Just a bit confused about BCS rules

So when I was playing my Mizzou dynasty and it was week 9. I was #1 playing #2 nebraska. I lost the game, so i fell to #4 and Nebraska was the new #1. In conference champs week, the #1 huskers took on #10 Indiana. Indiana won 34-31 getting a bcs bid. After that, i was at #3, and Nebraska was #4. Nebraska, however, did not play in the bcs. I know that only 2 teams from a conf. can go to the bcs, in this case it was Indiana and Mizzou. But isnt there also a rule saying the top 4 automatically get a bcs bid? Does one rule override the other?

Yes. The 2 team limit overrides the top 4 rule. I believe they have made a tweak to that rule recently though.

Thanks for the clarification. It just doesnt really seem fair that a team like Nebraska who is ranked #4 has to settle for the capital one bowl.

But you are in bizzaro world with Indiana getting a BCS bid, lol. So it seems about right.

yea lol indiana actually played in 2 national titles, I (mizzou) beat them both times. The latest national title was Rice beating North Carolina, and Utah State won the Rose Bowl to finish #2 in the country. Crazy.

Did you put Mizzou in the Big 10? Otherwise, your story doesn't make sense.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

Sounds that way. I guess he hasn't gotten on board the SEC train with the rest of us yet.

I am confused how you beat Indiana in the NT game twice in the same conference.

Anyway, it is a 2 team limit. The only way around it is for the conference champion to be ranked #3 or lower, and #1 and #2 be from the same conference.

I saw it a few times in 2011. Once with Wisconsin/tOSU/Michigan and twice with Boise State/TCU/Missouri (MWC dynasty, back when it looked like the Big XII was going to fail).

I originally put them in the SEC, then I moved them about 10 years in to reunite them with their rivals Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, and Iowa St. (Those last 2 were put in to create a 16 team conference)

Indiana was in the MAC when it happened and I was in the SEC. I don't know how a MAC team made 2 straight NC games.

In my online dynasty we've had some interesting times with the BCS too.

In our first season, one of my friends went 12-1 with Tennessee, won the Big East (we did custom conferences to balance them out), and DID NOT get an invite to a BCS game.

In our second season we just finished, I went 12-2 with Colorado, including a win @USC (10-2), @Cal (8-4), and @Oregon State (10-2), but did not play Stanford (10-2). I went 9-0 in conference play, while USC, Cal, Oregon State, and Stanford all went 7-2. I beat Cal in the Pac-12 title game 51-3, but did not get a BCS invite, but both USC and Stanford did even though neither team won their side of the Conference. Instead, I received an Alamo Bowl invite against Baylor.

Wow that is crazy!! Did you have auto bids for your conferences? If not, then what are rankings for both teams?

Yes, the Big 12, Big 10, Big East, Pac 12, and SEC all get automatic bids to the Championship, yet two years in a row; Big East (1st season) and the Pac 12 (2nd season) champions did not get an invite to the BCS.

I beat Baylor 52-3 in the Alamo bowl yet I still finished the season #15 and USC; who didn't win their side of the Pac 12, and a team I beat @ USC 34-28, finished #2. My 12-2 record apparently wasn't good enough as I finished lower than three schools who lost three games each. I have come to the conclusion that the game HATES Colorado.

Me and brother just had this happen. He's SMU in the Big East, went undefeated in the Big East, and did not get a BCS invite.

The Title game pits two At-Large Bids against each other. Penn State #1 and Colorado #2. Neither teams played in their conference championships. The conference champions who are bound to a specific bowl game got their bid. Illinois won the Big Ten, Oregon the Pac-12, Georgia Tech the ACC, Oklahoma the Big 12, and Auburn won the SEC. The other at-larges were Clemson at #3 to the Sugar Bowl, (Did not play in their conference Championship), Idaho at #6 to the Orange Bowl, (MWC Champ, controlled by me), and Tennessee at #7, (who finished 2nd in the SEC East) to the Fiesta Bowl. Meanwhile, #4 Maryland was left out, (lost ACC Game to GT), as was #13 SMU (Big East Champ).

Seems as if Tennessee should have been left out in favor of SMU.
