    2K12 Gameplay + 2K9 Ball Movement = Greatness

I'm still trying to figure out how passing and ball movement has become such an issue in this game. The slow, floaty ball speed. The incredibly long "reception" animations. At first I thought other core aspects of gameplay have improved and the same level of care wasn't given to that area so it's become more noticeable, but then I went back and looked at some gameplay clips from older games and was shocked.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pL-cwYsV64M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In 2k9 the ball movement looks like...NBA ball movement! Pass animations that "pop". Players catching the ball in stride without losing control or taking an entire second to "gather" the ball. No ridiculous exaggerated momentum on the reception. Entry passes that aren't bobbled in the air like a child trying to catch a tennis ball. It's refreshing to see.

It's disappointing, really, because EVERYTHING else about 2K12 is far superior. Unfortunately, ball movement is so fundamental and so necessary in that it ties together the entire gameplay experience.

I'm not sure who made the creative decision that NBA players should have trouble catching a basketball, but unless they can get it back to something that resembles NBA ball movement I'm going to continue having to force myself to enjoy this game, instead of just enjoying it.

I sincerely hope this is a major focus for the upcoming patch.

Wow, 2k9. The first NBA 2k for PC and my first touch with the series too. Great memories

Yea if there is one thing I'd take from NBA 2K9 (and there isn't much) it'd be the sexy ball movement.

I dought they can change passing that dramaticly with a patch but crisp passing like that would make the game so much better.

They need to get rid of the funky jump passes where I'm just swinging the ball around the perimeter and my guy jumps twists and like wings a floaty one armed pass that always gets bobbled. Honestly why is my player jumping to make passes when i never told him to leave his feet.

Forget 2K9, CH 2K8 had better passing than 2K12.

although i agree with this post... could it seem as if the passes in that video are so much better becuase the GAME speed is turned up? MY GOD; look how fast Iverson is getting up that court! only leaves me to assume that that is why the ball is moving so fast also. looks like its on a string.

hate to play devils advocate BUT that year is also the year that this forum was flaming with posts about TOO crisp of passing & every player being Tom Brady-ish!

              we need a happy medium.

2k9 would have been a classic with better movement....I still think its animation/ polish rivals new games...

2k9 isnt that fast, its just that 2k12 is that slow

<-- Probably the only guy on the forum who doesn't mind the passing in 2k12. Maybe because I run a very slow tempo offense it doesn't bother me as much.

no matter what type of offense you run, a pass is supposed to move at roughly three times the speed of a human...

You cant judge 2k9's passing unless you compare it to a 2k12 ghost scrimmage, there was no pass defense in 2k9.

You know, 2K9's passes aren't really that fast, and I'm not sure 2K12's is that much slower in many cases-- except that sometimes it seems to randomly result in a super slow, floaty, short distance pass that gets picked off.

And MAN do those walking dribble up animations add to the realism and atmosphere. Too bad 2K9's jittery, momentum-less movement was horrendous and almost unplayable. I'm sort of tempted to pop in 2K10 again.

Just as important as the speed of the ball itself is how quickly passes get off and how smoothly they're received, that's what I notice most.

I'm not saying there should never be failed passes. Jump passes from poor passers shouldn't connect cleanly, but a behind the back pass from Nash in 2k12 is bobbled almost every time. It just doesn't make sense.

If they can't improve it much with the patch, then they should universally set pass accuracy to 75-80 so clean ball movement is possible online.
