Stanford pulverizes the Wolf Pack
Defense shows what it's made of in 2015 home openerAfter last week's season opener, Stanford coach Brian Kudron highlighted two issues his team had to take care of: giving up the big play on defense, and avoiding unnecessary sacks on offense.
The Cardinal corrected one of those problems superbly against Nevada, smothering the Wolf Pack's offense to the tune of a 51-0 shutout in the 2015 home opener on The Farm.
Quarterback Shane Williams still took a couple sacks that normally should be avoided, but overall Kudron was pleased with the progression of his young signal caller - and his team as a whole.
"I thought we took a step forward today," he said. "We identified a few issues from the first game, and I thought we did a good job improving on them for the second. And really, that's what it always boils down to in this sport. You want to improve a little bit each week in every phase of the game, but especially in areas you put extra emphasis on. Our defense responded well to the challenge our coaches put on them this week in practice, and Shane made progress too. In Shane's case in particular, he's still a young quarterback, so the process is still in its infancy, but we have all the faith in the world in him, because we see how dedicated he is and how much hard work he puts into this every single day."
