      Marlins Looking to Ship Zambrano?

The Miami Marlins have been rumored to be shopping newly-acquired RHP Carlos Zambrano, tweets Marlins beat writer Juan C. Rodriguez. On January 4th the Cubs sent Big Z to Miami in exchange for former top prospect RHP Chris Volstad. After a rough performance in spring training and just a 76 OVR rating the Marlins do not seem interested in keeping Zambrano and his massive $14 million contract on the roster. Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.

Marlins Deal Zambrano to Royals for CF Jason Bourgeois

Carlos Zambrano never threw a single regular season pitch in a Miami Marlins uniform. The veteran starter, who was acquired in the offseason in a trade with the Chicago Cubs, was traded to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for speedy CF Jason Bourgeois. In the final week of spring training the Royals presented the Marlins with this trade offer and Miami was glad to part with Zambrano's $14 million price tag. Bourgeois, a 30 year old major league veteran with blazing speed, is expected to make the Marlins Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder. Zambrano is likely to begin the regular season in the back of the Royals rotation.

Marlins Ink Roy Oswalt to 1-Year Deal

The Miami Marlins have made yet another splash in the free agent market, agreeing to terms with veteran RHP Roy Oswalt on a 1-year, $6.15 million deal. The day after dealing underperforming pitcher Carlos Zambrano to the Royals the Marlins felt a need to upgrade their already solid pitching rotation. Oswalt, who spent last season with the Philadelphia Phillies projects to pitch 3rd in Miami's rotation behind Josh Johnson and newly-signed LHP Mark Buehrle. The Marlins now feel they have a top notch starting rotation that can threaten their division-rival Phillies.

Marlins Christen New Ballpark With Walk Off Win

The inaugural regular season game at sparkling new Marlins Park ended in a 2-1 Marlins victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in 10 innings. It was a classic pitcher's duel, with Josh Johnson battling Adam Wainwright deep into the contest. Johnson allowed just 2 hits and had a comically low 72 pitch count through 8 innings, prompting manager Ozzie Guillen to leave his ace in for the 9th to try and complete the shutout. The Cardinals managed to scratch across their 1st run and tie the game 1-1 with 2 outs in the 9th inning, ending Johnson's hopes for an Opening Day shutout and sending the game into extra innings. With 1 out in the 10th, Logan Morrison laced an RBI single, his second hit of the night to give the Marlins a walkoff victory to begin the 2012 season.

Logan Morrison smacks the game winning single in the 10th to score Emilio Bonifacio

Marlins Bats Come Alive, Spoil Reds' Home Opener

Giancarlo Stanton and Gaby Sanchez each launched their first HR's of the season

Mark Buehrle's first start as a Marlin was a solid one as he tossed 7 innings of 4-run baseball in Cincinnati. In a seasaw battle which saw eight lead changes, the Marlins came out on top on the heels of a 3-RBI game from Giancarlo Stanton. The 22-year old slugger connected on his first homerun of the season in the 5th inning. Gaby Sanchez also hit his first long ball of the young season. Miami-native Mat Latos was roughed up by the Fish and knocked out after just 5 and 2/3 innings on Thursday in Cincinnati's home opener.

Off to a good start man, excellent job taking care of those pesky NL Central teams thus far. I'll be following for sure.

Out of curiosity, why deal Zambrano? I know his rating isn't like super high, but he definitely is a serviceable guy to put in your 3 hole in the rotation and Oswalt can't be much better than him can he? Is he just one of those guys you really don't like using?

Well, Oswalt had better ratings in just about every category and only cost me $6 million, whereas Zambrano's contract was $14 million in 2012 and $15 million in 2013.

I appreciate you dudes following this, thanks!
