Hey guys, sadly this is my update. My computer is having some issues I have to repair so I was unable to do the tables etc.

I played game 5 last night and it ended exactly the same as game four did in a 5-4 OT thriller. It's nice to see Carolina play hard, the past two games have been tight.

So with the series at 3-2 were heading back to Toronto, hopefully I will have the CPU repaired soon so I can continue with my usual updates.

Awesome! I think the leafs fans are the greatest because they stick to their team, and they hope for the best, unlike bandwagon canuck fans..

Well I dunno about that man, there are A LOT of bandwagon Leaf fans, so many in fact you can hear the collective snap of knee joints clear across the province when they all decide to jump off.

But I do think us die hard fans are some of the best, most loyal around the NHL.

Ugh, bound to take one. No time to panic, go back on the road and take care of business.

Nah no panic here, I am glad they are fighting back to be honest. Fought all year to be here, I want it to be a challenge.

Honestly right now the problem is my defense and goaltending, loosing Peckham has hurt more then I would like to admit.

Take care of it in game 6! Don't want to go back to a hostile Carolina crowd for game 7. Hopefully you can put together a plan of attack that is defense first to help out on the backend, then generate offense from there.

Toronto gets put out

I couldn't wait any longer here guys and I played the rest of the playoffs which seen the Leafs loose out to Carolina 4-3

Game 6 in Toronto was just bad for us; we were behind the 8 ball the entire time and ended the game losing 4-3 in regulation.

Game 7 in Carolina was an extremely hard fought game between both clubs, I ended up losing 2-1 in regulation but I cant fault the guys as it was such a good game it really could have went either way.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has taken the time to read this and post comments, I really do appreciate it, and I am sorry for the anti climatic ending to this season but it couldn't be helped, with the dying of my video card there wasn’t much I could do.

I have decided that, since this is the last year of my contract in Toronto and I have failed 2/3 season to achieve what management has wanted that I will carry on this chise with whatever team I sign with in the off season, but I will of course sign any deal Toronto passes my way, if they offer anything at all.

Press conference with Brian Burke

Thanks for gathering guys, now that the playoffs have ended and we have taken the time to form our strategies for what’s remaining of the off season and heading into this years draft I wanted to take some time today to discuss a few things with everyone here in Leaf land.

First off I want to announce that the Toronto Maple Leafs and I have agreed to a five year extension on my contract here, which I was extremely happy and excited to sign, it's been a rocky road but one worth traveling here in Toronto.

I really can’t express how excited I am to continue on the journey with this club into the future and expand on the success of this particular last season we had.

I also wanted to express my gratitude to everyone here in Toronto, and that includes everyone, I want to thank the fans for being as patient as possible with me and the club, we needed time to develop and produce, and this last season is proof of our success here.

I wanted to thank our management and coaching staff, everyone has done a top notch job from scout to assistant GM. Doug Gilmour has done a fantastic job here in Toronto and as his contract is expiring this off season we will be sitting down shortly and talking contract with him as well, I am hopeful that Doug will re sign with us here as I believe he was a big part of our strong season as well.

Looking forward to this off season it is hard to say what will happen, but we have many contracts on many key players that need to be addressed and now that things are starting to fall into line we can begin that process and lock up the guys we feel will help us get back into the playoffs for next season.

As you all know we are entering this draft day with not many picks to use, but our scouts had told us they believed this was a weak draft and our depth in the minors is strong so we believe this will be of minor consequence to the team overall, seeing where those picks went, I believe they we well spent considering we went from a perennial playoff missing team to the conference finals.

Seeing as we only have a few weeks remaining here until draft day expected the news to be flowing from Toronto, there are a lot of loose ends that need to be tied up.

Once again before I leave, Thank you all for the jobs you have done, I am excited to be here for the next five years and I am proud of what you all have accomplished.

Yeah once they started to come back it was a whole different team and I couldnt contain them, Peckham was a massive loss at the end there.

Too bad about the loss, still a great season though.

Thank you for following and posting, so far my big plans are just trying to retain the guys I got. Many big names up for renewal this year and coming off big seasons, i have about seven million in cap to work with, I hope it's enough.

Glad you were able to hang with the Leafs, nothing is worse than starting with a new team that you didn't build. I mean it can be fun because you get to make it your own, but a little bit of passion goes away, and you can't play or succeed at the greatest game on Earth without passion..... write that down.

Hello and welcome fans and readers, for TSN I am hockey insider Bob McKenzie.

Today I would like to take some time to analyze the moves Toronto have made up to today, with pre season starting tomorrow the Leafs will have multiple avenues in which to peruse their return to playoff hockey.

Last season was considered by most a major, and long overdue success for Toronto, as promised Brian Burke aggressively perused ways to make his club more competitive and that paid off with a conference finals appearance.

not long after Toronto was ousted by the soon to be Stanley Cup champs, the Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto management came to a new five year deal with GM Brian Burke. While Burkes road to success was a little longer then anyone wanted, he came in and made this club better and better each year under his guidance, all the while restocking the minors with talent, drafting smartly and trading for talent to help propel this club forward.

Burke immediately signed Head Coach Doug Gilmour to a three year extension. Gilmour struggled his first year as head coach at the NHL level but really turned a corner last season, showing a greatly improved vision for on ice ebbs and flows and also how to curve his clubs trends and attitudes.

With draft day opening the Leafs weren’t exactly in the best drafting position, having made it so far into the playoffs it put them at the bottom of the pecking order and not having a pick until the third round left the Leafs sitting and watching for the beginning segments of the draft. Once the third round began, here is who Toronto went after.

The feeling from Toronto all throughout draft day was, look to the future and sit on what we have got. With free agency just around the corner and multiple big ticket players to resign I cant say I blame Brian for wanting to see how the contract status of Paul Gaustad, Mike Ribeiro, Phil Kessel, Kyle Turris, Theo Peckham, Joe Colborne, Jake Gardiner and Kurtis Foster play out before trades were made.

After making the conference finals it would be hard to see players wanting out of Toronto at this point, especially after which some have spent many years here trying to get to this point.

With having most of the core team locked up, Toronto heads into free agency with roughly 14 million in cap space and the ability to chase big ticket free agents if Burke so chooses to.
Free agency:
Heading into free agency the word around the league was the Montreal Canadiens and Max Pacioretty would not be able to come to an agreement and as a result the Canadiens were seeking a trade, they were looking for big bodies to help fill the gaps on the smaller team and playoff experience would be a bonus, it didn’t take Burke long to swoop in and get a deal done .

Here we see Burke refilling the Marlies with depth and potential talent, after having a successful season last year as well the Marlies will be looking for a return to a playoffs of their own and this new group of depth and talent should help them move in the right direction.

D Dan Boyle (OFD) 38 years old 3.3M 1 year deal 84 overall D-/D/D- potential
Being 38 years old it is no doubt that Boyle is in the twilight of his career, but there is also no doubt that he can still effectively move the puck up the ice and man the point on a power play, while Boyle may not be able to handle first line time, look for him to be a solid addition to a second or third line role in a deep Leafs squad.

G Al Montoya (HYB) 29 years old 1M 1 year deal 81 overall C/C/C potential
While Montoya enters as the undisputed back up behind Bobrovsky and is an upgrade of last years back up in Chris Mason, this move makes it clear that again Bobrovsky will have to shoulder the majority of the workload this season, and while he seemed to do so well last year, could fatigue contribute to the Leafs loss to Carolina in the playoffs?

D Sheldon Brookbank (TGH) 33 years old 1.2M 1 year deal 82 overall C-/C-/C- potential
This is a pure depth move, to give Toronto a tough guy when they need one. Largely dependent on the play of Toronto’s other D men will tell how much game time and ice time Brookbank will see.
C Anthony Stewart (PWF) 29 years old 1.4M 1 year deal 82 overall C/C/C potential
Stewart will be the ace in the pocket as it were, a big body capable of getting into those hard areas, he may see time on the wing here in Toronto as the center position is a deep one, but with the ability to play centre Stewarts role may shift, injury depending.

D Andrei Markov (OFD) 35 years old 4.9M 1 year deal 87 overall C-/C-/C- potential
Like Boyle, Markov is also entering the twilight of his career while still boasting strong puck moving and power play potential, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to foresee Markov playing on Toronto’s top units to add the veteran experience and leadership to a still very young Toronto team.

It wasn’t long after the Markov signing that Burke held a press conference detailing the signing of forward Max Pacioretty who was acquired earlier via trade with Montreal.
Pacioretty signed a 3 year deal worth 4M per season and 12M total.
With the additions made, and the pieces already here in Toronto, combined with the success of last season I would venture to guess that anything less than a return to the conference finals would be seen as an utter failure on all sides.
