Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

Missouri executes Kansas's BCS Title Chances 53-10

Say what you will about the Big XII, but the last few years it has always provided a legit BCS Title threat, and it's won the last two national championships.

Now, provided the entire system doesn't crash, that streak is in jeopardy. The 8th ranked Tigers from Missouri hosted the #2 Kansas Jayhawks in the late afternoon showdown. Going in Kansas knew #1 Ohio State and #3 Georgia Tech had both fallen, and they needed to be prepared. Also, they knew if they could beat Missouri and then win the Big XII Championship they were going to the BCS Title game for sure.

The game started off as a typical battle between two behemoths does, a slow feeling out period. Kansas's passing attack was negated by the snow on the ground, as Cummings slipped twice in the first quarter. The Tigers did what they do best, running the ball down the throat of the Jayhawks and relying on M. Coleman to nail a pair of field goals from 30 and 42 yards respectively to gain a 6-0 lead.

A. Pierson got the Jayhawks onto the scoreboard with a 10 yard run at the end of the first, making it 7-6 Jayhawks after one stanza.
After 1 quarter
#2 Kansas (11-0) 7
#8 Missouri (10-1) 6

Missouri, mad that once again their shutout was taken away from them, rallied the troops. The offense scored on a 3 yard run by Harrell, and then K. Hall came up with a huge interception in the endzone to prevent Kansas from tying the game at 13 all.

K. Hall intercepted Cummings to prevent a Jayhawk touchdown

On the very next play A. Harrell wiped David Steele's name from the record book for the longest run ever, going 96 yards, coast to coast, to make it 20-7 Tigers.

Steele who? Harrell gets his name in the record book.

Missouri added a sweet 1 yard pass to J. Ross from Bailey after Bailey slipped on the snow, and a field goal later the Tigers held a nice 29-7 lead at halftime.

Halftime
#2 Kansas (11-0) 7
#8 Missouri (10-1) 29

The Jayhawk defense held for the third period, but the Tigers did also, and the Jayhawks only managed to close by a field goal.

After 3 Quarters
#2 Kansas (11-0) 10
#8 Missouri (10-1) 29

Missouri went crazy in the fourth quarter, picking off Cummings on 4 straight plays. Cummings would finish with 7 total interceptions and he was also sacked 3 times. Missouri capitalized big time and ran up the score, giving the Jayhawks a big old fashioned beatdown.

Final Score
#2 Kansas (11-0) 10
#8 Missouri (10-1) 53

Cummings nearly doubled his INT for the season, going from 8 to 15 in this game

Missouri now hopes that with a win in the Big XII title game they can leapfrog into the BCS Title game. There is a lot more hope now then there was a few weeks ago after the loss to Arkansas.

Missouri POTG
Nick Bailey was 17 of 33 for 237 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, sacked once, and had 7 carries for 12 yards

A. Harrell had 30 carries for 193 yards, 3 TD, and 1 fumble

M. Smith had 6 catches for 99 yards
M. Moore had 5 catches for 96 yards

D. Washington had 5 tackles and 2 INT
L Walters had 4 tackles and 2 INT
