2012 Transactions Thread
First big move I've seen, Raiders cut Stanford Routt, one year after he was signed to a 5 yr $54 mil deal.

Whoa. Did he have a bad year or something? I'm hoping Dunta Robinson is next.

Routt befitted from Al Davis, being Al Davis(RIP). As far as a bad season not, really. QB's completed about 47% of their throws against him, but he was penalized a lot and gave up 8 TDs this year.Moderator

It's also Dennis Allen trying to get his guys, he was the secondary coach in NO not long ago I'd look for them to try to sign Tracy Porter.

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
He had a ridiculous contract, McKenzie said in so many words that he's ending all the free rides and bad deals that Al Davis has given over the last decade and people with "out of wack" contracts are gone. PFT speculates that Wimbley, Huff, Kelly and Curry could all be cut too.
Routt's deal last year included $20m guaranteed and there's no waiver process so nobody has to pick up his contract and he gets a check for the $20m he hadn't been paid (Raiders also have to eat a large portion of it as a cap penalty this year too). He's already scheduled visits with the Bills and Titans. The Chiefs and Vikings have reached out to his agent.
With so few draft picks (2 in rds 5 and 6 + a couple compensatories yet to be awarded) they can't rebuild cheaply through the draft either, so they'll have to replenish through free agency which is inherently more expensive.
There's no other word for this other than rebuilding. Painful and overdue.Comment

The stats don't reflect how Routt was abused regularly and always seemed to be penalized at key moments. He wasn't a #1 corner, solid #2 at best.Comment

Folks are linking Mario Manningham to the Bears and Browns. Those teams need bigger receivers imo.
I see Manningham to Arizona or Carolina.Comment

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
Manningham isn't a number 1 WR. He is better off going to Arizona and benefiting from the double teams that Fitz will get. He will be the #1 in Chicago or Cleveland, and despite his awesome catch in the Super Bowl he is to inconsistent to be a #1 with out a QB like Eli(te) throwing to him.Moderator

I think we have a strong chance to get either Tracey Porter since Gregg williams was his Defensive coordinator or Cortland Finnegan Who was coached by Jeff fisherU.S ARMY

Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
Most definitely agree. He isnt a number one. He can play as a two and thrive. But as a one drawing double teams, I dont know if he can do it. Hes very small and quick. Two corners on him and hes out of the game. And his hands randomly vanish at the worst times. I hope he goes to Carolina as a supplement to Steve Smith. He could thrive there with defenses not being able to commit two guys to one when Cam is running all over the place. Arizona he would do well with Fitzgerald as well.Manningham isn't a number 1 WR. I'll miss him though. He is a tough guy who is the furthest thing from a distraction at his position.Comment

I really want the Falcons to cut Robinson an Edwards. Two worthless FA signings. Who are the top DEs an CBs available? We have to go at FAs because we gave up our 2012 draft for Julio who has proven to be worth it so far. As ling as the contracts are reasonable.

I don't know if the Falcons can really focus on finding upgrades in free agency. They have a ton of notable free agents to resign. I can imagine some of these guys demanding monster contracts as well.I really want the Falcons to cut Robinson an Edwards. Two worthless FA signings. Who are the top DEs an CBs available? Re: 2012 Free Agency/Offseason Movement Thread
Manningham is just a touch below what it takes to be a #1 WR in the league. His route running is inconsistent and he has trouble hanging onto the ball at times. I think he benefited greatly from having Hakeem Nicks and the emergence of Victor Cruz on the field with him. It gave him a chance to find the open spots on the field to get the ball. He would struggle and some of the flaws in his game would show up in spades if he went on to be a #1 receiver with the Bears or Browns. He needs to be somewhere where he can benefit from teams planning against the #1 guy.
I just don't see Manningham as being the kind of guy who can create space for himself and getting the ball in tough situations. he's essentially an Alvin Harper of this generation. He's the kind of guy where you see the athletic ability and think "if given a chance to be a #1 he'd be great" but the folks that think this way overlook the flaws in his game.
If he's smart he'll go to Arizona.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I'd link Finnegan to the Lions too, we need a number 1 CB badly and Schwartz was his coach.
Lions should resign Cliff Avril and begin looking at Calvin Johnson long term (I think he's a rfa or in his last year of his deal in 2012).Comment
