2k has it
If 2ksports games have the ability to share rosters, sliders, custom teams, and created players. How come EA sports games doesn't have something atleast similar to it.I feel having to download realistic sliders, old teams the game will be much more fun. -
Re: 2k has it
Because the EA team is terrible, they've been using the same recycled game since 09 with little changes, GM mode still sucks, and many key features found in the old NHL games are not found here.
I still stick to 2k for Franchise mode to this day, I only use EA to play online with friends.
I wish they had some competition so they could pick up their act. -
Re: 2k has it
I'm not trying to defend EA here, but I would like to give them a little tiny bit of credit. I went back and played '11 the other day, and the biggest improvement I noticed was the puck physics. I guess I didn't notice it last year, but the puck rarely bounces around in '11, and sometimes comes to a dead halt when it should clearly ricochet. The puck physics are much more fluid, but spontaneous, in '12. Hitting is also better in '12, imo.
That said, there is an awful lot more that could be improved. $60 for one improvement plus some broken glass and goalie interaction is quite steep.Comment

Re: 2k has it
While 2K does indeed have the features mentioned, there was alot that series was missing that would made the game alot more fun as well. The grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side, it's just nice to have something else to play while the frustration settles.Comment

I feel like the game is getting close, but they are just making so many small tweaks that it's tough to warrant the 60.
If this season they fix how the goalies play (Coming out of the crease, the angles they take, covering pucks etc.) and how well the AI can get the puck so easily (In the corners and in front of their goalie especially) and tweak the hitting and shooting, i think the game will be pretty close to perfect.
Adding game face (so we can create better versions of ourselves, and players in game with awful models. Just look at the model for Ryan Reaves. It looks horrid.)
That would all be icing on the cake.Comment

Disagree! ;-)
Puck or Physics in general and hitting is way better in NHL2K10!!!
No Doubt!
Just watch the Physics Vids from DJNeo on 2khockey.net or youtube!Comment

Re: 2k has it
That said from the videos i watched the puck physics just don't seem that solid, and both games need to find a nice way to better represent players skating. It's still too easy for AI players to just stop and move with the puck glued to their stick, almost pivoting in place to change directions.Comment

Re: 2k has it
It is kind of frustrating that EA refuses to implement small things that other sports games have been using for years(such as the downloadable slider settings, rosters, and create a players).
Its not like any of that would hurt their product. Most of it is used for offline play only, ouside of using a custom slider set for a private online league or something.
I think the most aggrivating thing is- hockey is hands down my favorite sport. EA's NHL games aren't horrible. However, if you really think about it- NHL 12 pales in comparison to what games like MLB: The Show, NBA2k, and FIFA bring to the table. Thats across the board. All those games arguable feature much more realistic gameplay(or can be tweaked to play as realistic or as fake as you want), they all have MUCH better presentation and commentary, they all feature much more diverse and realistic stadiums, players/atributes all create a much more diverse league, far greater animation sets, the list goes on and on.
Is it too much to ask for a deeper hockey game?Comment

Re: 2k has it
It is when you take into consideration that any of the three games you mentioned bring in at least twice the $ that the NHL series does. Yeah, it's sales have progressively grown over the years, but they still pale in comparision. The sad reality is that developers are usually given a budget based on those sales, which is why there is no longer an NHL 2K.
Both games sales have a high percantage of a North American audience, as opposed to other parts of the world.
If you look at sales figues for both NHL 11 and MLB 11 just on PS3(wouldn't be fair comparing total sales, because obviously MLB is Playstation only). NHL moved more units on PS3 than MLB did.
As I said, I see your point. I am not saying San Diego Studios reinvents the wheel with its game every year. Yet, they put out an extremely polished product(arguably one of the best on the market), with an insane amount of depth, customization, and support. I see far more put into MLB(and NBA, and FIFA) on a yearly basis than I do by the NHL team since 2008. The excuse that hockey isn't as popular, and doesn't sell enough to warrant it- doesn't sit well with me. Especially when NHL outsells what is arguably the epitome of what I am asking for out of a sports game.Comment
