    Do hot/cold streaks matter?

so players go on hot/cold streaks all the time in this game. I alway play the guys on hot streaks because that is the logical thing to do. But i noticed that there is no ratings changes.

If it does make a significant difference, would it be smart to call up guys on hot streaks in the minors because the streaks carry over from league to league?

    Thanks

I know cold streaks are a btch. Last year I had Michael young on a cold streak literally all yr. he had that blue cold meter on him all yr and finished the year batting .226.

They certainly seem to have an effect if you use Timing Hitting. My guys on hot streaks absolutely rope the ball, while my guys on cold streaks can never make solid contact, even if timed fairly well.

I'm finding this out as well sadly. I have Matt Kemp batting ~.230 at the moment and he's missing 91mph 4 seamers right down the pipe even with perfect timing!

I don't notice that much of a difference with hitting, but the difference re: pitching and hot / cold / neutral streaks is huge...

Once I got my sliders set, I noticed that it was tough to pitch (as it should be) with a "neutral" starter...good starts / poor outings, etc...

When a guy gets "Hot", however...it's really a pleasure...

"Cold" is just a straight up nightmare...

          "Chuck and Duck", indeed...

I hear that prolonged hot/cold streaks by younger guys in the minors will increase/decrease their potential by one letter at the end of the month. It doesn't seem to happen every time, however.

Are these streaks caused automatically by the CPU or are they caused based on how you as the gamer control the individual player?

The latter. I've found that if you are doing well in your last 5 games (or maybe 10?), in one or more of the triple crown categories, you get a hot streak symbol. For example I had a guy hit like 6 home runs and he got a hot streak symbol, even though thsoe were his only hits. He was only batting like .260 in the period, but because he hat a lot of RBI's and slugging, I guess he was considered "hot."

You can check the "who's hot" section and it's a pretty good indication of what's going on, and who's about to get a hot streak symbol, etc...

Keep in mind that it's a rolling 5 game period, not simply a re-check every 5 games. You can have a guy with a cold streak symbol, he goes 5 for 5, and all of a sudden his average for the last 5 games is now .400, so he will get the hot streak symbol probably after the next game.

As for whether they matter? I have to say they do. I mean in my franchise Jeff Keppinger got hot almost immediately after opening day, and he literally stayed hot through June. His BA for the season is .350

Evan Longoria went on a cold streak almost at the start of the season, and I had problems getting any kind of consistency out of him. Obviously Jeff Keppinger is not as good of a hitter as Evan Longoria, both in real life and in The Show. Yet for some reason Jeff Keppinger was more productive.

It's not like Longo was just unlucky and lining out and stuff, either. He was piling up strike outs, while Keppinger was just continuing to come through. Keppinger is injured now, and Longoria has long since pulled out of the slump.

Maybe there's some deep psychological stuff going on but I'd be really surprised if a dev said that a player's previous performance has absolutely no effect on their future ability, and that players don't get any penalties or bonuses from these things.

Definitely makes you take into consideration those "Morale" meters now, too.

So basically the "CPU Forced Cold Streak" is a falsie?
And in fact is a "Gamer Forced Cold Streak"?

Yea I'm pretty sure it is based on your stats. Therefore if you play every game the streaks will be caused by you. I have had times before when 7/9 of my hitters are on hot streaks or all of my starters are on hot streaks. I have also had the opposite when I'm not playing well.

Just so we're clear, there is no code programmed into the game that is going to cause my players to suddenly go into a cold streak regardless of how I play them.

Just as the non-existent "comeback code", a "cold streak code" does not exist.

                          Correct?

I would agree with this statement. I've never had a player not hitting pop up on a hot streak, or a guy who had been raking not wind up on one. No funny instances here yet. I finally fixed my freezing issue, so I'll have a lot of played games to confirm here real soon -- but I think you are 100% correct.

                              Thanks.

I actually already know the answers to my questions.
I'm just trying to clarify it for the doubters and conspiracy theorists!
