Why the CPU plays unstoppable, and the fix

I have been on the forums, getting a lot of tips and help from the community. I have lost more games than I have won and it was mainly due to the strong comeback A.I.

I just found out what the main problem was, and it was only one slider particularly. Its the Clutch Factor slider.

Even at 35, the Clutch Factor slider is too high and causes the rubberband A.I. to kick in and make all these comebacks. I just played a game on All Star vs the Hornets, with User and CPU Clutch Factor at 0. I won the game 92-80. Both me and the CPU had wide open shots that were actually missed with perfect timing, not everything was nailed. It was REAL Basketball. It may only be one game, but I have never beaten the CPU that much, especially on the ALL STAR level.

I believe 2K should tune the Clutch Factor rating, because I feel at 0, the CPU wasn't giving its best. Maybe set it at 15?

The reason I made this thread cause I know some of people aren't real big slider junkies, I like to play straight out the box on the game's own terms. However, I feel the Clutch Factor rating needs to be tweaked to get a fair game.

Re: Why the CPU plays unstoppable, and the fix

I did notice the CPU becomes unstoppable at times, but I chalk it up to just being NBA basketball, and some teams get hot at certain times. Recent example, I played the Knicks in my association (I'm the Warriors). I was up 20 the majority of the game, up 11 or 13 or so going into the 4th quarter. And I just couldn't stop them in the 4th and they ended up slowly coming back and then winning the game in the final 30 seconds. I couldn't stop Melo or any of them. Not sure if clutch factor has anything to do with it, but I didn't think the game was broken or anything over it, I just figured that happens sometimes in the NBA and I moved on. I never make any judgments against the AI after one game.

If I played 10 games in which I was up 20 in every game and ended up blowing the lead and losing in the 4th quarter, I'd probably think there was a problem. But first I'd look at my own game and think, "what am I doing wrong??" But one game? No big deal.

But other than that game, I haven't noticed any rubberband AI really throughout the 31 games of my association on All-star difficulty. Have a lot of people noticed this on a consistent basis? I.e. more than one game here or there.

I just played another game as the Nets against the Hornets and won 101-92. Jarrett Jack even shot an air ball, CPU actually missed wide open jumpers. This game has just gotten 100x better for me!

I have Clutch favor at 20 and it seems to be a solid mix.

I'm noticing that the game plays easier overall since the 1.05 patch...but this could just be my imagination.

i always tell people find a level that you think the cpu is very good and adjust the sliders from there. I also play in all star without any slider changes it hard thanks god i use my knicks i can always count on outscoring the other team

When it comes to sliders, I don't even know where to begin. I tried adjusting the shooting to 47 (like Da Czar did in his video) but to no avail. Then I was going through the slider forums here on OS and saw someone modify the Clutch Factor.

Basically I play on All Star/Sim just with Clutch Factor on 0 the only slider edit. I won 2 games against the Hornets, and lost to the Rockets 108-101. I am going to see what its like playing the Heat. if I keep it close with the Heat, I am going to play another one (on Superstar difficulty) and if that is close, I will raise the Clutch Factor slider accordingly. I was amazed the CPU missed wide open shots!

                  1. You cant adjust sliders every game and expect to find the perfect set. Every game is different.

                  2. Othrr peoples sliders are really just a base. You play different so the sliders should be adjusted to your skill level.

My skill level is pretty good, I've played more than enough games to grasp basketball strategy. I just look for realism- I want the CPU to be tough, but also be weak. On All Star/Default, it irked me I had to Play Tight on the Nuggets Center Kosta (sp) because he would bang wide open midrange shots with his 53 Medium Shot rating.

Unfortunately you can't adjust cheat factor errr I mean clutch factor for online associations.

I play with the clutch slider at 7 for both human and cpu. I feel like it allows more of the players' actual ratings to shine through, but still incorporates players' clutchness.

I played with cpu clutch factor 1
and I had enough of this ridiculous scripted 4th quarter!!
Everyday I decide to give another try to play a good game and win
but the result is just frustrating.

I'm on superstar and I gotta say I really enjoyed the first 3 quarters
until the cpu turns on their invincible HOF super crazy mode
I understand the rubberband cpu is trying to comeback
but this is too much, it just feels like an entire different team
like from cavs->spurs all a sudden, and even their bench plays like stars
and not to mention my team sucks so bad at the same time.
Then it allows the cpu to comeback from -10 to +15 or more EVERY SINGLE GAME!
c'mon I really tried to stay calm and run plays everytime
well, ended up I just want to throw the controller or break the disc

and now you have me typing all this mad comment here
enough is enough, I will not play again.

The CPU comeback A.I. gets crazier the more you raise the difficulty. On All Star smart basketball can usually stop a run after a couple of baskets, but on Superstar, the CPU is unstoppable when they kick in.

I feel like the only difference between the difficulty levels is the cheat factor, and the clutch factor is part of that. For example, the CPU goes on super crazy mode when they are losing on Superstar or HOF, but the comebacks are not as drastic on Pro or All-Star. That's why I never play anything but All-Star w/0 clutch factor slider. So much more realistic.
