We used to complain that people weren't taking midrange jumpers in 2k online and now we are complaining that they make too many mid j's. I'm happy to see people actually taking them in a game for once imo. I had a bigger problem with fadeaways being more successful than they should be (Pre-patch on the 360) than I did with straight up mid j's.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Don't touch the mid-range imo, I think it's perfect. Just need to adjust how many 3s the cpu takes and would rather see more drive and pull-up mid-range Js than the number of 3s I'm seeing by the cpu.

          ???
All we want is balance of the two not one dominating another. In the past, scoring in the paint dominated and shooting(3pt) was nearly impossible to make but now jumpers dominate and slashing is gone. We can't even blow pass the D( Don't even mention the cheesy spin off. ) with ultimate slashers like MJ, Clyde, Dwade using their quickness and crossovers.

Yo I was thinking the exact same thing. In 2K10 people would go the whole game without even attempting a mid range J. Now they have incentive to do so. I think 2K is taking steps in the right direction.
            Lineup:
            PG) Gary Payton
            SG) '95-'96 Michael Jordan
            SF) Sapphire Scottie Pippen
            PF) '95-'96 Dennis Rodman

I'm only talking about online here. Have no problem with offline since you set it to 47 and its perfect. Re-post after playing a couple of games against Thunder or NY on ranked. And if Durant or Melo shooting 40 midrange jumpers per game is ok to you ... well don't repost.

Users should be rewarded for taking the shot that is most appropriate for a possesion, dunk, mid-range, 3pt or whichever and not always going to the same shot.

What is an appropriate % for you to make of midrange shots online Knick?
Based on hoopdata.com this is the average NBA shooting % from distances from the floor.

                at rim=64.1%
                3-9feet=39%
                10-15 feet=39.3%
                16-23feet=39.4%
                3pt=36%

Would you like these shooting %'s reflected in 2k's game online?

I felt 2k11 punished guys that tried to play perimeter oriented (ex: taking mid j's and taking open 3's off of drive and kick) online.

I use the 76ers online which equates to me losing alot but I've never got the feeling people were spamming the midrange in 2k12. I've seen OKC, NY, MIA, BOS,etc. Last year I would get destroyed by these teams in online play but in 2k12 I can atleast compete with them by being rewarded by taking open shots from mid or 3pt land this year.

First of all I'm a perimeter oriented player myself. And my answer to your question would be certainly not over 70%. Even if the OKC, NY, GSW players didn't spam the mid against you (they most certainly did against me and believe me my D ain't half bad) the thing is the mid slider is just to high.

It's not about hiting open shots. It's about not being able to sag off players like Rondo etc, it's about playing perfect D on the likes of Kobe, Melo, Durant etc and them still scoring in the 50%.

Tried a shimmy shot with KG, or a fadeaway from postup position with Dirk? It's 80% shots. So when people find that out they just spam it. If the realization rate for mid would be just a bit lower (it was almost right in 2k, still a tad high if you ask me) it would force users to vary their shot selection. And that's what it is about.

There are certain stars that should excell in their perimeter game but not when you double or tripple team them.

2k12 had me taking way more mid range jumpers than any previous years. After the 3point reductions post patch I think the game will play much more "sim." I don't know what everyone's problem with 2k12 is. It is a truly great game. I'm older and have played 2K since 2k1, and I think these kids are spoiled if they dont have anything but appreciation for what these developer's accomplished with 2k12...

i wasnt just talking about mid range shots, i was taking about contested shots. contested shots are like they are not even contesting, good players can shoot contested shots with jr smith, crawford, melo, kobe all day and make it. i understand if they create some space and pull it, but com'on contested shots should be... contested shots, not lay ups.

Hoping the "main big" patch/update has an option to let us disable the video montage before tip-off so us "custom music" guys can hear our own music...

I also think timing on free-throws are all off this year... I might get a perfect release once a game, compared to 90% of the time in 2K11...

And it's just a personal request, but I'd love if you guys can add a night time aerial view of The Garden during halftime... I've played about 30 games there and have yet to see it, but other arenas(Oracle, Staples, etc.) all have the cool night time aerial shot...

I only played quick games and I don't really venture online or the other modes so I'm just basing my experience with that.

The pacing is slower but the players still move pretty fast. During inbound and you're defending you can now use the right stick to use hands up instead of the Y button. You need to run plays so you can have a open look since the mid range game has been tweaked and you miss more shots.

I'm not entirely sure but I think the release point has been tweaked as well. I don't have that same feeling whenever I shoot as it's no longer money. It feels like you need to hold on to the stick a bit longer before releasing to make the shot.

Need to play more but the jumpshot part of the game feels different to me...

2k12 had me taking way more mid range jumpers than any previous years. After the 3point reductions post patch I think the game will play much more "sim." I don't know what everyone's problem with 2k12 is. It is a truly great game. I'm older and have played 2K since 2k1, and I think these kids are spoiled if they dont have anything but appreciation for what these developer's accomplished with 2k12...
thats because they simplified shooting to the point where you dont have to learn correct releases. Its a fail in my book

The pacing is slower but the players still move pretty fast. During inbound and you're defending you can now use the right stick to use hands up instead of the Y button. You need to run plays so you can have a open look since the mid range game has been tweaked and you miss more shots.

? you adding to the patch? midrange wasnt touched as well as game speed. 3pt success when guarded was the only change on offense in this patch.
