u have seen the phrase: "any usages of names, images & likenesses"?

they would NEVER do this. we can only hope they would remove the black arms & charging hex-eding/hacking to the game. nothing they can do about that right... oh my bad BLACK arms

I don't think 2K wants any unnecessary lawsuits on their plate.

Ya they can't release them because it is still technically their "likeness". It sucks but they can't do anything about it.

See I dont know about that...if you take the NCAA Football games for example, they don't give the players the actual names, but it is very clear that they are almost 100% the "likeness" of the actual players in the NCAA....

I'm pretty sure NBA likeness and NCAA likeness fall under two different jurisdiction.

maybe theyll become available once the players union officially decertifies in a few days

doesnt work like that. then they would have to sign them individually then.

but i would like to have placeholder for the rookies for online play. i mean i would to use irving online but i wouldnt mind using a generic black pg with his stats. Some teams online arent that good with those players

The NCAA has faced lawsuits in this regard and I still think the lines are at least a little blurry. In NCAA Football, true faces of players are not used. Rather, just loose representations (i.e. black guy with braids to represent Denard Robinson). Jim Brown filed suit when Madden Football had a generic player dangerously resembling Brown on an All-Time Cleveland team. Neither Brown nor the NCAA were successful on the video game lawsuit front because it wasn't actually a true representation of actual players.

In the NBA's case, to use, say, Kyrie Erving's face and everything else but his name, would seemingly cross that "generic representation" line in a heartbeat.

I wish they would, like when they release the patch add on the rookies arms. No need to announce just do an under the table deal like the T'Wolves did with Joe Smith.

Notice a pattern with all of these lawsuits? (Aside from most of them getting thrown out)

2K wants no part of a litigation pie.

Google this: "sues 2K sports likeness". Nothing but EA Sports lawsuits are shown in the results. That should tell us something about 2K.

Generic and randomized feature Rookies created, keep player positions the same, insert player ratings.

I'm sure they would have a hard time suing

See, if there is precedent there concerning using the actual face and everything, then why couldnt they just use a generic, or even no picture, of the player and just add in a player with stats resembling him.
