Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
Block 1 Update: 7-3-0, 4th in EC
Goalkeeper Ryan Miller is leading the Sabres with great play between the pipes.
Sabres Off to Hot Start
BUFFALO, NY - It's been five years since Buffalo advanced past the first round of the NHL playoffs.
After ten games the faithful in Buffalo are thinking this may be the year to break that streak.
The Sabres have stormed out to a 7-3-0 start that sees them amongst the best in the NHL. Solid goaltending from Ryan Miller, who has two shutouts already in the short season, and loads of scoring production from the top two lines has Buffalo on a bit of a roll as the NHL's first month comes to an end.
Highlight of the Block: Thomas Vanek's hat trick in Tampa. The top line winger had just one goal in the first six games but exploded in a 5-1 victory for a three goals and an assist to push Buffalo to 5-2.
Needs Improvement: Scoring from the defensemen. Buffalo is not intimidating anyone when the puck gets thrown back to the blue line. In ten games the Sabres have just one goal from a defensemen, that being a Tyler Myers blast in the 5-1 blowout of Tampa Bay.

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
Block 2 Update: 11-6-3, 5th in EC
Leading goal scorer Thomas Vanek has helped Buffalo to 5th place after 20 games.
Injury Bug Hits Fifth Place Sabres
BUFFALO, NY - Injuries are something each and every NHL team has to deal with. Now, Buffalo must fill a hole on the blue line after D Jordan Leopold left a 4-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes with a concussion and is expected to be out 4-5 weeks.
D Alexander Sulzer will step into the void left by Leopold.
Buffalo will enter the third block of the season without Leopold but with him the Sabres pushed their record to 11-6-3 in the second block of the season. The Sabres had the opportunity to make up ground on division leader Boston who is off to a great start behind the stellar play of goalie Tim Thomas but fell to the Bruins 6-2 on November 12th.
Highlight of the Block: The Sabres had just three goals in the last 11 periods during their November 4th meeting with Calgary. Locked in a 1-1 tie in the third period D Jordan Leopold picked a great time for his first goal of the season as he blasted a puck by Calgary goalie Miikka Kipursoff with 28.1 seconds left to win the game for the Sabres.
Needs Improvement: Backup goalie Jhonas Enroth. The Sabres do not want to get in a position where they are sacrificing any chance at winning when they want to give G Ryan Miller a nights rest. Enroth is now 0-2 in starts with an embarrassing showing against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins allowing four goals in the first nine minutes.

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
Block 3 Update: 16-11-3, 6th in EC
Tyler Ennis put Buffalo on a high note, it soon ended.
Highest Highs and the Lowest Lows
BUFFALO, NY - The Sabres started the third block of the year with the biggest win of their young season. After a 6-2 drubbing in Boston on November 12th the Sabres got another shot at the current big dog on the block and took the Bruins down in a shootout after Derek Roy and Tyler Ennis beat the leagues best goalie, Tim Thomas, to give Sabres a 1-1 record so far against the defending champs.
Then the Sabres would split a pair of games against Columbus (L) and Washington (W) before the wheels fell off.
The NHL's worst team, the New York Islanders, hit HSBC Arena and head coach Lindy Ruff figured it was about time for backup goalie Jhonas Enroth to get his first win. C Derek Roy became the worst nightmare of Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro scoring on four of his first seven shots in the game as Buffalo led 5-2 over New York at the start of the third period.
Enroth allowed five goals and New York added an empty netter to win 8-5 to deliver a crushing blow to the Sabres' confidence. This was apparent the next week as Buffalo struggled being outscored 20-3 in their next three games to extend their losing streak to four games.
The losing would end against Florida on December 9th as Buffalo ended the block doing a complete 180 and currently sits on a three game winning streak.
Highlight of the Block: Tyler Ennis closing out the shootout against Boston got HSBC Arena as loud as it's been in years.
Needs Improvement: Still Jhonas Enroth. Enroth's meltdown against the Islanders sunk the entire team. Enroth is now at 0-4 on the year with a GAA of over five. The Sabres have begun looking at other options to backup G Ryan Miller.

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
Block 4 Update: 19-16-5, 12th in EC
Sabres Captain Derek Roy and Buffalo missed out on two shots at division leading Toronto.
Bad Run Continues
BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo finished the last block on a three game winning streak and a fourth straight win would put Buffalo ahead of Toronto in the division. The Sabres would lose 4-1 and then again to the Maple Leafs six days later as part of a four game losing streak.
The losing streak was close to reaching five as Buffalo went to overtime with Washington but D Robyn Regehr found the back of the net to stop the slide and give the Sabres a much needed two points. Buffalo would get a point out of their next game losing to New Jersey in a shootout before losing two and then winning two.
Buffalo has fallen outside of the playoff picture in the East but is not far out. Buffalo is just two points out of the eight seed currently held by Montreal.
Highlight of the Block: Robyn Regehr's overtime goal to snap the losing streak.
Needs Improvement: Scoring, Buffalo currently ranks dead last in goals scored. The Sabres (87) have seven less goals scored than the New York Islanders (94), the Islanders are 8-26-4 which puts them 17 points behind the next closest team.

EJ Hradek Tweets Change Possible in Buffalo
BUFFALO, NY - NHL Network senior reporter EJ Hradek posted a tweet suggesting it's make or break time in Buffalo.
@EJHradek_NHL: "Someone close to new Sabres owner Terrence Pegula says if Buffalo does not turn their season around a shakeup at the trade deadline is likely."
Buffalo already holds two first round picks thanks to the Paul Gaustad to Nashville deal. Options are nearly endless as both those picks are currently positioned to be top ten selections.Comment
