I've been sitting on this game for the past three days, waiting for a review that would entice me to break the seal and take a crack at it instead of returning it for full value. I have yet to read one. The "fun factor" of 2K11 had too much "frustration factor" that negatively balanced itself out the more I played it. It seems like every year, the only sports games series I have hesitation on buying or opening once I purchase it is MLB 2K. The baseball Jones is a strong one, so I'll cave eventually.

I'm so confused as to why someone would purchase a game, then not open it and just... have it there, while having an internal debate about returning it. Why not just not buy it in the first place?

2K baseball is Jeckyll and Hyde. Both good and bad but the bad can be very frustrating and really hurt the experience.

Can't justify it. I'm a baseball game addict. Since first playing baseball on Atari many, many years ago, I've been hooked. Sometimes you need your fix close at hand. I felt that I wasted money a few years in a row and waited until October before grabbing MLB 2K11 at a reduced price. Got MLB 2K12 for $35 at Gamestop after some trade-ins and credits that weren't going to any other games, so...

i know, its like the reviewer ignored the patch that was released on release day and fixed the frame rate issues.

I personally feel reviews should be based on retail release and not take into account patches. Even release day ones.

Well it's awesome on the 360. Plays pretty smooth. It can chop when the ball is in play, but the game is basically the show with lesser graphics and smooth online play. Better controls and some nice stats. I don't know about mediocre. It's a very good game and has its pluses and minuses. Are some of hte animations and player models cheesy? Absolutely. But overall I think it's a good game. I've played it to death at this point and I'm really enjoying it still.

It's like its a couple years behind the curve but with that comes smooth online play and some nice little features and quirks. 2k loaded this game up with little things this year. The graphics really aren't that bad either. They are just somewhat dated but colorful at least. The game looks good overall.

thats fine, i agree, BUT he mentions that the game needed a patch, and one was already released.

Gamespot gave 2K12 a 5.5 and the show 7.5. Pretty strict this year..Just listening to the players though it sounds like the show is a definite 9 and 2K probably falls in the 7 to 7.5 category.. I personally dont care what they say.2K runs smooth both online and off. I am loving it. I hope 2k does patch some things that the players are complaining about. Some people want some things patched that are honestly just cosmetic and I would really just want to see them focus on gameplay issues..One thing I do agree on is uniform colors.I mean if the yankees colors are off as they say this needs to be addressed.. My main issues are

1) players running with the heads up
2) I dont feel like I have enough control of the players on defense..moving, diving

mlb 2k12 as usual delivers a good, fun game of baseball with sim style stats. once in a while Ill see a flukey animation but tahsta bout it. other than that it runs pretty smooth. this is the pc version.

every year both titles provide a good game and somewhat different feel to baseball.

another good thing about 2k is the amount of time it takes to play a game. The presentation/commentary makes the game feel as though its moving at a good clip.. deosnt go through the lulls that are typically found in baseball.

Yes but that has zero to do with how the game was released to the public. It's fine to review also after patch or say a patch may fix issues, but the game should have a review strictly about released state.

The game was released with the patch on release for the 360 though which is it's main platform. Most people playing the game never even saw these issues. Shouldn't the game be reviewed on it's main platform? It's like reviewing the show on the psp.

If you look at sales for this game it's basically a 360 baseball game. So most people aren't going to be seeing these issues.

Sorry but the game has to be reviewed in it's release state, period. Another review can and probably should be done after the patch.

Those that do not have the 360 (or PS3 for that matter) hooked online would not get the patch and therefore have the issues.

Sorry, but publishing a review a week after the game comes out and not mentioning that the issues discussed in the review were actually fixed Day 1, is unfair and misleading, period.

I wasnt real impressed with the demo of mlb2k12. But I dropped in to a best buy, and saw they had the full game to demo at the store. I played as the angels against the marlins at the new marlins stadium. And I really enjoyed it. It was fun to play, and I shopped around and found a guy selling a used copy of mlb2k12. I got it to the house and am really happy with it. I am eager to see the new rookies like the cuban cespedes, and yu darvish when they get added to the rosters in mlb. Apparently new players must be approved by mlb and be active in real season games before they can be added. But in any case the game is fun. I have never played the show, but since I have a 360 I dont have the option, and I am not gonna buy a ps3 just for one game. I am looking forward to next season to see what happens when more developers allowed to make mlb games. I hope the nfl and ncaa opens up their licensing as well.
