Gaffney Leads Blackout of Beavers
Stanford running game doesn't miss a beat without WilkersonOn the first play from scrimmage, Oregon State's Jordan Jenkins ran right through a Stanford blitz and jogged 80 yards for a touchdown. He would do the same thing in the second quarter, and in the third quarter, Stanford QB Brett Nottingham threw three interceptions, one of which was taken back for a score.
All of the above added up to a much closer game than was expected, but Tyler Gaffney filled in flawlessly for Anthony Wilkerson, grinding Oregon State down to the tune of 212 yards and two scores as Stanford won their seventh game of the season, 34-24.
"This was one of the weirder games we've had here," coach Brian Kudron said. "We had the ball basically all game, our running game was top notch, and yet two busted plays on defense and one dreadful quarter where we turned the ball over, and the game was a nail biter."
When asked about Wilkerson's status for the Big Game against Cal next week, the Stanford coach was non-committal.
