    My Player teams are terrible

its just ridiculous how bad they are, Ive been on teams like the suns (Nash is just a ball hog with no skill) and the Heat where LeBron struggles to get 20 points a night. On the flip side the CPU dances all over the place and hits shots no human could hit more than once. They don't let you adjust the sliders and HoF is actually worse than pro some how. I can go 3 games and not hit a single shot than ill play a game and get 40+ points with ease. 90 rated 3pt shot and 90 rated medium range and i cant hit a shot to save my life....nor the AI on MY team which means loss after loss.

Now if you go into Association mode and play the exact same teams on the same default sliders the same player who didn't deserve to drive the team bus now play like superstars.....Just a joke flat out.

Re: My Player teams are terrible

This has always been a problem with 'My Player'.

Every single team has a ball hog and every single team has a player who has no reason taking the shots they take.

Using a roster that did ratings and tendeicnes helps this.

Not as much as you think it would. I've played a couple different My Players, some with default rosters provided by 2k, and then another one or two with rosters coming from this site. I get basically the same thing. The only difference I've noticed is the players accessories and shoes.

Players don't play to their likeness very much in My Player, for whatever reason. Chris Paul is a terrible passer and decision maker in my current my player using the 2k Community rosters. Blake Griffin plays like a little girl. I've seen him get dunked on too many times it just makes me sick.

I never really have a problem with the CPU teams playing their game, it always boils down to my own teammates playing out of character. Every time I play this mode, my player always has to end up taking at least 20 shots and hitting at least 40-50 percent of them for my team to have a shot at winning. Assists are a toss up as my teammates only hit wide open shots. Try and dish them the ball in traffic and I'm either going to turn it over or they just blow the shot.

I've played on Pro-Sim, Pro-Default and All-Star-Sim so far in my different attempts at trying to enjoy My Player. I just always end up getting frustrated because it doesn't seem fair.

I can take a wide open jumper with my guy who has a 92 in both his mid range and 3 point shots, 99 consistency, and 95 offensive clutch, and have it clank off the iron, and have a teammate in perfect position to rebound the ball, only to see him give a half-assed effort.

The other team then proceeds to give an outlet to their point guard, who then runs around in circles for a bit, then finds some room near the block and puts up an up and under and he either gets fouled, or he hits the shot, or even both. There's no way to stop it.

The computer can just dribble in circles on their possessions, and even with the D right in their face can hit the shot, no matter who it is. This becomes extremely noticeable when the shot clock is in its waning seconds. Can't tell you how many times I've had someone like Jonny Flynn pull up from the elbow or the corner with 2 seconds left in the shot clock and drain it with a hand in his face.

          /end rant

Had to get that off my chest. This game has been bugging me the past few days. I'll get a few good games in, then out of nowhere a game that feels completely scripted comes along and destroys my enjoyment. I don't mind losing. I actually kinda like losing because I win so often and it gets old, but I don't like losing unfairly. I don't wanna feel I got beat because the game said my teammates had to miss all their shots and play lax defense, and had the other team get fouled on every other possession. I want to get beat fairly. I understand there are just some bad days in basketball. But with this game, it feels totally random as to what the game will produce, which to some is a good thing. But I'd like a little consistency.

I got pretty frustrated with MyPlayer in 2k11. I was stuck on the Bucks though and was too honorable to demand a trade. This year I asked out of Utah early in my rookie season. I waited long enough to be named starter and raise my value a bit. They obliged and sent me to my first choice, Portland. Every single game I have played with Portland has been maximum enjoyment.

I understand the frustration but, imo, the team you play for makes or break the experience. I also think position is crucial as well. I was a shooting guard when I played in real life, but I couldn't stand playing SG in MyPlayer in 2k11 and abandoned the file. I will probably never play MyPlayer as anything except the point guard.

if you dont know how to play basketball in real life theres no slider/roster/developer thats gonna make a damn difference. if you think your gonna get a contact alley off the glass three pointer/ dunk everyplay your sadly mistaken. how about you move the ball around, how bout you drive make the defense commit and kick out a assist. how bout you just shoot mid range open jumpers for one whole quarter and not if it aint a three or a dunk this game sucks. i love my player in fact i dont play any other way and i have never had a problem either scoreing or getting to the rim or getting ankle brakers or assits either pre or post patch. if you know basketball this game rewards you period. my player is all about momentum learn your teams expolits and use them.

um sir it does not matter if you work the ball around or not. i've done it countless times and the cpu recovers no matter what. when you don't feel like taking 40 shots a game your teammates can't do anything unless its wide open. dirk can barley hit shots in mp when your on the mavericks and on hall of fame at that.

my player just isn't simply balanced if you want a team game then association or season might just be the way because my player is not cutting it this year

without question it seems imbalanced at times. but i feel as if you can create momentum then you can effect the teams game. 2k wants you to share the ball work the ball around etc etc. and it will reward you for your efforts. i promise you if your haveing a bad game dish out some assits and take high percentage shots and the game opens up for you. also paul peice is right i have a roster on XBL under my user name ironwork. try it its very competitive and enjoyable imo. its basiclly the ostrifecta roster with some jerseys ive added and shoes. but i understand what you mean.

i know what u are saying i was with the clippers and cp3 was horrible 11pts,5 ast, 5 to while shooting 37 %. i also had to force feed blake for him to get his 19 pts. hopefully next year they'll make MP better experience.

Re: My Player teams are terrible

The CPU teammates are a lot smarter than 2k11 in my opinion. The only problem I have with MY player this year is players have a little too much momentum and the the sliding. But the key to my player is...

                      1) Start on Pro Default difficulty and move up accordingly (As you get better).

                      2) Most importantly, get your TEAM CHEMISTRY UP. (This helps your teammates play smarter). This can takes some time depending on your team and how you play. So you have to play smart, get a good teammate grade, and answer correctly in the press conferences.

                      3) Take quality shots within the flow of your team's offense. (Play with play vision on. This helps with knowing what you and your teammates should be doing)

                      4) Use your timeouts wisely. When a team gets on a run or when you can't make a shot, Call a timeout by pressing select. You will get a positive "good timeout" grade sometimes. (This will trigger the double timeout glitch most of the time though. 2k needs to fix this. It's been there since 2k10). I like to call at least 1 timeout every quarter no matter what.

                      5) Let your teammates get some shots too. ( Some ppl want to shoot every time they get the ball or feel they have to be the one to make the play when the ball finally comes to you. Sometimes it's best to keep the ball moving and be in the right position to catch and shoot in your range if the ball comes to you.

                      6) POSITIONING AND ALWAYS KEEPING THE FLOOR BALANCED ON OFFENSE!!! This is an aspect of the game ppl don't value. You have to be in the right position in regards to the position you play. ex. If you are in the right position on offense your teammates seem to have a better chance of making that shot or making the right play. My player is an all around SG with a high mid range game. So I know I can't be trying to in the paint all the time or I can't try to go for every rebound. If my PG is trying to take his man, I know I have to take his spot as the 1st man back on defense. Or if the ball is in the post, I have to find the open spot in the mid range area. Or just stand still to keep the floor balanced.

I feel that being in the right position and not running around all the time like a chicken with it's cut off makes great things happen in regards to how well the game plays.

                      7) Be discipline and in the right position on defense. I like to force all right hand players left and all left hand players right on the perimeter. Be in position to contest their shooting hand.

Also on defense sometimes you can cherry pick and most of the time you can't. If you are trying to cherry pick to get a quick layup or shot on offense, then your team will usually give up an offensive rebound or you man will get the ball back and score. I think the way the game is coded.

These things help the My Player experience. I'm really enjoying My Player this year.

Yeah. I'm a point guard on The Suns in My Player, and I know your pain OP.

                        1. Aaron Brooks: Oh look, someone who loves to shoot, but can't shoot, and is always upset and asking for a trade so he continues to play even worse. All the while, Coach keeps putting him in at point guard, so he doesn't run plays unless the coach calls them.

It's really fun when you have to run point, but you can't call plays because you've been put in the game as a shooting guard.

                        2. Steve Nash: How is he this bad in my player?!

                        3. Grant Hill: He doesn't like to shoot the ball when he's open. Period. He instead has to make sure he dribble first for some reason, so you can't get him spot up looks unless he is extremely wide open. So instead, you try to isolate him, which always leads to the same awful result, with 4 seconds left in the shot clock he just passes back to you.

                        4. Rebounding: The team is bad at it, period.

There are three brightspots: Marcin Gortat, Jared Dudley, and [your player here]

1 ) listen you can call plays as a shooting guard you have to get your assists up
same as last year when people where crying about 2k taking away the option to call your own plays post patch. if you avg. 8 or more assist per game the 2k insider came and said the coach is now giving you the option to call plays. this year the same thing occurs minus the 2k insider.

                          2) get the ball inside to post players for easy baskets. my player is all about momentum. get assists steals blocks easy high percentage shots and your teammates will hit shots. i had a my player on the magic and it was very very fun. also learn your teammates individual plays. play with run plays on. and actually run the plays.
                          3) rebounding is soooo easy. if you are a PG dont shoot the ball unless your team is in position and boxed out. if you throw up bricks and theres nobody there to rebound what do you expect. box out people and you will rebound better.
                          4) the first 2 season on myplayer are supposed to be hard your teamate chemistry is not there and you are gonna lose. ive had 7 different myplayers and the same result everytime. either request a trade to a better team or tough it out ive done both.

Re: My Player teams are terrible

It seems to me that a huge part of it is just getting your team chemistry up. I created a PG, was drafted by the Warriors (who incidentally are my favorite team). Now I know the Warriors aren't a very good team IRL, but... Much of my 1st season was just utterly horrible.

                            - Scoring. I had to do most of the scoring because nobody else could. Typical outing would have me putting in nearly half of the team's total points for the game. They would routinely miss wide open jumpers, easy layups in the paint, open shots under the basket, etc. It was hard to watch.

                            - It was impossible to get assists. Now part of that was due to the fact that they were bad shooters anyway, but it was partly due to the fact that half the time when I give them the dish for the open shot, they would just stand there and either wait juuuuust long enough before taking the shot to where I wasn't given the assist, OR they would kick out to somebody else and just refuse to take the shot altogether.

                            - Rebounding, or lack thereof, at both ends of the floor. Again and again I'm watching somebody from the other team drive into the paint and put up a finger roll, and then grab his own miss 3-4 times over our big men before eventually scoring.

                            - Ballhogging. Monte Ellis in particular. I'd pass him the ball and sometimes he'd just dribble until the shot clock expired. Other times, he'd take bad shots like drive into the paint and try to put in a layup with a 7 footer in his face. And more often than not, when I was open, I'd call for the pass and he would just flat out refuse to pass to me. When he was open and I passed to him, he would either refuse to shoot or he'd do the thing where he waited just long enough before taking the shot to where I wouldn't be credited with the assist. I was joking with a friend about I think Ellis hates me because it was as if he was actively trying his best to not get me any assists or points.

I guess those are the main points, but the thing is once I got our team chemistry up, these guys really started to rock. Suddenly our big men were making shots in the paint, we were grabbing rebounds, blocking shots, we were passing the ball around and playing like a real team.

We ended up making the playoffs as like the 7th seed I think, but went out in the first round in 5 games.

2nd season began and we were nearly unstoppable. Team chemistry is about 92 right now and amazingly we are tied for 1st in the west. That's a huge turnaround considering what we started out as. We are currently in a bit of a slump but the team is still playing very well. Can't win em all you know? And you know what, it's all the same personnel. Nothing has really changed other than Team Chemistry is way up over what it was last season.

I actually really like My Player mode. Usually with sports games I play a season and end up moving on to something else, but I can see myself playing this for quite awhile.

I agree, I think the first season is supposed to be rough. Either you tough it out or request a trade. I decided to tough it out because I like the Warriors.

Honestly, the first season hasn't ever been rough for me. On Pro-Sim with my 2 My Player's I've sustained, I've completely dominated the first year as a player and as a team. I had a SF for the Pacers and we were leading the conference heading into the final half month of the season 'til I got hurt. Then we sunk to 2nd place. Lost to the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. Won Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the year and almost an MVP.

My current SG for the Clippers is having a ridiculously good season as well. I'm averaging 30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals while shooting 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from downtown. My team is a league best 57 and 11. I think. We won 29 straight before the All-Star break glitch put me on the bench. Only lost to the Kings while I was benched but have now won 10 straight. All by double digits. Leading candidate for MVP and ROY. Team chemistry is in the high 90's.

It's all just not that fun though. I've seen too many poster dunks and putback dunks by guys that have no business throwing down over people like DeAndre Jordan, Kenyon Martin, or Blake Griffin. Chris Paul plays like a run of the mill point guard. Chauncey Billups loves to shoot everything, same with Caron Butler. I feel like our defense is god awful, but it can't be that bad if we're doing so well. I've seen so many absurd up and unders and wide open guys that it feels like swiss cheese. I'm starting to see the same things I saw with my first My Player, in this one with the Clippers. Nobody is scoring but me. If they do score, it's off a wide open break or a dunk. Rarely ever from a set play.

I guess my point is, it's hard to really feel the distinction between My Player to My Player, at least in my experiences. I've had the 2 I've mentioned here, as well as a failed attempt at a PG and PF. I don't feel the individuality of the players at all, whether it be in my opponents or my teammates, I feel like they all play the same, despite the variety of rosters I've used in the mode. I've used both OS edited and 2k updated rosters but it's all the same.
