I don't like cheese players but I don't like people dictating how others should play either. If you played against someone who cheeses a lot, just remember his username and don't play with him again. If a cheeser enjoys playing the game that way then let him be. He paid for the game, let him play the way he wants to.

Re: Sim vs Cheese - Lets debate
The steal attempts are out of control online and not enough fouls are being called. Good ball handlers are getting ripped from canned animations.Comment

Re: Sim vs Cheese - Lets debate
Does the protect ball control keep them from stealing?
Cheese to me is exploiting an unbalanced part of the game that is unstoppable. Sim is trying to replicate realistic play, disregarding gameplay holes that allow for easy success.Comment

Re: Sim vs Cheese - Lets debate
What's Sim more or less rests in the eye of the beholder. Everyone has their own vision of it. My main irritation is with reach-in spammers, non stop pump fakers and constant zone defenders. Zone DEFENSE can prove way too effective in 2k12(more than IRL) due to the undependable passing. People don't reach all the time IRL because they get called for fouls or take themselves completely out of position if they are unsuccessful-These things don't happen nearly enough in 2k12. As far as pump faking, I've never seen Ray Allen, Melo, Dirk, KD, etc pump fake 5 times at 3point line trying to bait the d into jumping IRL, but I see this all the time online.Last edited by NINJAK2; 11-29-2011, 01:34 PM.EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

Post shots are easy to guard, you just have to do more than press y. If its the turn around fade that's killing ya, anticipate which way they turn so you follow them, then if you can aggressive contest, (rt+y) but normal contests will disrupt it too. I love killing it in the post with any good post player because most people didn't bother to learn the defense for it and cry cheese when I have a team like the Hawks, and murder them down low with Horford and smith, and abuse the size mismatch Joe Johnson has.well let me be the first to say.. im not real sim player and i dont want to be one lol... the only plays i run is defensive plays.. why should i run offense plays all the time ? i mean i never really tried it but it seems slower running it to me... seriously... i just give the ball to whoever open and hope for the best.. i dont see how thats cheese ... if i gotta man open for a wide open 3 imma shoot it i dont care how many times im open .. ty lawson shot 10 threes against the twolves is that not real ?? thats not cheese to me if your open... real cheese is getting someone like carmelo and posting up every single play throughout the whole game and score ... knowing you cant really shoot with him but score on post ups that almost impossible to guard...
Also if they only post with Carmelo, put a bigger man on him. They either start doing something else, or its easier to defend his post shot.Comment

Re: Sim vs Cheese - Lets debate
You have to mix in some off ball though. I will straight out say when someone is throwing screens and what not and then kicking out, I stay with the original man for a second so I can lock him up and not be burned by a give and go. Once I have him locked up after the pass, I go back to covering the ball handler. Also if someone gets predictable with plays, I will take a gamble, go off ball and try to jump the pass. Nothing cheesy about that, you gotta outthink your man and put it in his head that the pass off the screen isn't always money.Well I'm no Sim Nazi.....but ONBall Defense is a prerequisite to being considered as such....put it this way...tell random people who play the game that offball d is soft and you will either get some who agree or people defending it.....try telling random people that onball defense is soft you will get the
or the

I hear what u saying....but its too many people out there playing that offball defense....if ur opponent is clearly playing onball d and not doing anything cheesy offensively and u still playing offball defense, imo ur using a crutch and makes the game unfair to the dude playing onball defense cause ur ability to stop the offensive player is harder to do than it is for the cpu....that's why I don't respect dudes who play offballl unless dude they playing is a cheeseball I see no excuse to play offball other than being scared to get scored on....You have to mix in some off ball though. People overall are just scared to give up points so they do anything to make it impossible....but ppl tend to forget that if EVERYBODY played onball defense, it would be a more level playing field cause both players have the same disadvantages thus making the competition more equal and fair...but this is assuming both players don't have a cheesy offenseComment

Re: Sim vs Cheese - Lets debate
I'm a huge sim player. I take pride in playing 2k as close as possible to real life. Every year, my friend and I start a couple of tournaments throughout the nba season, and we so much fun playing sim style basketball.
He enjoys sim style basketball as much as I do. That's why I avoid playing 2k basketball online. Too many cheesers out there that exploit the game and ruin the experience for me.
Cheesers only care about winning, where as I enjoy a game of skill, strategy and simulation. I don't care if I lose, as long as I have a fun sim game.Comment

Don't get me wrong, I still think it should be onball defense most of the time. But 100% onball defense is handicapping yourself out of some defensive plays where you mentally read the play, but the CPU player didn't.I hear what u saying....but its too many people out there playing that offball defense....if ur opponent is clearly playing onball d and not doing anything cheesy offensively and u still playing offball defense, imo ur using a crutch and makes the game unfair to the dude playing onball defense cause ur ability to stop the offensive player is harder to do than it is for the cpu....that's why I don't respect dudes who play offballl unless dude they playing is a cheeseball I see no excuse to play offball other than being scared to get scored on....

Re: Sim vs Cheese - Lets debate
This is the problem playing sports games online. Many don't attempt to play the game as it would be played in reality. They play video game bbal or football or whatever. I used to play Fight Night & can't count how many fights because someone knew how to exploit some glitch. It's just tough to find people who try to emulate proper strategy online.Comment

Re: Sim vs Cheese - Lets debate
Wouldn't it just come down to playing how you see teams play IRL. Example (I do not own 2K12), but I've played them all through 2K11, as a Bulls fan since the 80's (in my mid 20's) I play with Chicago, exclusively.
I've talked to several league members where rules limit how many points you can score in the paint based on pct. of your total points scored, and more rules etc.
As a Bulls fan our biggest asset is Rose's ability to penetrate, now if I'm playing a user who can't keep me out the paint for layups, or pick and rolls where we finish in the paint why should I stop IF, that's what they're giving me defensively? Is that considered cheesing?
Same coin, if they shut down penetration by sagging and I keep Korver, Deng, and Bogans spotting up for open looks why would I stop doing that if it's working?
I say this as I play offline only, or vs a couple friends, no leagues and I've avoided online play due to bad experiences.Comment

ive played in two leagues that are cheese and sim, i'd have to say i luv the sim league because ppl get their teams involved vs a chesse league where they try to score every time with their star.Comment

i mean if they let u go to paint then by all mean keep scoring but i dont like when ppl exploit the game's issues.Comment
