Thanks guys, I have been kinda surprised how easy the rangers have been, very little push back.

Going to jump up sliders a notch to see if it helps.

It could be a lot worse as they have outshot me almost every game but Bob has been a wall in net.

Leafs sweep the Rangers in game 4 thriller

The Toronto Maple Leafs have won their first round match up against the New York Rangers, the game turned out to be a seesaw battle that saw both teams vying for control of tempo and game flow all the way until the last seconds ticked off the clock.

While the Leafs came out with guns blazing, scoring four first period goals, the Rangers never gave up and climbed back into contention in the second period.

The game was high tempo and very physical right up until Kurtis Foster blasted a point shot that was glued to the ice and beat a heavily screened Lundqvist with only 36 seconds remaining in the game to give the Leafs a 5-4 advantage.

The Rangers won the ensuing faceoff and hemmed Toronto in their own zone, playing 6on5 Bobrovsky turned aside four shots as the frantic Rangers couldn't tie it up to extend their playoff hopes.

The Rangers offense failed them greatly, of note Marian Gaborik had only one assist in four games, Brad Richards was held pointless.

                Game one vs Pittsburgh

Pre game interview with coach Gilmour:

It was good having a few days off there, we didn't sustain any injuries in the Rangers series but we play a hard physical game and it's nice for the guys to be able to rest and recover a bit before the next round begins.

Tonight's focus will be similar to the Rangers except I expect my top two lines to play a strong two way game with who were matching up against, were not a home here so I don’t get the line matches I want all the time.

If we can lock down Pittsburgh’s top two, I say we win.

Pahlsson slaps in a garbage rebound goal

Post game interview with Mark Streit:

It was great to come out like we did, everyone in the locker room here gave a full 200 foot 60 minute effort and that resulted in a big win for us.

Not that it was easy, the game was very tight checking and high speed physical game, granted that’s perfect for us cause we enjoy playing like that and were good at it, we used that style to blow past the Rangers but then Penguins are faster than the Rangers and can play that way as well.

It was a great night for us all and an excellent game by both teams but I really give the credit to our 3/4 lines, they put in two goals for us and that turned out to be the game turning points right there.

Can't wait for next game, we all excited to get back out there.

***Note: I put time stamps into the box score as I didn't think the score depicted how close this game was, now you can see when goals were scored.

                Game two at Pittsburgh

Pre game interview with coach Gilmour:

Yeah last game was good, we got contributions from all our lines and everyone stuck to the game plan fairly well, I don’t think we have to change anything too drastically here.

If anything I would like to see just a little more out of our first line, and not depend on Bobrovsky to keep us in like last game.

Nash get's a game for this hit from behind

Post game interview with Rick Nash:

Yeah it was dumb, I watched the replay on it and I should have never done that, clearly seen the guys numbers and barrelled him anyway.

I got a call from Shanahan just a minute a go and I got to have an over the phone meeting later this evening where we will discuss the hit I made, I take full ownership of my actions don’t get me wrong here and I’m sorry for it.

Most of all I hurt my team, not just because I took myself out of the game but during the Penguins five minute power play they got four goals, and that is all square on my shoulders.

No one here had the delusion we would go the distance without ever loosing, but to lose a game like this, simply because I wasn’t thinking makes me angry for sure.

I am glad that the Penguins player wasn't hurt, and I have already called him to apologise for that hit, it's just not something I do.

                      Game three at Toronto

Pre game interview with coach Gilmour:

Well the league has decided to suspend Rick Nash for one game for his hit, Rick and I discussed what happened and you know what, he’s an emotional player who plays with that emotion on the ice and on that particular play he let it get the best of him.

He is so dedicated and wants this team to succeed. As a result of the suspension we will be activating Matt Halischuck who will see time on the fourth line which moves up Stalberg to the third and Abdelkader to see the second, pushing Kadri up to line one.

Losing Rick will hurt the team, of that there’s no doubt. I believe we are good enough, and deep enough to miss a game without him if we have to.

Post game interview with Nazem Kadri:

Yeah we came out slow there in the first, right until Kunitz ran Bobrovsky that is, Theo stood up for our goalie and we all took that energy and really went at them (the Penguins)

If it wasn't for that fight, and for them running our goalie the result of this game may have been different, but who knows.

In the end they decided to play our game, which is just fine by us, they got into our physical game and tried to beat us at it and well, we all seen the result of that now didn't we.

Game four at Toronto: Fight night round 4!

Pre game press conference with coach Gilmour:

Nash is done his one game suspension so our lines will revert to what they were, Rick is energized for this game and he wants to get out there.

We are expecting a hard physical game tonight with Rick being back in but were ready for that, don't worry, in fact we welcome it.

As for team performance I would like our D men to close gaps faster than last game, I felt they were a bit timid around Crosby and he’s the kind of guy you need to challenge, giving him free range is a bad decision.

Yeah we had a light practice yesterday, been a rough series and the guys are playing well, no need to get someone hurt in a simple practice. We worked more on our penalty kill and power play, zone control and gap control, mostly things that are lighter on the guys then a full work out, hoping to come into tonight's game focused and rested.

Franson rips one off the face off, top shelf

Post game interview with George Parros:

Defiantly a chippy game tonight, there was what four fights in total I think. Don’t know when the last time four fights broke out in a playoff game were, but I don’t think it was recently.

Was nice to see Nasher get the Gordie Howe hat trick, he was motivated big time this game, and we were ready for Pittsburgh. Even though it was really close until Phil (Kessel) put in that late third period goal.

I think both teams played really well and pushed for dominance, we just pushed harder, that's all.

Line one get's it done, Turris to Nash to Kessel, nothing but net

                          Injury update:

D Theo Peckham will return to the line up for Saturdays game in Pittsburgh, Peckham who strained his neck in a fight is eager to get back into the line up and help his team put out the Penguins in their next game.

                            Game five at Pittsburgh

Pre game interview with coach Gilmour:

The game plan remains much the same, most importantly though we need to come out and get on top of them right away and then give them no room to even breathe out there.

Gotta lock it down and play tight checking here if we get a lead.

Overall were expecting their best effort to come tonight, it's been a long hard series but this should be their best showing and I think our guys are ready for it physically and mentally.

Post game interview with Kyle Turris:

Well we did Nearly everything we wanted to, we had lots of pressure, played an up tempo hard hitting game we just didn’t capitalize on our opportunities really.

We knew they were going to come at us with everything they had, we backed them into a corner and they are a good team, they came out fighting and put us down tonight, I think there was 40 shots or something, maybe more.

We need to come out hungry next game and finish this off; we can’t let them climb back into this series.
