    5xfaster's Winnipeg Jets (NHL 12)

    5xfaster's Winnipeg Jets Dynasty
I'm a big Pittsburgh Penguins fan, but with their early departure from the playoffs (), I needed something to get me through the playoffs and to next year! So here we are. I've got some changes I want to make to the Jets, personnel wise, prior to the 2011-2012 season and those will be posted here in a few minutes. I'm planning on updating this thing game-by-game, because I plan on playing each game, but who knows, that may change as this thing evolves. Now, down to the details...

    Period Length: 9 minutes
    Difficulty: All-Star
    GM Difficulty: Hard
Sliders: Starting with Tazer19's All-Star Sliders (but with the V1.01 Tuner)
    Starting Point: 2011-2012 Regular Season

Winnipeg Hires New GM To Lead Franchise
    WINNIPEG-
The Winnipeg Jets have hired a new GM to lead their franchise in their first NHL season since 1996! Mike Dipyatic, of Pittsburgh, PA, was named GM today, leading to excitement around the city. He released this statement earlier today:

"The city of Winnipeg is what hockey should stand for: crazy, diehard fans and good, hard-played hockey. I'm proud to have been named the GM for this great franchise, and I plan on bringing a great product onto the ice each and every game for this city. I plan on bringing in world-class talent that will bring us into contention for the Stanley Cup. I will not disappoint!"

Dipyatic also acknowledged that there would be change coming to Winnipeg prior to the preseason. More updates to come.

      TRADE ANNOUNCED!
Also, preseason results and opening night rosters/depth charts revealed!
WINNIPEG - When new Jets GM Mike Dipyatic said changes were coming to Winnipeg, he wasn't kidding. Today, Dipyatic traded Nik Antropov, along with Winnipeg's first and second round 2013 Draft Picks to Pittsburgh in exchange for Jordan Staal. Dipyatic expressed the want to get younger down the middle of his lineup, and adding the 23 year old Center certainly does that.

"Jordan will not only add a great defensive presence to our forward lines, but he's also coming into his own as a scorer. I believed that over the past few years, Jordan has shown that he is ready to be a Starting center in the league, and here in Winnipeg he'll have the change to prove that."

Meanwhile, in the preseason, Winnipeg went 2-0-2 with wins coming against the Florida Panthers (5-3) and Carolina Hurricanes (4-1), and overtime losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning (5-4) and Washington Capitals (3-2). Newcomer Jordan Staal and Andrew Ladd shared the team lead in points with 5, and Staal also took the lead in assists with 4. Ladd led the team with 5 goals, with 3 of them coming on the powerplay. The Jets now are preparing for their first regular season home game and first regular season NHL action since 1997 when they take on the Montreal Canadiens on October 9. This is the opening night depth chart, see you all at the home opener!

Thoughts: We simply didn't play well enough during this game. We need to get more shots on goal, and we need to capitalize on powerplay opportunities. Overall, not a bad performance, but not good enough. We've got 3 days off before traveling to Chicago.

Thoughts: We were horrible in the first two periods of this game, just putrid. Chicago pretty much had their way with us. We pulled it together in the third period, but by then it was too late. Pavelec couldn't stop anything and we may need to look into starting Chris Mason if Pavelec doesn't get his act together.

(On a side note, I think I'm going to switch my sliders up. The game just doesn't feel right on these settings. I'll note if/when I get things right. Hope you guys are enjoying.)

Thoughts: It was great to see some offense from our guys tonight. We still had some defensive breakdowns, but to see our offense step up tonight and put the puck in the net was great. It doesn't look like our first line (Ladd-Staal-Wellwood) is our best line right now, as the second line (Kane-Burmistrov-Wheeler) is really playing well. Might shake things up and put either Kane or Wheeler on the top line with Staal and Ladd. Big matchup with the Penguins on the 17th at home.

(This game played a little too one sided in my favor this time, so there's gonna be some more tweaking of the sliders, possibly after the Pittsburgh game. I don't know if it was that the sliders were tilted in my favor, or Phoenix is really that bad. I'll play the Pittsburgh game with these sliders and then tweak some things.)

Like the move to get Staal, and it doesn't surprise me that the Pens moved him (though you initiated the deal) since they could get a lot of return for a strong young player like Staal. Keep up the good work.

Good start, I'll be following. A pretty fair deal to pick up Staal. About time he broke out and could be a top 2 center on most teams.

Thoughts: Our powerplay was on FIRE tonight. 3 out of 4 on the PP, with 2 of those goals coming on the 5 minute powerplay after Crosby's game misconduct for checking from behind. It was a wishy-washy call in my eyes, but we'll certainly take the win tonight. This was a great Pittsburgh team, and I think had Crosby not been out of the game for over half the time, it may have been a different outcome. Those 3 PP goals turned out to be the difference. Thinking about shuffling the lines up a bit to put Wheeler with Staal and Ladd. We'll see. Big game with Toronto coming up next.

(Still messing with the sliders a bit on my end. The game played pretty well, though. Was odd to see Crosby, of all people, get tagged with the game misconduct for checking from behind. Interesting. If you guys have anything you want to see, suggestions, even personnel moves, let's hear it. I'm always up for suggestions. Thanks for reading!)

Thoughts: Not much to say here. We played decently defensively, but our offense wasn't even in the building tonight. We can't seem to get production from our top line of Ladd - Staal - Wheeler. The offense just isn't there. Also, Dustin Byfuglien will be out for about a week with a mild concussion suffered tonight. May go out and see what's on the trade market, as I feel like we could use some offensive help on our blue line at the moment anyway.

Thoughts - Finally, Jordan Staal made his presence known with 2G (1 SH) and an assist, along with being a +3 on the night. A pretty dominating performance by the man brought here to be the number one guy. Also, not to be outdone, Ondrej Pavelec posted a shutout on 26 saves. Good team effort tonight.

Also, Winnipeg signed veteran defenseman Bryan McCabe to a 1-year deal worth $2.825 million. Dipyatic on the deal: "I think bringing in a veteran such as Bryan will do a lot to get another strong veteran presence in the locker room. He's a solid defenseman that will offer some offense at times, maybe even play the point on the powerplay every once in a while. We're happy to have him come on board." McCabe is set to join the team on October 22 when they host the 5-1-1 Carolina Hurricanes.

Thoughts - Aside from the second period, we played some pretty good hockey. Letting up a 4 goal period really doesn't give you much chance to win, however. Going to have to go back to the drawing board after this one. Gotta play more consistent hockey. Blake Wheeler went down with a bruised foot at the end of the first period today, but returned to the game. In post-game evaluations, it was discovered he's got a pretty deep bone bruise that will effect his skating for about a week, so we're going to go ahead and sit him and allow him to get some rest. Patrice Cormier has been called up from St. John's to play on the fourth line.

In other news, Dustin Byfuglien is set to return from being sidelined with a concussion on Monday against the New York Rangers (2-2-2). As a result, Grant Clitsome will be a healthy scratch.

                          TRADE ALERT
WINNIPEG - Mike Dipyatic pulled the trigger on another deal to bring athleticism to the Winnipeg Jets, trading away prospect Adam Lowry to Detroit for AHL two-way forward Chris Conner. Dipyatic was familiar with Connor's work from his time in Pittsburgh, and fellow former Penguin Jordan Staal attested to the 27 year old winger's work ethic.

"It's great to have a hard working guy like Chris Conner come aboard our team. He's going to bring an energy and work ethic to this team that is hard to match up with from an opponent's standpoint. It'll be good to get him in here and work him into the lineup."

At the moment, Conner is rehabbing a fractured ankle but is expected to be fully recovered by early November, when he should be worked into the AHL lineup to get acclimated before being brought up to the NHL club.

Thoughts - It feels like our team is finally starting to hit its stride. We're starting to put pucks in the net, as is shown by the 52 shots on goal we had tonight. I really like the first line combination of Ladd-Staal-Kane, as they put together a lot of nice scoring chances tonight. Good overall team effort tonight. Big game against the Flyers coming up next.

Thoughts - Another big win tonight against a deceptively good Philadelphia team. Pavelec was on his head all night, saving pretty much anything that came near him. On the down side, Evander Kane took a dirty hit from Braden Coburn, separating his shoulder on the play. He'll be out through the first week of December, so we'll keep a monitor on his progress. It's a shame, as he was one of the real offensive bright spots on our team. Looks like we'll have to look to our AHL boys to step in, unless something better presents itself in free agency. We shall see.
