Re: Football After Frank | Ohio Bobcats Dynasty (NCAA '12)

Well, it's been awhile since I've felt up to posting a dynasty. Some of it's because of feeling like making certain posts is out of necessity rather than enjoyment. Though mostly because of not having slider to give an adequate and realistic challenge.

However, now, after finding SECElite's zero based Heisman sliders we've got what I think is a great dynasty going. At times we trounce mediocre teams, other times we get upset. To beat really good teams (BCS schools) we need our try-hards on for all four quarters. So after a few seasons of playing this dynasty I'm ready to get back to posting the results.

As I eluded to, getting burned on on posting results is an issue so expect this to be a basic dynasty. Here's what I intend to post:
    • MAC Pre-Season Preview (Division Rankings)
    • Ohio Bobcats Outlook (Top Players and Quick Preview)
    • Simple Game Recaps (Score, Team Stats, and Top Performers)
    • MAC Updates (2-4 Times Per Season)
    • Recruiting Updates (2-4 Times Per Season)
    • MAC Season Review (Standings and Bowl Games)
    • Ohio Bobcats Review (Team Stats and Top Performers)
    • Recruiting Wrap-Up

So, expect this dynasty to be focused primarily around Ohio U. and the MAC. Since I don't expect to be on the national stage, I don't see the point of including things like the Top 25 Polls or Heisman Race.

      Football After Frank

Dynasty Back Story: We started out this dynasty by simulating five seasons (2011-2015) so that every player in the game was CPU generated. We have done some re-alignment across the nation, most concerned with us is that Marshall is back in the MAC while Buffalo and Temple have been moved out.

For the first three seasons we let the CPU recruit while only setting high, medium, or low needs for the positions from year-to-year. We recruited as normal for the final two simulated seasons. Since then we've completed four seasons (2016-2019) and are starting up our fifth campaign. Being that we created a new Head Coach once we started playing I think it's fitting, Football After Frank.

            Ohio Bobcats 2020 Season Preview

            OFFENSE

Brian Woodard returns for his fifth season as Head Coach and returns with his three Running Back downhill rushing attack. This year's Backfield may be the most talented during Woodard's tenure so far. With experience returning on the O-Line this team can stay in many games by controlling the clock.

            QB Paul McIntosh (Sr)
McIntosh has yet to put it all together during his first two years as a starter. He threw for over 2,000 yards and ran for another 800 yards a season ago. However, he has trouble consistently making the tough throws which leads to over throwing Receivers or worse, interceptions. The pre-season All-MAC QB has the pieces for a fantastic senior campaign.

            TB Clarence Holley (Sr)
Holley was buried on the depth chart at Iowa and transferred after spending three years trying to find some meaningful carries. The speedster finds himself the go-to man and will certainly get his share of meaningful carries with the Bobcats.

            TB David Carter (Jr)
Carter played second fiddle to 1,500 yard rusher Terrelle Johnson last season and will once again be the second option in the three-headed rushing attack. He brings more speed to the table, but does have the ability to run between the tackles.

            TB/KR Matt Davis (Sr)
Brian Woodard's Special Teams are usually among the nation's elite. Two seasons ago star Michael Goolsby ran away with the nation Kick Returner Award by returning five kickoffs for scores. Davis, while not as impressive as Goolsby, did sustain a 30 yard average and two scores, which brought Ohio U. their second Kick Returner Award. Davis' quickness is his best asset for making it a repeat this season.

            LT Greg Cooke (Sr)
Cooke was an instant impact as a freshman, starting on the right side. However an off-season injury caused slow progression during the next season's camp and he was beat out for the starting job. After moving to McIntosh's blind side, he's settled in as a reliable blocker and garnered 2nd Team All-MAC honors a season ago.

            DEFENSE

Ohio runs a conservative Cover 3, 4-3 defense. Though being in the MAC will require a good deal of Nickel packages. The Bobcats lost seven starters this past off-season. Aside from a few play makers this defense is very mediocre.

            DT Michael Hargrove (Sr)
Hargrove, a returning 1st Team All-MAC selection, is the leader of the defense. With four new starters in the front seven, he'll need to once again have an All-MAC effort plugging holes and stopping the run.

            SLB Willis Gordon (So)
Gordon was a late addition to the Bobcats recruiting class in 2019. The Georgia native wound up winning the starting role out of camp and hasn't looked back. After a solid season, Gordon will be looked upon to be a key component of the defense.

            CB Brad Tremblay (Sr)
Tremblay is the only returning starter in the Secondary. He's garnered pre-season 2nd Team All-MAC recognition. He may be best remembered for his late interception against Miami last season, sealing Woodard's first victory over the Redhawks.

                  Ohio Bobcats 2020 Recruiting Update

Bobcats reeling in big time recruits

It's not usual for Ohio University to draw the attention of big name recruits. However, that's exactly the case during the 2020-21 recruiting season. With Ohio set to lose 15 starters (17 players in total) prospects from around the nation are lining up for their chance to play early and play often.

"I have no problem playing guys as a true freshman, but I won't ever guarantee a starting spot," says Brian Woodard. "I will ,however, be straight up with recruits and if it looks like they could have a chance at playing during their first year then I'll be honest with them. Of course that entails that they come to fall camp prepared and eager to earn the playing time."

This has definitely been the case as seen with Defensive Ends Brandon Andrews (last year) and Dwayne Bennett (this season). And when there's a potential starting spot up for grabs the Bobcats have seen four-star recruits come out of nowhere to join the recruiting class. Last year Willis Gordon was the first true freshman to start under coach Woodard and this year Receiver Derrick Grant won a starting role. Could next year mean more true freshman starters?

                  DT Mike Moore (Amherst, OH)
Moore is the first blue chip recruit to come to Athens in, well, probably ever. The in-state and #2 DT prospect overall committed over the phone as soon as coach Woodard extended him a scholarship offer. At 6-5 277 Moore could stand to bulk up a bit, but with his strong interior run stuffing ability he will more than likely wind up in the DT rotation (if not winning a starting job).

                  FS J.J. Waters (Marion, OH)
Waters quickly bought on to Defensive Coordinator Andy Pitts' pitch to turn him into a ball hawking Linebacker. Though Waters is very athletically gifted, he doesn't have the best technique in coverage. He can get away with it in high school, but not in FBS college football. Look for Waters to make some noise during fall camp.

Michael Hargrove has racked up a lot of sacks this year, but none bigger than this one on fourth down.

                        Ohio Bobcats 2020 Recruiting Update

Shaping up to be a great class

The big time recruits keeping piling in. The Bobcats have another top Safety prospect as well as an Elite 11 Quarterback and a Running Back, that surprisingly chose Ohio over powerhouses Penn State and Alabama. This class could shape up to be the best ever for the green and white.
"I like the academics and feel like I'll have a solid chance to play early. My two top priorities just didn't match up as well with some of the bigger, BCS schools." -- Kevin Jackson
                        QB Josh White (Saline, MI)
A pocket passer, White isn't the usual Quarterback at Ohio U. He's not as flat-footed as most pro style gunslingers, so the option could still be, well, an option for the offense. It's still likely we'll see the Bobcats transition to more of a shotgun offense during White's time "under center".

                        TB Kevin Jackson (Tonawanda, NY)
Jackson is a big, bruising back (6-0 223). However he doesn't have the strength you'd expect from a guy of his size. He can run in between the Tackles, but he does have enough speed and elusiveness to run outside as well. He may have to wait his turn, but eventually he'll get many chances to be the go-to guy.

                        SS Arthur McKenzie (Girard, OH)
Like J.J. Waters, he too is a position change to Linebacker candidate. McKenzie is pretty good in coverage, but hits and tackles more like a Linebacker. His versatility could wind up making him a fantastic player.
