Game Notes | The Beavers are stuck in a perennial rut now, as Stanford, Oregon, Washington and Cal have risen to the top of the Pac-12 North, and the additions of BYU and Boise State have added to Oregon State's struggles. The Beavers are never among the most talented teams in the conference, and instead depend on outworking and outsmarting their opponents - a strategy that is doomed to fail against Stanford.
Fifth year senior quarterback Sean Mannion has mediocre numbers for OSU this season: 1708 yards passing, with only 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Junior running back Dwayne Rankin is a powerful ball carrier with 787 yards and 5.4 yards per carry, but he has only three touchdowns on the season. Senior wideout Brandin Cooks is only 5'9 and a generous 174 pounds, but he is elusive and dangerous; he leads OSU in receptions (41), yards (602), and touchdown catches (8).
Defensively, senior linebacker Shaydon Akuna is the Pac-12's leading tackler with 82 stops, and the Beavers have a dynamic pass rushing duo on their defensive line in senior end Scott Crichton (20 TFL, 8.5 sacks) and junior defensive tackle (and former Stanford target) Stephen Jackson (16 TFL, 7.5 sacks). Akuna also leads the Beavers with three interceptions and two forced fumbles. |
