realistic. i like it.

                  There are options.

Many times there is nothing you can do.
The transfers do not always go through.
Sometimes you can stall through the transfer period.
Turn injuries way up and get him hurt...Transfer will not go through for a hurt player.
Try and make the player happy - hardly works at all though. (once in about 50 for me)
Renew his contract - hardly works at all though. (once in about 50 for me)
                  Lastly...

Reload - do it enough and the random event may not happen. (I had to reload over 20 times for it to work for me)

Thanks. I don't follow international soccer very close but in a game like MLB, if a player isn't happy the team is under no obligation to get rid of him. Most of the time they wait until free agency.

From other replies this is standard practice in soccer. Sounds like the inmates are running the asylum.

the team is not obligated to do it actually, but they most usually do it because it's better than all the mess a player with this attitude can bring to the squad.

I don't know if it standard in soccer; I'm sure Carlos Tevez or Dimitar Berbatov aren't thrilled at the moment riding the pines but their clubs didn't sell him. Most often in baseball if you have a stud who you can't get into the game or even playing but in the final year of the contract, on a club going nowhere teams make a deal to get youth or to cut salary. I like the idea of these challenges in manager mode. Too many games let you buy anyone you want and just re-up their contracts with little difficulty. But I totally understand the frustrations of working on building a squad and not really knowing why players want out.
