Top 12 in '12 -- Best Perimeter Defenders

One of the most valuable things to have on your NBA 2K12 squad is a defensive stopper, someone who can guard the opposing team’s best player in crunch time. Using a combination of Defensive Awareness, On Ball Defense, and Steal or Block, I’ve attempted to rate the top perimeter defenders in NBA 2K12. While the formula is probably a little flawed, it sums the defensive awareness, on ball defense and a player’s steal or block rating, whichever is higher, to create a final number. Here is the list. It includes guards and small forwards only.

Best on ball defender is without a doubt Tony Allen. Then there's Iggy, Lebron, Wade, Affalo, Kobe (still doin it), Deng, Brewer, Hinrich, etc.

Dude is gonna be an all defensive 1st teamer throughout his career as long as his offense lets him play at least 25 minutes a game. Maybe he can develop his 3 point shot and he's set.

CP3 as a good defender LOLZ; steals don't mean you are a good defender.

Paul gets lit by virtually every pg he faces, he is NOT a good on-ball defender but much like john stockton he is an elite off ball passing lanes theif

there is a difference and the two are nowhere near the same thing; Kyle Lowry, now THERE is a good perimeter defender

Agreed on Paul. You could categorize a lot of guys into that category of overrated on ball defenders because they get steals. IMO it's like cornerbacks in the NFL. Take D Hall for example. He's horrid at coverage but he gets INT's so he gets Pro Bowls etc. (DUMB).

He has 83 on ball D. He isn't that great on ball to be second perimeter defender, but sum of those ratings make him that.

These ratings only tell part of the story. Playing against the heat I would say Wade is underated. There are hidden ratings that apply to different teams and he is one of the only guards I consistently see blocking shots on the perimeter or in the paint. Steals are usually a good indicator of active hands and the ability to play passing lanes combined with high awareness. My top pick would be Tony Allen dude is just versatile on the defensive end.

Wesley Matthews is a damn good on ball defender

Gerald Wallace is a good on ball defender, he's also fantastic at playing the passing lanes and an underrated shot blocker.

Nicolas Batum is very similar to Gerald Wallace defensively, both are very good at trailing someone on a break and blocking shots.

Too Bad I have to edit my rosters to give Luol Deng his due on defense in this game. He's probably the the 2nd best perimeter SF defenders in the game after LeBron. He's better than Ronnie at defense. trust me I see the games....
