FLAWLESS SECOND HALF LEADS
BLAZER ROUTE OVER BUCKEYES 40-14

COLUMBUS, OH -
Vince Jones returned a interception 24 yards for a third-quarter touchdown and Adam Dyks passed for three scores Saturday afternoon as UAB beat Ohio State 40-14 in the school's first ever trip to the Horseshoe. The Buckeyes (0-2) jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter after corner Tony Morales took a Adam Dyks pass 52 yards for the interception return.
"It got so loud after that."
Dyks said. "I had to repeat plays constantly in the huddle, in turn lost focus for a bit." Dyks threw three first quarter interceptions. "Yes I contemplated benching him." Stated head coach Travis Rhatigan. "We told Lewis to start warming up, but Dyks ask for one last chance."
UAB, which has now started 2-0 in all four seasons under Rhatigan, had a 390-203 advantage in total yards.

The Blazers opened the third quarter amped up on defense as Tom Cox crushed Sanders for the sack, the next play saw Jones picking Sanders and returning for the score as the Blazers extended their lead 24-14 early in the half.
Sanders, who did a great job in the passing department going 10 for 16 on the day for 169 yards made another mistake over throwing his receiver Warren, and free safety Carl Holycross intercepted the pass giving UAB the ball back and Sanders his second straight interception.

Dyks wasted no time, far from the three interception first quarter, Dyks was back into the zoned in mode we saw from him last week at Troy, he threw a beautiful bombed just over the out reached hands of two Buckeye's falling perfectly into the hands of Vince Jackson for a 56 yard touchdown pass. Jackson wasted no time to let the crowd know he couldn't hear them after scoring his second touchdown of the game. The Blazers would get the ball back driving down the field with ease connecting on two third downs before tailback Cody Gore rumbled in from three yards out giving the Blazers a 38-14 lead in the third quarter.

"Coach just came into the locker room at halftime and asked us if we were done admiring the beautiful stadium."
defensive end Tom Cox said. "He was like are we ready to play football or do we still want to site see."
If everyone else wanted to site see they didnt let Tom Cox or linebacker Timi McCollum know. Those two single handily stuffed Tim Clark and the Buckeye run game. After a scoring from 16 yards out in the first quarter Clark could only muster a average of 1.4 yards the rest of the way.
"That was key for us.
If they were gonna beat us, it would be Sanders throwing and not Clark running." Said middle linebacker Timi McCollum.

McCollum and Cox both registered three sacks a piece. McCollum also led all Blazers with seven tackles. The Icing on the cake came in the fourth quarter with Ohio State backed up on the three yard line, thats when McCollum screamed up the middle sacking Sanders and giving UAB their second straight week with a safety.
For the second consecutive week the Blazers did not give up a single point in the second half. They held the Ohio State to just 1 of 7 on third downs forcing three turnovers. The Buckeye's also were plagued by penalties receiving 9 for 84 yards.

"You cant win when you turn the ball over and you put yourself in holes with penalties."
Luke Fickell stated after the game. "Against a team as athletic as UAB you have to make a drive count and we did not, we get three interception and only get seven points off of them."
Tailback Matthew Scott left for the locker room before the first half ended, apparently shaken up, but returned to the sidelines fully padded in the second half.
