At least let 2K12 get all of his patches before you do this

Yea it is still an unfair so far. That would be like someone asking about LeBron after year 3 if he has had a better career than a retired Scottie Pippen. Unfair question. I see the motive but we don't have any idea where 2K12 will be after the big patch drops.

I love 2K11 though. But it has had the luxury of touch ups, unlike 2K12.

Grade: B+

Why:
2K continues to focus on the presentation and features so the back of the cover can look pretty and have lots of things to advertise like the Legend challenges and such. They do this and sacrifice the core gameplay. To the casual Ball fan (most of the reviewers) the game is excellent as they play on pro default vs the computer and marvel at the different filters in the challenges, and the commentary. For people like me who actively follow and PLAY basketball, you immediately notice a multitude of problems that are easily noticeable just from playing 1-2 games vs the AI on HOF or superstar. Players are completely overrated, with some people that shot 22-25% from behind the line having a 78 three point rating. WTF? Add to that, that 2k didn't take the time to properly make simulation settings, allowing the three point slider to remain at 50. Meaning that the majority of the NBA will be raining threes all day. Playing My Player (where most of the problems I cited come from because you can't change the sliders), the AI blatantly cheats, having small 6'0 guards do up and unders around big men with ease, having the AI make every buzzer beater shot, having the AI get EVERY offensive rebound (because 2k didn't code for your teammates to ever boxout), and having the AI do layup/dunk animations although YOU AREN"T CLEARLY STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM BLOCKING THEIR PATH.

Final Verdict:
The game is most fun playing against users (on the same console, online is a cheesefest) with altered settings, but with a patch to fix bugs and problems like:

- Having the ball tipped back court and you retrieving it results in 8 sec violation
- Your AI doesn't boxout
- AI doesn't react to your defense
- Up and Under cheese by the computer
- Changing the simulation settings, or allowing players to adjust sliders in My Player
- Trade logic
- Psychic defensive steals
- AI using guards with poor post move ratings to post up and score nearly 9/10

.....then I would bump the game up to an A-. It will never go up to an A because of the removal of My Player pickpus and Crew games

Agree on everything you said. 2k's unexplainable refusal to include customizable sliders in My Player simply makes zero sense. It's as if they actually believe that the default/sim sliders play realistically, when that is laughable at best. They need to stop deciding how we as players have to play the game, and allow us to do that for ourselves.

Since I mostly play with either the classic teams or customized rosters, 2K12 has the edge due to the larger amount of legends present. Naturally having to use the workaround method to put legends on the main teams is a small flaw (would've been bigger if there was no way at all), but the DLC might take care of that problem and add more legends to boot.

2K12 Gameplay is better and overall it's better..

They just need to patch physic stealing and the passing.... I don't know why 2K decided to use the 2 handed over head passing for 75% of the passing. That is meant for inbounding and throwing over defenders...

I can only speak on offline gameplay, haven't tried My Player yet because I knew it would need a patch...

Online is better also but they need to fix the lack of reaching fouls and fatigue issue...

I think at this point right now, 2K11 is the better game. Every time I play 2K12, it makes me want to play 2K11. It's kinda hard to explain...

As the trend shows anyt game thats made easier for casuals to get into will get praise from people regardless of overall quality of product. overall right now 2k11 is better. 2k12 is just flashy and easier to score in compared to 2k11. I like 11 for shot releases, on ball defense, and available modes WITH sliders editing ability. 2k12 is just a step back taking away all the basic options and replacing them with nothing . 2k12 is a rushed game believe it or not but people refuse to accept it because the post game is so flash while shooting is so easy. WHen you have to edit sliders just so mo williams doesnt abuse your team in the paint with countless fakes , the game isnt complete or acceptable. The outrage isnt seen on this site much because most only play 25% of the game every year (vs CPU) but everywhere else on the internet gamers are in a uproar of how incomplete this game was released.

THe patch determines the final value but right now to me

2k11-9.0
2k12- 6.0

Re: What would you grade NBA 2k11 Vs. NBA 2K12 in the Overall Game? (So Far)

Until patches changes things:

NBA 2K11 = A-
NBA 2K12 = B+

Why:

2K11 is the greatest sports game I have played. Still, it isn't without flaws, and that's why it gets a A-.

2K12 improved a lot of things cosmetically, and it has the potential to dethrone 2K11 as the GOAT, but cosmetics don't count for much when so many aspects of on-the-court gameplay have been changed for the worse. I believe, at a minimum, the core gameplay should stay the same from year to year; it certainly shouldn't take a step back in key areas (player movement, p&r's, passing, defensive ai). I'll remain optimistic until the patch hits, but so far it's a B+ for me.

Final Verdict:

Until 2k12 gets its act together and realizes its potential, it will continue to be, on the whole, a lesser experience than its predecessor.

NBA 2K11 = A
NBA 2K12 = B-

Why:

2K11 was so fun and had so many options, and also a deeper blacktop mode. The signatures may not be better than 2k12 but OVERALL I say 2k11 wins.I could do fantasy drafts with legends, street ball games with legends and current players, I was still having a blast playing the game when 2k12 came out.

2K12 is a visual masterpiece but the game-play is kinda annoying. The rubber-banding is so strong in this game its ridiculous, even 2k11 wasn't that strong, which leads to overpowering BS shots. The legends carry this game I'm not kidding. If there weren't so many legend teams I'll be right back on 2k11.
Really I'm bout ready to put this game on the shelf already.

Final Verdict:

Don't get me wrong nba 2k12 is a great game but I feel the gameplay took a step back. The game is better than 2k11 visually and with the legends, but that's it. Its not as fun.

Edit: ppl saying wait for a patch to compare. but really 2k should've used the 2k11 patch as a reference for 2k12 release. I'm not saying the game should've been perfect, but come on.

I would give 2k12 a lower grade, but my friends and I are still playing it (locally, online is abysmal), so I guess that counts for something. People say it's unfair to compare the two, since 2k12 hasn't been patched, but I think that's a cop out. 2k11 before any patches was more fun and enjoyable than 2k12 is today.

I feel like I've complained about this game to death, so I don't want to go into too much detail, but mostly, I feel like 2k just spent most of their time nerfing all the things people complained about in 2k11, as well as worrying too much that people would say 2k12 is "barely an improvement". So it's like they built it up from scratch.
