How will madden 13 represent QB Brandon Weeden far as age
We all know that most quarterbacks go down in ratings when they hit about 32 years old, with Weeden being 28 how will madden represent him in the best way for him to be able to play as long as luck or RG3 would play??? with that said could he possibly retire to early in the game????Tags: None -
Re: How will madden 13 represent QB Brandon Weeden far as age
His body hasn't taken the physical toll that a quarterback his age has generally been exacted, so I would say his injury rating should be higher.
This is, unfortunately, assuming that they would change the injury system to allow for decay due to injuries (see OOTP or more famously NFL Head Coach) -
Re: How will madden 13 represent QB Brandon Weeden far as age
He would be 40+ if he played as long as Luck or RG3. So in terms of realism, I would hope he would not be able to play that long. Just as in real life, the dude will see decline when he hits his 30's (how late in 30's idk)Comment

Re: How will madden 13 represent QB Brandon Weeden far as age
I get that but given the circumstances I believe it would be unfair to the players who play franchise mode with the browns, here u have a quarterback who could play maybe 8-10 season regardless of his age but yet in madden it may change that to more like 3-5 season just don't sit with me all to well considering he is a 1st rd pick and possibly a franchise quarterbackComment

Re: How will madden 13 represent QB Brandon Weeden far as age
But he realistically only has 3-5 years. The browns know that and they hope he can be great for 3-5 years. After that they have to draft again for the future. To me that's the price you pay with him. I don't have a problem if he retires at 35-36 in franchise mode."Accept victory and defeat in equanimity"Comment

Aww... Browns fans are so cute
Seriously though, he'll probably get to play one contract with the Browns in real life. Maybe two. He hasn't taken the beating, but his body has still aged. Just because he hasn't played football his entire life doesn't mean he'll be capable to play into his 40s."I hope that someday we will be able to put way our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people." Re: How will madden 13 represent QB Brandon Weeden far as age
If you notice, previous older rookies like Danny Watkins generally progress for the first 3 years even with their age, and generally don't decline immediately. There is clearly something coded to factor years played and age (if only slightly).
Additionally, quarterbacks regress more slowly in their 30s in M12 - I see Eli Manning actually gain rating in virtually every first year (he is 30/31) and often in some other years. Again there is definitely something coded for quarterbacks to allow for minor progress or lack of regression in the 30s up to a point.
My sample size is pretty significant at this point (hundreds of franchise seasons).
With this in mind, I think Weeden will probably physically decline a bit starting at 31-33, and the current system does a reasonable job of simulating that.Comment

Its not EAs fault the browns drafted a 29 year old QB in the first roundI get that but given the circumstances I believe it would be unfair to the players who play franchise mode with the browns, here u have a quarterback who could play maybe 8-10 season regardless of his age but yet in madden it may change that to more like 3-5 season just don't sit with me all to well considering he is a 1st rd pick and possibly a franchise quarterbackComment

But the progression/regression issue is their fault and that is what this is centered around.
A lot of outlets are saying that Weeden wants to have his career parallel that of Kurt Warner. Warner was a Franchise QB until his last season; and I don't think he regressed that much over the course of his career as a QB that started in his late 20s, early 30s.Comment

See Warner's years with the Giants...as far as his time with the Cardinals the arm strength he had in STL wasn't there anymore. Every commentator/analyst applauded his accuracy and decision making, and his willingness to wait for the deeper routes to develop. But the progression/regression issue is their fault and that is what this is centered around.

As far as Weeden, you can't have your cake and eat it too, fans clamor for realism, but if a 28-29 year old rookie regresses faster than a 21-22 yr old rookie (RGIII/Luck) there's a problem, smdh. Be glad you have a QB on that team finally and ride the wave before it crashes on the shore

Well, I'm pretty sure EVERY player in the NFL wants his career to parallel that of the greats and playing until late 30's or early 40's, but guess what. It rarely happens. But the progression/regression issue is their fault and that is what this is centered around.

You can't expect Madden to modify its whole system just to peace Browns fans who want their QB to play as long as other qb's coming to the league this year.Comment

Why would it be "unfair"?I get that but given the circumstances I believe it would be unfair to the players who play franchise mode with the browns, here u have a quarterback who could play maybe 8-10 season regardless of his age but yet in madden it may change that to more like 3-5 season just don't sit with me all to well considering he is a 1st rd pick and possibly a franchise quarterback
Plus, it's not a given. Drew Brees played until 38 in my franchise...with a 90 rating. He QUIT with a 90.
What likely might/should happen is Weeden is pretty much going to be developed. Arguably, he might should have the best rookie rating...but very little upside. Meanwhile a RG3 or Luck or Tannehil may be more raw, but have much more upside.
Or maybe Weeden is just as raw and the Browns made a bad pick in taking him with a 1st. Bad picks do happen.Last edited by KBLover; 05-04-2012, 03:15 PM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: How will madden 13 represent QB Brandon Weeden far as age
Last year, I created "me" in Madden as a QB, as a rookie, at my age (32), A rating. He stayed at a high level all the way until the day he retired, at the age of 42. This happened in Madden 11 as well.Comment
