I've already made two posts explaining how I feel, and you completely ignore the principle. It would be nice if you'd actually listen to my point of view instead of telling me what it is and isn't.

    Thanks.

I'm not ignoring the principle. What I'm saying is if you are such a principled person and this is such a significant issue, I expect that you won't purchase the game or if you do, I expect that you won't "like" the page so you can get Overeem.

      Thanks.

Re: UFC Undisputed 3 Video - How to Unlock Alistair Overeem

If I was so disgusted by the simple click of a Facebook page, then I certainly wouldn't want to "advertise" (if you even want to call it that) for the company that was selling the product; much less support them by purchasing it.

I guess some people are a little looser with their principals than me. I wouldn't go so far as to call the hypocrites, nah yeah I would. Stand your ground if you really believe in something. Go out there and make a difference with your wallet and maybe you won't have to "like" a Facebook page for the next iteration. All I can say is good luck with that.

I respond in kind. Take the red off of my name and I would still give you the same response. I've been here over a decade and the tone of my posts is always the same whether I was an admin or not..

If you want to disagree with me fine..lets have a debate. If you want to give smartass responses, I'll respond with one too. As long as neither of us cross the line and violate the TOS, I have no issue with it.

If they asked you to do more than that I could understand the complaint. I completely understand and agree with the complaints about the Gamestop fighters. But for Overeem, they are asking you like 1 page...thats it.

If you are apprehensive about the future....dont do it now. Its the same thing I say about DLC. People complained about DLC with the WWE series but still purchased it. No matter what you say or how much you complain, if THQ is making hundreds of thousands from DLC and gets millions of likes because of Overeem....they are going to do it every year.

Also your financial analysis of the marketing doesn't work at all. I don't think ANYONE would argue that the value of liking a page and having it appear on your timeline once is worth 5 dollars (or even 1 dollar) per person. Also I seriously doubt that we will see less advertising for this game because of social media. If anything I've seen more videos, Q&As, interviews and web trailers than any previous version. I can also guarantee that we will see as many TV commercials as we have for THQ's other fighting game, WWE 12.

Anyway, I'll agree to disagree. Its just a huge pet peeve of mine to hear people say "Im so enraged the THQ would make me like a FB page but I'm still gonna do it"
My 'suggestions' or examples weren't necessarily meant to be taken that literally. In fact, would I would rather do is discuss what we as consumers should find to be permissible.

As I said I'll most likely do the facebook thing to get overeem in the game so that I can beat him sensless

But where could/should the line be drawn? That's really at the heart of the issue. I'm not sure, and I think it's clear that nobody else is either. I agree that this is not a big deal for UFC3, but I do somehow still think it's slightly 'wrong' for lack of a better word.

So what I'm wondering is what it will take for me personally and all of you to reject doing something 'extra' to unlock in-game content - AND what is the extent companies will go in the near future and beyond in terms of things like this...

Did they feel it necessary to have the customer engage in this social media to 'Justify' the inclusion of overeem free of charge? In other words, having us do this is worth something to them. At the same time, they have removed fighters from the game too, which is worth mentioning.

What's lost in this imo is that it's so easy to click like on FB, but we are all effectively saying to everyone on our friends like 'hey I like UFC 3' ... which isn't very different than verbally telling them in person.

Above, I'm not sure, but I think someone scoffed at the notion that this is advertising, but it totally is. Didn't the last game sell 2million copies?
If that's the case - let's say 1/2 do the 'like' thing, and let's be modest and say they all have 200 friends on FB. Weed out the people that miss it on their list, ignore it or whatever, we're still talking about an insane number of people who see the 'likes' - To me that is essentially a massive amount of free advertising no?

So again, right NOW it's not a big deal YET, but it is getting a bit personal and taking us closer and closer to "the line"....wherever that might be... Maybe they will never demand more than that in future titles, but maybe they will --- I don't know because I'm not in marketing and really don't know if these companies even discuss this type of thing right now.

I can think of something I wouldn't do as an example, I wouldn't send a mass text to everyone on my address book saying 'check out UFC 3' even if it was for 15 fighters and that would cause me to potentially not buy the game at all out of disgust. So I'm not sure about you guys - but is it even possible to agree on what 'the line' is not to be crossed? Philosophically it's extremely difficult to differentiate the 2 which makes it even harder - so that's why I think it's worth thinking about and having some discussion about it. When is it TOO intrusive?

Re: UFC Undisputed 3 Video - How to Unlock Alistair Overeem

LOL. I'll take this one section by section:

I think the FB thing is right at the line. If THQ asked me to email friends or even tweet something to get a fighter, I probably would balk at it. The reason why I have no problem with this is because it takes one button click. Overeem will probably be paid DLC for people who refuse to do the FB thing. So for me its a choice of pay for DLC or do this and get it for free.

I disagree that "liking" UFC3 is the same or similar to telling each one of my 300 FB friends that I like the game. Ive been on FB for years and I've can't remember ever even noticing one of my friends likes. I think the large majority of people don't even pay attention to that stuff.

The last game sold a little under a million. I don't think anyone would argue that its not free advertising. What I would argue is that it isn't valuable free advertising. For example, I'm a UFC fan. So if I see a friend of mine liked UFC3 I'm likely to check out the FB page. But more likely than not, if I'm a UFC fan I already know about the game so its useless advertising to me.

I would rather them do the FB thing than the Gamestop deal and force me to shop there if I want those fighters.

I think you need to let this go. If you want to talk about your argument, thats fine. But I'm not gonna have a pissing contest with you. Lets move on for your sake.

I did it last night, took like 2 minutes, and I'm sure I could have used those 2 minutes in a more productive manner.

                        /sarcasm

Seriously, though, that's all it took. Yeah it may have shown on everyone's page. It's not like it said "If you don't like this too, your page will be deactivated". And as far as that being spamming, I suppose that means every time you update your status you're spamming all your friends because it shows up on everyone's page, too.

Some people will complain just about anything.

Whooaaa Hold up! I can't believe some of the comments in here.

First: I don't have a facebook, and don't like the whole social networking idea. I feel privacy is lost to a degree and don't want to participate in it. Now that is another topic entirely.

Now as far as how this pertains to me for UFC 3. I am not going "create a fake facebook" or anything else to that degree. I am paying for the game and would hope I get the same fighters as someone else.

I can understand pre-order fighters to a certain extent. While I don't agree with it entirely I can understand it a little more.

Now me not being able to have Overeem because I won't jump through some social networking hoops is just screwed up. You can talk it up as "its no big deal, only takes 2 seconds". The bottom line is not everyone has facebook and don't like it. So having them "create fake accounts" or whatever else just to get a fighter you would like to have on your roster set is WRONG.....period. I see no way to challenge that.

I'm not a fan of these so called extras, which aren't extras, its locked content on the disc. But some people are going to major extremes about it. I don't blame THQ for this one though. Their logic is if this person likes MMA and video games, they are bound to have some friends that do as well. What better way to reach those people than through Facebook? It's not a bad marketing ploy, and they at least try to make you think they are giving you something for helping them out with this.

While it's really annoying (I agree with all of you), I'd rather the devs do this compared to preorder exclusives. If it's a preorder exclusive per system or store, then there are fighters I'd never get (or have to pay too much for later).

With the Facebook or Twitter things, it's annoying for sure, but free....You can always unlike them after you get Overeem in game...

I cant believe that someone would "understand" THQ forcing people to purchase a game through Gamestop in order to get fighters in the game but considers creating a fake (or real) FB page "wrong."

Also, when you and I purchase the game we will both have the same fighters. The difference is I'm willing to do something that takes two minutes to get an extra fighter so when I take the game home, I will have Overeem and you wont. Its that simple to me.
