Ahhh Divot, gotta love how you always have to create a counterargument (no matter how off base) if there is any criticism levelled at the TW franchise. You don't need to be a programmer to realize that the AI in other sports games is much harder to code and is time consuming. It's almost like you take some personal offense to any valid criticism of the game. The franchise has flaws just like almost every other sports franchise. I'm ecstatic with the Move implementation this year but it doesn't mean that the series doesn't have major missteps with the sim aspect of it in other areas.

Played the demo and can't get into it. Driving the ball is supper easy, no thought involved. The short game is a mess with the new swing motion. I'll check out the reviews when the game does come out but it is not a first day buy.

I think too much is made of the swing mechanic, in my opinion. Yea, some iterations are better than others (from year to year), but they are all basically the same. As long as you can scale the difficulty I think most people will find a setting that suits them. As for the demo, I'm still clueless on how to execute pitch shots, and putting seems far more difficult than it should be (even on easier settings). I'll chalk that up to me not fully understanding the new controls and some bugs inherent in the demo.

For my money, I'd really like to see the career mode and overall atmosphere improved. The galleries look much better this year, so that's a good start, but playing the game still lacks any feeling that you're actually "in the game" as other sports games do. It especially struck me when the camera showed my golfer (I think it was Tiger) walking down the fairway all by himself after hitting a shot. No caddie carrying the bag, no walking scorer, no camera or mike guys, nothing. And "tournament atmosphere" was turned on. It's the little things like this that are missing and immediately pull you out of any feeling of actually playing a tour event.

This is such a lame argument. Do you realize how more complex the coding is for AI where you have to account for many different outcomes based on a mutlitude of situations (the testing alone for bugs is a major pain in the ***) as opposed to a simple golf score posted by a random golfer where you don't have to code for any of his actions or have to account for direct interaction to what the user does and then further code for another vast variety of outcomes.

Yes they both derive from the same basics of coding but it's like comparing grade 6 math to university calculas. I'm not sure why I'm even arguing this point, it is so obvious. If you wanna get the last word in, go for it but you are way off on this to even compare what TW does compared to NBA2K5 or Madden.

If they had made the shot stick as sensitive as last year then the game could be fun with this swing but it's almost impossible not to hit it straight and the fact that you have little fear that you're gonna shank it takes alot of the immersion out of it. Many people love the driving aspect of it so to take that away was ill advised. That would have made sim guys really happy with this tempo AND lateral shot sensitivity to worry about. Hopefully they patch this.

But they made into a north\south game of darts. Even with a more sensitive dualshock controller you are driving it straight 95% of the time. I'm not sure if they did this to combat the Hori stick users online and give everyone the ability to hit it deadeye straight so they had no advantage in posting scores. Something like a "if we can't beat'em then let's join'em" mentality. I expect online scores to be ridiciously low again this year.

But if you are a PS3 user, and I've said this already a few times, get it for the Move. Can't speak for the Kinect. Even if you are a lazy gamer (and I usually am) the Move implementation is very immersive and you won't want to go back to the controller after you play a few holes. This new swing is tailormade for motion control and it is not nearly as forgiving as the joystick and it has precision putting.

I haven't purchased this game since '10, so I've played about 60 holes on the demo so far, and I want to respond to everyone who says the short game is too difficult. I had the same thoughts after my first few chip/pitch/flop shots.

Then I broke through. Move the ball back in your stance, and utilize the ball strike (right stick) mechanic to move down on the ball for a running chip shot. Wow, huge difference.

Same for flop shot, move the ball up in your stance, open your stance, strike very low on the ball.

This game brings a new challenge to the short game, gone are the days of choose chip shot type then swing. You have to set up your shot and then use BOTH sticks to execute. I kept intentionally hitting into the greenside bunkers just to try to get out of them. I just pre-ordered.

There was one post here from a programmer saying Golf would be much easier. If that is indeed the case, I accept it. However, in the future, try not to get personal with your responses by accusing me of defending this or that. I have opinions just like you do and you don't see me accusing you of things like this. I am not here to "win" anything and I am not here to argue. I am here to participate and help users with TW Golf. If you can't work with that understanding, then put me on ignore because I don't need to read the BS comments.

While I agree that CM could be improved, I believe the reason you do not see a caddy and other enhancements gets down to resources. Rendering a Golf course with current console hardware is resource intensive as it is and they are pushing the hardware really hard to crank out the current visuals. I know the Dev Team want to do more in this respect, but I believe they are waiting for the next generation of consoles to start adding more immerisve elements to the game.

I like my golf simmy. If you don't go play Hot Shots.

The fact is, any game that presents a fun challenge, be it 'sim' or 'arcade', is going to be something that keeps people coming back. The games that are decidedly easy for no other reason, well, very few of those games will be remembered because very few can make you forget your running on a hamster wheel.

Well, I finally got the demo and I have 2 questions/problems. The first thing I was looking for was an aiming method similar to 2011 where I would zoom to the fairway and it would show yardage, without showing the distance and landing area for your club. Am I missing something or is it just not there? the second thing was I hit my second shot in the water on 15 at Augusta, and got no option on where to drop, the game just did it for me. Please tell me I'm missing something, or that is changed in the final release.

I understand there are hardware limitations, but you can find plenty of examples of other sports games on the current consoles that render these types of visuals (NCAA football, NBA 2K12, etc.). Granted, the quality of the visuals degrades as more and more are added, but I'm sure the EA folks are smart enough to find a way to do this if they really want to. I just don't think it's a priority for them. Maybe their research indicated it wasn't important to most gamers.

You cannot compare rendering a Golf course with dynamic/animated 3D trees, grass and other objects to rendering a stadium. One tree can take the same rendering resources as a full 3D rendered team on a football field.....huge differences between the two.
