    Spring is here!

    And with it, spring games. I know LSU already played their game. Oregon's isn't until the 28th, and I am impatiently waiting, haha. Do any of you guys look forward to spring games/put much stock into evaluating the talent at this stage? or Do you just watch to sort of hold you over for the beginning of the season?

        Heretic.

        My beloved Coogs will be wrapping up spring practice tonight with the annual Red-White game. Things I'll be looking for:
        • How far has QB David Piland come since he was forced into action as a true frosh following Case Keenum's season ending knee injury back in 2010?;
        • What wrinkles will new o-coord Mike Nesbitt add to our Air Raid offense?;
        • Coogs are switching to a 4-3, but since our O is almost exclusively 4 wide it's unlikely we will get to see much of it tonight;
        • We're getting new helmets and uni's this year to go along with the new athletic logos. We may see the helmets tonight, or it may be the old helmets with new decals.

          I'm interested in seeing who will take the 3rd WR slot for USC and lineup between Woods and Lee. Will it be Farmer or the veteran Flournoy who really hasn't been able to get onto the field? Different new comer?

          Also looking forward to last years 3 Freshman LB's Bailey, Dawson and Pullard taking the next step in their development.

          Also, the LT battle now that Kalil is gone between Graf and Walker. Sounds like Walker has the inside track.

            Florida States was saturday, a few bright spots like NSL, Terrence Brooks both shined. Huge disappointment in E.J. he still hasn't taken the steps to become a elite qb still makes all the mistakes he made 2 years ago.

              Zach Mettenberger looked really good in some highlights of LSU's spring, about all I was looking for.

                Louisville's spring game was Saturday and the only thing I can say for sure is Teddy Bridgewater gained some weight and he's getting more accurate. This is good for the up coming season.

                  Re: Spring is here!

                  Like any other Uconn game, our offense was inept as the White beat Blue 14-5. though Chandler Whitmer, our JUCO soph looked the best and was 18-27 for 187 yards. Shakim Phillips had nice catches too. our D will be one of the best in the country again though. I think at least 5 of them will be nfl players next year ( trevardo williams, J.Joseph, S.Moore, B.Wreh-Wilson, D.Gratz)

                    I was glad to see our offense looked mostly the same without bobby. Cobi Hamilton and Chris Gragg are going to be a nice 1-2 punch this year...only spots on the team im really worried about are SS and the OL. I like what our new defensive staff has brought to the table

                      Our offense looked, well, a lot like the UH offense. A lot of passing. A 42-28 win for the Red side. The new helmets looked good. David Piland didn't throw any picks, and most of his passes looked pretty accurate, although I'm not sure whether I should attribute that to the proficiency of the offense, or the ineptitude of the defense. Our backup RB, Kenneth Farrow, looked pretty good running the ball, too. But that game didn't really ease any fears of mine. I guess we'll see how UH looks when Texas State comes to town on September 1st.

                        Re: Spring is here!

                        I'm really excited for Saturday. A lot of my friends wanted to plan things, and I told them they could come around to grill out, but that's about it, haha. I used the games to evaluate talent, as well. A lot of the guys who performed well in spring games did step up when it came time for the actual season. For Oregon specifially, I'll definitely be looking at how the "tazer" position that Chip Kelly devised for De'Anthony Thomas has evolved in our offense. I'm very anxious about seeing Brian Bennett running 1st Offense. He looked promising last year, while Darron was injured, but I really want to see him work through the playbook. I have complete faith in Kenjon Barner, the guy is smart, he's a speedster, and he's bigger than LeMichael and I like that a lot. Great insight from you guys about the spring games.

                          I can tell you that as a Duck fan, USC scares me. I hated the way people treated Pac-12 teams when they lost to USC, last year. I'm thinking, they may be inelligible, but they are still a top-10-in-the-nation team. Not making the Bowl season, doesn't strip your current talent. That LB core is definitely something to look at. USC has a penchant for having incredible athletes in the middle of the defense, and I don't think that will be changing anytime in the next few years.

                            I'm very excited about Arkansas. You are exactly right about that 1-2 punch, and the defense. I'm proud to say if there is one team I like to see win in the SEC, it is Arkansas. (I wish my NFL team had been smart enough to draft Ryan Mallet

                              Arkansas looked good because there coach had not left that long ago so not much had changed yet and the first team was playing the 2nd team defense...

                              They returned most of there offense so it's not like it's a big surprise they look good. With a top QB they will have a good team/offense

                              IMO though Smith was a horrible get and he will be carried more by his team than the other way around for the short time he is there anyway.
