What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....

And would be good with some refinement(better overall testing)?

    1. I like the idea of the tendencies and the sliders for them. I just wish they were more responsive and not placebos to make us think they were doing more than they actual were.

    2. The Fight Camps was a good idea, but? but?

    3. Giving us 100 CABs was a great idea, but it was only a idea and empty promise.

    4. The punch from the block should have been a move for boxers who actually use this style of boxing. It was kind of pushed on every boxer if you used the one button block. Boxers styles, tendencies, abilities, and traits should be what makes him, him.

    5. Amateur fights in career mode was done better than before but needs more depth added on to it to make turning pro carry more weight.

I liked the release day gameplay quite a bit. Connect % was a little high as was punch output, but it still had strategy. They really fouled the game up with their patches and tuners.

All they really needed to do was fix the imprted boxers in legacy mode. They actually need to totally revamp the career mode, but given I knew they weren't going to do that, if they would have just fixed that freezing glitch, I would have been a satisfied customer.

LOL, it does have A LOT of problems. But if i had to try to pick one nice thing, i'd say the graphics. I love the blur effect.

          • the graphics are great.
          • i like the "stick" total control...it's more immersive.

This may not make sense, but with all of the patches, tuners, etc... this game is in my opinion a C-, but it's closer to an A than F or even a D. I can't seem to sell it back. When I need my boxing fix, I pop it in and it definitely gets me my fix, but at the same time I feel like I'm torturing myself because I know I'll be annoyed with the games many faults. I don't know... Love/Hate relationship at its finest IMHO. And it doesn't help that there hasn't been that much HBO boxing on lately.

This is a post from one of the Producers of the Fight Night Team Brian"Brizzo"Hayes.

When he says that this is "Producer-Approved", that does not mean that it is in any way indicative of what our current or future plans are for the franchise. It just means he asked us if it was okay to do this type of thing and we said it was. Beyond that, I said it would be more insightful for everyone if he found a way to ask users what was most important to them... as opposed to just having a survey where users were able to answer that they just want everything.

            Cheers.

They wants to know the top 20, top 10 and top 5 things fans want.

They want to see what is important to the fans. They really trying to see what the fans want.

I posted this a few months ago on various sites both boxing and gaming.

*The belief by some is that the survey can be altered to fit what I want but that is farthest from the true than it is. I'm all for letting the fans get what they want. I'm just a huge options guy.

              LIKES:

-- Graphics. Gorgeous. Among the very best of ANY sports game of this generation. The animations could be a bit smoother, though.

-- Champion mode. I liked the entire story concept. Fun, gets you emotionally involved with your fighter.

-- Slider settings. A good idea with horrible implementation.

              DISLIKES:

-- Button and stick responsiveness. There's still far too much of a delay between button or stick input and the desired action occurring on screen. Makes it very tough to judge the proper time to throw certain punches and combinations. Namco had ZERO lag from button response with Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast's launch in 1999; why the hell can't EA do the same with its boxing game 12 years later?

-- Slider settings. Cries of "the sliders are BROKEN!" in Game X or Y are among the biggest cliches and fallacies in sports gaming. But the sliders are broken on FNC. Most have little or no effect.

Pretty much how I feel as well. The button delays really killed this for me as I could never capitalize on openings the way I could have in real life.

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....

This is tough because there is so many things broken with FNC that its hard to appreciate what they did ok

-Speed of Combat....Compared to other Fight Nights the punches flew nicely
*Blocking System..This kind of goes hand in hand....Was it perfect?? no....but The Devs should continue to focus on keeping the ebb and flow of Offense into Defense(and Vice Versa) smooth, allowing the user to fight his opponent more then the controls

-When it has been working, the facial damage system(Though for the love of God, Relentless stiff(High Rated) jabs should cause some swelling)

-Online Gyms(Though once again, tons of broken features and promises with this) Thats right Brizzo, Im still mad you guys lied to us about Custom Gym Sliders!

                  -Tendencies/New Meaningful Ratings

-Boxer Creation could be labeled as decent had things worked correctly and weren't broken........However in a new Fight Night its time to go the next level....I could go on forever about this , so the overview would be
*Custom Trunks/Logo editor see UFC/Forza(For me this is my biggest want in player creation)
*Should be able to create a face like Skyrim/Mass Effect with Sliders alone
                  *Add More Hair Styles
*Fix PhotoGame Faces on a black Player Model
*Need more styles of gear, Roy needs his sleevless robe style

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....

I never got past the demo to be honest, and there were maybe three things I liked!

1 - Boxer and punch speed. I don't know if there were sliders to tweak these two things in the retail version, but I may have turned it up smidgen...

2 - The lighting. The whole arena looked realistic because of this, including fighters...

The one (there are more, trust me there are many more) MAJOR dislike/hate?

The ****in' control scheme they introduced. Nothing about it is innovative and it's very flawed.

                    Why is it flawed?

I've said it so many times, and i'll say it again! The controllers weren't made for their control scheme. Trying to squeeze in 12 different punches on one stick was never going to work properly for everyone to fully appreciate.

Hookacut? Really, I want to be able to control every movement from the lean to get the angle to throwing - or not throwing - the punch. What about just throwing from different angles as a counter? This is where, in my opinion, FNR4 will always come up trumps.

Every movement to avoid in-coming punches was an opportunity to counter. And i'm not talking about spamming the bob-n-weave! I mean leaning and throwing from that position. Try that on FNC and he'll reset to a standing position...

Anyway, I got a little off track but yeah....
...we held several meetings to discuss the future of the franchise. After going through those meetings, it became very clear that the vision I had for the game was different from where the leadership wanted to take it. I parted ways with EA shortly after...

Re: What did you like about Fight Night Champion.....

Overall I enjoyed FNC very much, I mean no matter what I say it play in Ps3 on the reg, but that doesn't mean that I had concerns for the game. I think allot players didn't give the game enough cred, but on the same token there are issues. I hated OWC, simply because players have the option of maxN out their fighter with unbelievable reaches and unbelievable height I feel it gave the game a cheesy WWF look. I mean maybe they did that on purpose for the players who are not good at the game, so they made it more video game style jus so they can attract the novice boxing fan. H2H seems to be more of the realistic spectrum of the game and OWC the arcade half of it. I played both throughly. I would get rid of the side step spam completely , only because it a total spam and players abuse it, and by getting rid of it, it would create more of realistic sim like play. But I think they wont because even they know it's a blatant spam, they want novice boxing plaers to have a chance in winning at the game. overall I think game was a 9. a improved roster for h2h would be great and getting rid of some spaming issues would take the game over the top

I opted not to be in the the Game Changer program. It seems like those guys accept anything EA puts out. I like being outspoken and telling the producers what I don't like without feeling obligated.

I even gave my Senior Moderator job up on the Fight Night forums so I didn't have to be silent and act like the game didn't have mistakes. The Fight Night producers respect me for this and let me still have contact with them.

Poetic wasn't banned or asked in any way to stop contributing to this community. People are acting like Poe got fired from a paying job and we're taking food out of his mouth. That isn't the case.

Similar to a policy debate, a forum moderator is supposed to be a relatively neutral 3rd party that keeps things on track and lets all sides have their say. There is nothing wrong with being opinionated, it just means you're better suited for the debate team and not to be the moderator.

He's more than welcome here and I hope to see him back soon. His current absence is totally self-enforced.

Fatigue is completely jacked up. If I'm fighting a guy online who throws 900 power punches through 10 rounds (by power punches, i mean 95% straights, hooks, and uppercuts), misses 70% of them, and I'M the one who's gassed after 5 rounds after using effective boxing, something is very wrong. I don't care if he's Sugar Ray Robinson lol!

Make angles and footwork matter much more. That way there will be a realistic number of missed punches without forcing us to randomly miss WIDE open punches.

I'm also with you about wanting MUCH more and MUCH BETTER customization options.
