Knicks Singing JR Smith , are they contenders?

With Jeremy Lin emerging as a very solid PG, and putting togehter a 7 game win streak.

Soon the Knicks will have Melo back, and that will make the Knicks very dangerous.

I just read that JR smith will be joining the Knicks, and he willl start this Sunday against the Mavericks.

To me this makes the Knicks pretty damn Scary. I'm a huge Knicks fan, and have been suffering for years now. I can't believe how quickly things are changing, and Lin has a huge roll with the transformation.

Adding a SG like JR Smith who plays with a lot of fire and attitude. He can score and run the floor well.

Do you think this addition will make the Knicks a legit contender?

Another chucker makes the Knicks scary? I see a team of me-types with no serious chance of contending unless they somehow break out of the molds that have plaqued their individual careers (Melo, Amare, JR) and play as one-team and commit on the defensive end.

I think they played fundamentally better basketball with Jeffries, Novak, Landry, Lin, and Chandler.

Since when does signing JR Smith turn a team into a "scary" team?

Didn't the heat bring in ball dominant Lebron to play with ball dominant Wade, with Bosh taking his fair share of shots in Toronto? It is possible for players to get over themselves and play as a team. Let's just wait and see instead of jumping to the negative.

The Knicks have already played much better on the defensive end. Watch the games and check the defensive numbers. This is no longer a bad defensive team.

JR smith makes a team scary because he is an outside shooter added to Melo, STAT, Chandler and now Lin. Not to mention Novak as 3 specialist, Shumpert playing some of the best D I have ever seen from a rook, Fields ballin/filling the stat sheet. Oh and Baron Davis may be able to give you PG punch off the bench.

The Knicks playing at there highest potential + healthy...very scary. The question is not whether they have the potential to be scary. The question is will they reach that potential. They have just as good a chance of reaching that potential as they have to fail. Melo is not going to come back after the start of Linsanity and destroy this good thing that is going. The fans would destroy him. He needs to play within the system to return to golden child status and he knows that.

Re: Knicks Singing JR Smith , are they contenders?

what alot of people fail to realize is the reason for all the isolation this season was due to no PG, Dantoni ran nothing but Isolation for Melo and Amare. Ever since Lin came in isolation has been minimized. Melo is averaging 4 assist a game. He will fit in with Lin, he played well with Billups and Andre Miller, hell even AI averaged 7 assist a game with Melo.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

No, this team isnt at the level defensivley that CHI, MIA, or even PHI and Boston are. They should get out of round 1 but I dont see them beating either of the top two teams in a series.

I believe that statistically they're one of the better defensive teams in the league.

In the end, I dont see them being able to sustain (or even match really) the kind of high level defense that they would have to play in order match the intensity that CHI and MIA will bring into the playoffs. Playing D well and having a defensive identity arent the same thing. They'll have to the latter mindset to beat those two teams.

In the playoffs coaches need to make defensive adjustments, should I add more?

Bibby makes the most sense. They guaranteed Toney through next season already, wouldn't make sense to drop him. I think Balkman makes more money than Bibby too.

This just seems like an unecessary move. Can Amare, Melo, and Smith all coexist together? I feel like there's too many 1 on 1 scorers on this team. Yea if they distribute the ball evenly, and pick it up defensively, they're scary. But in reality I think it just messes up the flow of play they have right now. Someone's gonna have to go. Lin really is gonna have to step it up another notch and decide how he's gonna flow with all these players. Because he's getting a completely different look overnight, and I'm not sure it's positive.

Personally, I think Smith should of signed with the Clippers, they could use a guy like him off the bench.
