Game Notes | With two games left in the regular season, and the Big Game against a resurgent Cal team next week, Stanford is anxious to get back onto their home field and rid themselves of the demons that plagued them on the road all season. To that end, 3-6 Oregon State may be in for a very long evening in Palo Alto, especially with the Cardinal planning on breaking out an all-black look with their uniforms, and several very prominent recruits planning on being in attendance.
Senior Ryan Katz has struggled at QB for the Beavers, with only 13 touchdowns to 8 interceptions and a completion percentage below 50. To make matters worse, star wideout Markus Wheaton has missed most of the season with a back injury, and will not be available against Stanford, either. In his stead, senior Jordan Bishop leads the team with 42 receptions and 626 yards. Tight end Colby Prince is a big, reliable target, and leads OSU with four touchdown catches. Their running game is skittish at best, however. Jordan Jenkins leads the way with 577 yards, but only 4.2 yards a carry. True freshman Dwayne Rankin is second on the team with 408 yards rushing, and leads the team with a paltry three rushing touchdowns.
Defensively, the Beavers are traditionally well-coached and very disciplined, even if they aren't the most talented bunch. They have an impressive linebacking corps of Shaydon Akuna (73 tackles, 1.5 sacks), Feti Unga (55 tackles), and Rueben Robinson (55 tackles, 3.5 sacks), and cornerback Jordan Poyer is an all-Pac 12 candidate, leading the Beavers with four interceptions. OSU starts four seniors on the defensive line, led by end Rudolf Fifita. Taylor Henry is dependable at the other end, and Castro Masaniai and Andrew Seumalo are enormous on the inside, weighing in at 336 and 285 pounds, respectively. |
