Lakers go cold during third quarter leading to Pacers taking advantage and game
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Over the past several years the Lakers have been the best road team in the league, the only team with a winning record on the road all-time, last year winning 27 out of 41 on the road, but this season the road has not been the kind, coasting trend that it has been in seasons past. Events that took place tonight at Conseco Fieldhouse against the Pacers gave some significant insight as the Lakers up 55-44 at the half and seemingly well on their way to their third straight win on this trip were about to experience a cold streak they hadn't experienced yet this season. The Pacers out scored the Lakers in the second half 60-36 including 28-8 in the third quarter on their way to a 104-91 victory. The Lakers had no answers in the third quarter only hoping that they could hold the Pacers to within striking distance to make a fourth quarter run and catch them. Matt Barnes scored nine straight points on three consecutive three point field goals to pull the Lakers to within six points at 86-80, but the Pacers were able to settle down, run their offense and connect on their next four possessions to increase the lead back to double digits and keep the Lakers at bay. For the Lakers the loss dropped them to 2-2 on their road trip with only one game remaining and put a little doubt into some minds as if the Lakers were able to maintain a strong focus as a unit on the road. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Andrew Bynum recorded another double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds along with 2 block shots. Matt Barnes added 13 points off the bench for the Lakers and Lamar Odom finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds in the loss. Danny Granger posted a double double of his own leading the Pacers with 23 points and 10 rebounds and George Hill replacing the injured Darren Collison finished up with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. Roy Hibbert added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 block shots for the Pacers and Mike Dunleavy led the Pacers bench with 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Lakers will finish up this road trip and look to go home with a winning record in their next contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
