Tuner fail.
POKECHECKING IS CRAP:Once again EA has listened to the unskilled players and altered the game. THe insane effectiveness now, is pathetic. Now we have Meatwallers (all the team in front of the goal) , who pokechk in spam fashion with great success. Try finding that in a real hockey game. F-ing lame.

Re: Tuner fail.
it dont matter what they set it to, when the bums online use the classic controls. the poke check with the classic controls goes directly to the puck. dont matter if your player has his back turned, you poke, he turns and pokes directly on the puck.
thats the main issue. these guys know that and use it!!Twitch

Really?? You're going to blame EA because a bunch of losers take advantage of a glitch. I am tired of people blaming video game makers because other people take advantage of a situation that they can. There are what, maybe 50,000 people in the world that can play professional hockey, but billions can play video games. Problem is, these professional hockey players get paid to play and standing 5 across in the crease and pokechecking would never get you anywhere in real life, but out of the billion people that play video games, this is their one chance to "win" and they will do whatever they can to do it. The problem is not in the video game makers, it is in the lack of rules that the people who play them must abide by.
Let's not chalk this one up to EA being a crappy developer, let's chalk this up to society instilling a "win at any cost" mentality in people.Comment

Re: Tuner fail.
no they don't. there is no "code of ethics" and respecting the game of hockey out there. find another way to enjoy online modes or abandon it in favor of a offline mode if you can't stand it.Comment

Re: Tuner fail.
I hate all those poke spammers in the NHL too! Everytime a skater skates straight at them they just knock it out of the way!
*note, the above was sarcasm*
Seriously, the people who complain about poke spamming are hilarious. What are defenders supposed to do, not have an active stick as you skate straight ahead at the goal every time?
I'm sorry, but theres a reason why you don't see NHL forwards dangle dicking their way to the front of the net all game long... because they can't! Watch an NHL game, puck handlers do not challenge defenders and bring the puck within their reach. They stay to the outside, remain patient, and keep their spacing. If they come within that 5 foot "bubble" around a defender, they will more than likely get the puck knocked off their stick.
And the same goes for me. If you try to skate at me, I will "spam" the poke button. I know you'd rather I just stick my thumb up my *** and let you skate into me, have no collision detection, and then go towards the net, but sorry, thats just not going to happen.
If you don't want to lose the puck, you better stay more than a stick length away (I know, what a crazy concept!)Comment

Re: Tuner fail.
Use the protect puck button ("A") or hold the puck away from the defender using the right analog stick.
That will draw a ton of penalties on overzealous pokers.
The stick lift seems way more effective and overpowered to me than the poke check. Especially since EA tuned the stick lift to result in LESS penalties (????).Comment

Re: Tuner fail.
I've had a lot less enjoyment (and success!) online since the new tuner. a LOT of guys just spamming the poke check button. I see guys just skating and constantly poking regardless of a player being near them or not.
Seriously, there has to be more of a penalty for using it - a loss of speed/mobility or something. It's really frustrating.Comment

A penalty for a defenseman who tries to knock the puck off your stick with their stick? That's nuts. Next you'll want a penalty for any defender who tries to block a shot by "diving".
Just cherish your glitchy dangling-pull-back-wristers and call it good.Comment

Re: Tuner fail.
Make jokes all you want about team loyalties, but he has a point.
EA can't be held responsible for how immature people just trying to win for the sake of it play the game. And what else can they do? Get rid of a control scheme that people who legitimately play with use?
People just have to realize that as long as humans compete with one another they will find ways to win, no matter how seedy or underhanded.
It's like the old saying goes "There is no honor among thieves".
While no one is stealing wins exactly, it's the same principle. Lazy people who just care about winning, not about playing the game it should be played.
And people can piss and moan and fault EA all they want to, but if it weren't the poke check it would be something else. It always is. That's why i don't play online. The joy of hockey is ruined by the experience of other humans. EA can't do anything to limit stupid people. There will always be glitch players who find whatever stupid thing they can to get an edge.
It's just the nature of idiots.Comment
