Young QBs to Start a Franchise With?

Trying to find a young QB i can build a team around that doesn't already start out amazing like Cam Newton for example (I want a challenge)

Maybe Jake Locker or Ponder or Mallett. IDK.

Anybody with experience with those guys have opinions? How do they progress after a few years, etc.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Ryan Mallet and Ricky Stanzi are my favs.

Jerrod Johnson, Terrelle Pryor, Tim Tebow, Curtis Painter, Dan LeFevour, and Joe Webb would be other good options.

      Don't forget Andy Dalton.

He'll drive you crazy year 1 trying to throw the deep ball but after that he gets really good.

Any young QB that fits your style will work if you are willing to put in the time with him to get good with them.

I just put up 253 yards and 2 TDs with Thad Lewis( Former Duke QB ) I am about to start a Denver franchise around him. He is rated low like Tyrell Pryor and Joe Webb but he can still get it done.

Christian Ponder is another good option, and as much as I hate to say it being a Duke fan, the Texans TJ Yates may be good too

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys!

I usual go for pocket passers but I think I'll go with somebody a little more mobile this time around..Im leaning towards Tebow or Locker.

Don't forget Kaepernick if you want a mobile QB.

I like Newton, strong arm, good accuracy, great acceleration, Only negative is he fumbles a lot if you don't slide.
Locker possibly, has good speed and throwing power but no accuracy.
Gabbert is good to use, he is only 21 so he has a lot of time left.
              Dalton- nothing special.
Ponder- decent but their are better QB's

I acquired Mallett in my first season with the Seahawks. He isn't very mobile, but I rarely run with the QB anyway. What matters to me is that he's got incredible arm strenth and quite good accuracy.
I'm in season two now, and he moved up from 71 OVR to 77 OVR. As he's only 23, I'll expect him to improve further.

I'm playing with Locker now, amazing rocket arm, good speed, decent accuracy short-med that needs improving, but throws a great deep ball especially on the move. i'd go with Locker.

I traded for Locker in my Jaguars franchise and made him my starter. Year one he struggled with consistency. He tends to overthrow/underthrow the short routes. But his deep ball is amazing, I've completed some crazy passes in tight coverage in year 2 with him. His arm strength is amazing as well, he can make any pass needed. His speed is also fairly good as well, kinda like Rodgers, he can scramble away from the pass rush to buy some time for someone to get open. Also another nice rating is his pay action and throw on the run. His play action I think is like a 90 so he works really well in a offense that likes to run the ball and the high throw on the run makes him good for boot legs and play action boots.

I just played a game with Jake Locker and he was pretty lights out. I think his speed rating is like an 84.

Re: Young QBs to Start a Franchise With?

I now know why there is all of this talk about Jake Locker. I just played a All-Madden game against the Pats and Jake Locker selling the play action kept the Pats defense guessing all game, here are the stats

                        Locker: 12-21 162 yards, 1 TD, 2 rushes 23 rushing yards 2 fumbles
                        CJ2K: 13 attempts 185 yards 2 TDs 0 fumbles

This game was a lot of fun, I am going to use someone with a play action rating in the upper 90s now to see how much better that is

no one brought up Matt Flynn?

He can get the job done.

If you run a West Coast offense, Colt McCoy is a great starter for years.

Surprised I didn't read anyone mention Tyrod Taylor for the Ravens.
