    Hidden coaching chemistry?

In my franchise, my defense has been in the top 3 in the league in yards allowed and points scored for the last two seasons, sometimes even leading the entire league. At the end of last season, my defensive coordinator vanished. I mean, he's completely gone from the game. I looked for him so I could resign him, but he was nowhere to be found. He wasn't coaching another team or available or anywhere. So, I said "whatever" and signed another defensive coordinator.

Now, my defense is pretty much intact from the previous season. I cut one of my linebackers and replaced him with a much higher rated free agent, Sam Acho. I also signed an additional defensive tackle, Shaun Rogers, to bring in to help stop the run. So, my defensive unit is pretty much the same as it's been the last couple of seasons. Sam Acho wound up getting injured and so did my starting DT. The only real loss in terms of injury is Sam Acho, I have enough depth at DT to replace my injured guy. So far this season, my defense has allowed 6 players to rush for well over 100 yds and is giving up close to 300 passing yards per game. My defense looks like they replaced it with a bunch of college players or something.

I'm wondering if this poor performance has anything to do with the loss of my defensive coordinator. There is really no other way to explain why my defense would be playing so poorly this season. Do you think the guys at EA actually snuck in some kind of chemistry between the coordinators and the team's performance?

I wouldn't be surprised. Teams in MUT are affected by coach attributes.

It's been theorized by King2V3 that HC OVR has a big impact on your team's play and possibly an impact on the other team.

It would follow that, assuming OC/DC/ST have OVRs as well, that this could be what you're seeing.

Perhaps you went to a lesser OVR DC and now some of your players aren't playing up to snuff.

All just theory and guessing, but I wouldn't be very surprised giving the findings about HC OVR and assuming that ALL coaches have an OVR rating (if nothing else, because you might hire them to HC jobs, so it has to figure an OVR rating for them).

Also, if you're playing a 32-team franchise, what are the OVRs of the HC you played against? If they are high as well, it might be some of that effect as well.

I think the coordinators have an OVR, because when you make them HCs, they most certainly have one...

And they fall within a pretty wide range...

I think if OP could restart a dummy franchise, fire his original DC and hire him as an HC, while also making his current (inferior) DC as the HC of another team, you'd see that the first guy has a higher OVR than the second...

Did your HC's rating fluctuate at all during the stretch you describe?

That number affects the kind of thing you're describing as well...

My coach's overall went from 100 to 99. Not much of a change and I have no idea when he lost that one point on overall rating. I have no idea what my DC is rated or what the previous DC was rated.

            What team?

Do you know the names of the new guy and the former guy?

I just saw a DC I got rid of from AZ end up as an HC in SD that came in as a 86 OVR HC...

The "hidden" value of OCs / DCs...seems to be a factor...

Man, EA needs to at least give us a screen to check our coaching staff's ratings. Maybe make it a choice in the "The Coach" menu.

                Re: Hidden coaching chemistry?

I can say with relative certainty that HC OVR makes a difference in franchise mode in at least CPU vs CPU simulated games. I started a fantasy franchise 32 team control league with all created teams. The teams that did the best in the league in the first season all had coaches with high OVRs, and the teams that did worse has coaches with low OVRs. It might be a coincidence, as most of the teams with high OVR coaches also had good players, but there was one team that lost only two games all season and went to the NFC Championship that had mediocre players at best, but had a HC with 100 OVR.

It would not surprise me at all if OCs and DCs OVR also influenced games.
It's actually kind of sad if coaches have too much influence on games. I don't think most people notice though because in the base NFL there's not such a wide variety of coach ratings. With all created coaches, you notice a huge difference.

I'm playing as the Cards, but also experienced this with Bengals (M. Lewis) and esp. OAK (with "Dave Alexander" hired as HC / former DEN DC)...

I have never been able to see which DC i had.
When i got to the staff screen the DC was already gone.
How do i know which one was there in first place?

                        You have to remember, basically.

EA has not deemed us worthy of knowing that once you leave that staffing screen.

And even then, you don't see his OVR.

It seems they are the actual Coordinators coaches.

                            At least from AZ.
But i think they disappear from the list since i couldn't find him when i was trying to re sign him.

Sometimes they end up getting signed to another team, and unless you're at the staffing interface, where you can see both "available" and "in NFL", you won't find them...

A few guys "retire" and just disappear completely, haven't seen that with AZ's DC though...

He seems to always get another gig...I was shocked to see he became a HC in 2013 for SD...
