Re: Stanford Cardinal (NCAA 12)

Stanford on the board for 2012
Power running game lives on on the Farm

PALO ALTO, CA - New head coach Brian Kudron was very sincere when he said it was going to be "business as usual" on The Farm - meaning the bruising style of football established by Jim Harbaugh would continue to grow and flourish.

The early recruiting efforts have paid off in that regard, as the Cardinal has landed two of the Inland Empire's finest in 4* running back Kevin Purcell of Highland and 2* fullback Jason Miller of Palm Springs.

The 6'0, 211-pound Purcell is the nation's 19th-ranked tailback and will carry on the tradition of physically punishing ball carriers in the Stanford backfield. Purcell picked Stanford over BYU and Nebraska.

Miller, meanwhile, will have to put on weight (he's currently 202 pounds) to emulate the standard set by Owen Marecic and currently Ryan Hewitt and Geoff Meinken, but he is already a dynamic pass catcher from the fullback position, earning him the #2 FB ranking in the country. Stanford was his only offer, with Cal and Utah showing interest.

Meanwhile, Kudron's efforts to capitalize on Stanford's recent success on the field seem to be close to paying off, as the Cardinal is deeply involved with many of the West's top prospects - including the nation's #1 player, athlete Scott Mitchell of Yucaipa, California. The 6'4, 179-pound Mitchell is a standout at both receiver and safety, and he's said Stanford's academics have them out in front for his services, ahead of Oregon, USC, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Other prospects the Cardinal seems to be in great shape for include mauling 345-pound offensive guard Travis McDonald of Serra High School (alma mater of USC stars Robert Woods, Marqise Lee and George Farmer), 6'8 behemoth offensive tackle Kevin Kelly of Servite High in Anaheim, four-star tight ends Kevin Jackson (San Diego) and Marcus Davenport (Window Rock, Arizona), and four-star cornerback Kevin Estes of Fairfield.
