    Foul Ball Curves

Anyone else notice this too, that when you hit a ball and it goes foul, it always seems to have this huge curve so that the AI catches it.

It's not the wind, cause I checked and it's always at like 5mph and stuff.

I hit a foul ball, the shadow shows it going straight into the stands, then suddenly it make a huge 'J' out of nowhere and hooks back into fair territory(right at the wall) and the AI catches it. I've even seen the shadow go straight along the foul line(in places with small foul territories) for 90% of the time it's in the air, and then out of nowhere, right before it drops, it hooks so much and manages to hook right at the fielder.

It's probably the ball spin from the new ball physics that might be a bit overdone.

I have not seen anything that was headed into the stands suddenly curve back into play. There is some curve to them but nothing like that. If you are seeing that much then I agree with turning down the wind slider.

I turned the wind slider down and haven't had this problem anymore.

my wind slider is at zero and I still get these types of foul outs.

its annoying because its severely unrealistic, but doesn't deter me from playing the game every day for several hours.

i still manage to break records with my RttS guy (highest marks are 120 HR in a single season, i play on rookie with zone hitting)

At which Wind slider setting do you guys stop seeing this effect? I'm at Wind = 4 and basically all pop flies in the foul territory look like this.

                  Re: Foul Ball Curves

Not that I see alot of foul balls with tons of curve on them, but I am seeing alot more foul balls that are RIGHT on the fence line. Like, they will be going way foul, and suddenly slow down and bend slightly right back into play.

Not that it's a problem, I just see it a lot more than I have in the past. I am betting it's the physics.

I've been mostly on Vita (i.e., no patch) but I see the same thing while I've been playing on patched PS3... (my goodness the game is soooooooo good on PS3......)

I actually see what the OP describes on most towering pop ups in foul territory, regardless of wind strengths. Yes, wind should always be a factor for this kind of batted ball, but what the OP means to mention is a different kind of ball movement...

Basically, as any popup in foul territory falls down, it tends to drift *toward the foul line* at the last second. The reason why it does so is because such a towering foul ball tends to have a very high backspin (i.e., the batter swung under), so this is actually expected to happen even in real life...

(In fact this is the reason why the catcher is always instructed to face toward backstop when you go after such a fly ball... so that when he catches, the ball comes toward him rather than running away which would happen if the catcher faces the field.)

So I think the ball behavior is a reflection of how the game actually implements physics correctly. What I'm not sure personally is whether it should be so emphasized at the last second of the ball flight.

I think the OP is referring to the same thing.

This happened to me in rtts before I had saved a video sadly I deleted it the other day or I would have posted it. But what happened was I popped up down first basing ball was in bullpen and falling normally then it just moved like 10 feet sideways in half a second for an out it was completely ridiculous. That was most extreme example I've ever seen an obviously had to bra glitch of some kind.

But it does some on regular pop ups in foul territory when I hit them they always stay in play and CPU pop ups always drift out...it's probably me just thinking it but I'm sure if I kept track it would be like 3:1 ratio.

I see this too, even at home games in Tampa Bay, where there is no wind. the ball definitely seems to take weird angles. I'm kind of wondering if the ball is really moving that way though, or if it's just the ball's shadow itself that is poorly animated.

                          Re: Foul Ball Curves

I have two things to say about the wind in this game:

                          1) The wind slider does not affect the severity of the ball's flight alteration in the air, it only affects how severe the wind might be that day. In other words, if your slider is set to 1, your wind gauge will always read around 0-3 MPH... whereas if you have it set up around 9, your wind gauge might even read up to 25 MPH at times. But 5 MPH will always be 5 MPH.

                          2) The wind's compass in this game is off by 90 degrees clockwise. So if the game says the wind is blowing out to straightaway right field at 10 MPH, it's actually really blowing out to straightaway left field at 10 MPH.

                          Just so ya'll are aware.

                            Correct.

The arrow indicator is wrong, the one to go by is the wind description in the Game Log.
