Which one - NHL 10, 11, or 12?

Looking to pick up one of these for my new XBox360. Which one is the most realistic simulation of the game?

I see NHL 10 mentioned a fair bit (more than the other 2) in the 2nd greatest sports game thread. Is this version better than '11 or '12?

I prefer nhl 12 over the last 2 years games. The only thing in 12 that bothers me offline is the lack of penalties being called. I dont play 12 online at all where in 11 that was the main mode i played.

Loved NHL 09 skipped 10.

Picked up NHL 11 used last year and am still playing it. I think it is great. Board play is awesome. Faces offs are good. YOu have to work to score. To me if your a casual hockey fan like myself you will love it.

NHL 11 if you're not an online guy and don't doing a bit of manual roster updating.

Loved NHL 09 skipped 10.

I could've written this myself. Word for word, it's my thinking as well.

Not to mention that on PS3, 12 has many freezing issues.

...this seems to be the case. A bad year indeed for EA then, wouldn't ya say? LOL.

I am curious as to why some are passionate about NHL '10 - why nominate this title as being one of the best sports games ever? - I am completely naive to the recent hockey releases.

That's about it, lol...bad year.

I enjoyed 10 as well; but I prefer 11 because as mentioned, boardplay, faceoffs, etc. are better.

NHL 10 was good, but NHL 11 after all the patches and tuners was the better game. Large in part due to the Pass Reception Slider that worked nicely.

See.. if it were me.. I'd have get 2012.. my OCD wouldnt allow me to play a video game that doesnt have up-to-date rosters let alone up-to-date teams.

If you could get them for the same price, might as well get NHL12.

If not, then go and get NHL11.

EB games has NHL12 used for $45 while they have NHL11 $30 new and $15 used. So just get NHL11 if that's where you're gonna get it from.

Everybody plays differently - I like my own BeAGM universe, so it makes no difference to me.

As to which version of NHL, it depends on money you want to spend and the system you are using. To me, if money is a big issue, then going with NHL 10 is fine. I do love that game (even still). If you are using a PS3, stay away from 12 (it appears anyway - from looking at the freezing issues reported). Personally, I did not think 11 was much (if any) better than 10, and same for 12 (barely better than 11). So, if money is not a big deal, and you have a 360, then you may want to go with 12. If you have a PS3, but want the newest stable version, then it looks like 11. If you want a great game and a good deal, go with 10.

For me, 12 is the one I've played most (and still do). I tried a whole bunch of sliders and always ended up disappointed. Now I get pretty good games on Superstar Normal. The only change I've made is to max out penalty sliders. Sure the penalties are still on the low side but this is the most balanced the game has been for me. Most games are tight.

The last one I played nearly as much was 09. 10 and 11 annoyed me because the CPU refused to take shots. The only way i could get tight games was by having the CPU consistently scoring on every third or fourth shot.

To me 12 is a lot more realistic so I'd go there. The others are horrific in some ways. The penalties are weird sometimes but this team goes a bit slow.

It doesn't really matter which one you pick -- they are all pretty much the same.

I don't think you can still play the older titles online, though.
