Go back and read the reviews and play the games of the “Golden Age” of NCAA Football, that being (in my opinion) from 2003-06. I loved 2004 and DB play (due to it being to easy to too many receivers getting open) was terrible in that game, and according to several reviews, I was not alone here. So what did EA do in 2005, they created the psychic defensive backs. In 06, my favorite game of the PS2 era, brought forth super linebackers. These are the same so-called problems that we have seen for almost a decade and we act like this stuff has never happened until the past few years. There were lots of things messed up in the “Golden Age” on yet we act like those games set the standard for NCAA Football which is not fair for the current gen-series. The video here is no different that those classic games regarding how players act and react on the field so stop complaining about it. You will always find something wrong with it so why complain?

    • Regarding commentary/studio updates/and anything regarding sounds and visuals. Don’t complain about “dead air time”. Again go back and play 03-06. Dead air in abundance. Studio updates and bottom line tickers are awesome features this year and you know it. It just brings more immersion to your dynasty and the game in general. Are you that tore up that Reece Davis doesn’t sound perfect? Just be thrilled that it is finally in the game. Trust me, you will enjoy Dynasty mode more with studio updates and the ticker alone.

    • Another thing regarding visuals: stop complaining about the game only having 35 helmets, not enough length in the socks, “wrong” facemasks, etc. You can not tell the difference between all of that stuff when you are actually playing the game. If you are that tore up over why EA went with Haynes underwear instead of Fruit of the Loom for the players to wear then there is no way to please you as a gamer. (joking about the underwear but I think I proved my point

    • If you are not excited about the removal of “Roulette Recruiting” alone than no one can please you as a gamer. This alone is enough reason to get really excited about Dynasty mode this year. And I did not even mention the new scouting feature.

    • After reading on the Gaming Tailgate about how they tweaked the Spread Option (you know what I am talking about) this will complete change the way we play NCAA Football. I have a good feeling that the Spread Option will effective. Just don’t complain about a certain aspect of gameplay being too effective.

    • BOTTOM LINE: Stop requesting a complete overhaul of every single thing in the game. There were no major overhauls in the “Golden Age” games yet everybody treats them as “perfection”. You are putting EA in a no win situation with that mentality and expectation.
The reason people talk about 06 so much was because the development team introduced so many new features that were *gasp* well implemented. In season recruiting, impact players (a little over done), special teams trickeration, decrease in suction allowed for more wide open gameplay in terms of navigating thru traffic to break a big play, and the player models and stadiums got an upgrade as well. 05 and 06 were two completely different games. In my opinion 07 was better because of the increase in the variety of the recruits, formation specific audibles, and the fact that they brought the mini juke back that was mysteriously taken out of 06. It felt like football tho. I could counter blitzes by changing protections at the line. I could play to my qbs strengths and players felt different.

There were two instances the LB's did what they should have, the play where the LB dropped the INT, he ran with the receiver/TE through his zone and defended the play. The other was away from the play where a nickel DB pressed a slot WR before backpedaling into zone.

The rest of the time, it was a crap shoot on where the defensive players were going. It reminded me of the years when hook zones were broken and they essentially left the middle of the field open.

I wish I had the ability to break it down screen by screen but when I pause, the play button blocks the screen.
I saw your posts. I just wanted to hope they didn't ruin pass coverage.
This was my fear when they first talked about read and react. As much as I hate how the defense reacts to passes in '12, I realized that without eyes in the back of their head or super linebackers, there would be NO pass defense.

What do mean in terms of variety of recruits and I don't remember formation audibles in 07. How did you like the new return camera in that game. You got me interested in playing 07 again lol. I played so much of 06 that I never really played a whole lot of 07. If I remember correctly the only thing I didn't like about 07 was the CPU defense would call Dime alot when I was in the I or something similar and vice versa when I was in 4-wide and they would run a 4-3. Did you notice the same thing? Thanks.

Trust me, I can give you a laundry list of things I did not like about NCAA 12, but since actually gameplay is what makes or breaks a game for me I did not find too much wrong with the gameplay itself. I have just come to the conclusion to not expect perfection with any NCAA Football game. Can EA do better? Uh yeah. It just seems that nobody is happy about anything with the series anymore. My guess is that the hardest thing to change in a sports game is the physics part of it which is why you see most series look and feels roughly the same over a long period of time.

Just because people can find something to complain about, means that they shouldn't? That makes no sense. People want to play a good college football game that immerses them in the sport, not a game that makes them want to rage because of the lack of proper gameplay mechanics, or poor presentation, or inaccurate and outdated equipment.

If we just accepted everything as is and never complained or critiqued or expressed their malcontent, there would be no reason for innovation or progress.

I'm still reserving my judgment for when I play the game, as I'm on the fence about the game right now.

I would give my right leg for NCAA Football to be the ultimate football experience but it looks like that is not happening anytime soon. My rant is basically an "I give up complaining because EA never hears us so why bother" speech. It may not sound like it but my rant is my last breath dealing with EA if that makes sense.

It irks me a little when some people think fans are complaining just for the sake of complaining. Or that our frustration with the series is really just an expectation of 'perfection'.

The PS2 NCAA games weren't perfect by any means, but they sure were a come up from the PS1/Genesis NCAA games. There was a huge difference, and that allowed me to be immersed for plenty of years.

But the core gameplay hasn't changed. In fact, plenty of nuances have gotten WORSE this gen, like running animations, momentum, and colors.

We haven't gotten anything that truly felt innovative or even creative when it's come to this series. It doesn't have to be perfect, but can it at least be progressive? People talk so much about the PS2 games because at least they represented a change from the previous implementation of football/sports games. At least it seemed that EA was trying. And hell, the player movement of last gen may be worth more than everything EA has given us this gen, despite the issues that were present on last gen.

I'm a frustrated and exhausted fan of this series. It feels like the DEV team either has no sense of what the community wants, or no understanding of how to do it. And maybe this is EA's model and not the dev team, but it's frustrating that as a fan I know EA has to get every new feature RIGHT the first time around, or it will be a failure. That's what disappoints me about the studio updates.

It's as if every year, EA says 'let's put a back of the box level feature in the game that the community has asked for', so they could scratch something off the list, but when we actually play the feature, it's like not having it at all.

It's like me going to a restaurant and saying "I want a nice, juicy, tender steak,' and the waiter bringing me a burnt, impossible to chew, overcooked, poor quality piece of steak. They'll say to me 'i got what you asked for,' but I'll be like 'but this sucks. I don't want this."

They gave us Coaching Carousel, but it's poorly implemented. I can FORGIVE it 'not being perfect' the first year it's in the game, but then they don't even touch it the next year?

They give us teambuilder, but don't even touch it in the next years? And then a new feature they give us (studio updates) don't even work with teambuilder teams? Damn, makes me want to do team builder.

With that track record, it's as if I already know the in-studio updates won't be updated next year or the year after. So the choppy first year iteration of the feature is what we'll have for the remainder of the series this gen.

I've also lost all confidence in EA even being up front with their customers. I hate to say it, but I even feel like they are flat out lying to their customers.

Every year I read a blog or watch a webcast or like a facebook or whatever connect with the community feature they are trying, and the things on the blog never seem to translate to being on the game.

Remember this from the 2012 hype off-season.

                          <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/iVCiOp__oLw" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="560"></iframe>

And then NCAA 12 was released, and the sound was horrible. The crowd didn't react properly at all. No cheering from the crowd on a pick 6 from the home team. Late cheers after big plays. Monotone crowd noise. Just horrible.

And to insult me, the NCAA team laughs about it this year talking about how bad the sound was in previous games, but then they say 'but this year, we really did improve the sound. We recorded real life games!)

But...But...they said the same thing in NCAA 12?

And when I finally do get a gameplay video for 13, the sound is again, horrible. Late reactions. No reactions at all. Monotone. All I can do is sigh at this point.

NCAA has no more credibility with me when they announce that they fixed or improved something. Those blogs, webcast, etc are fluff and hardly ever play as good as they read/sound.

I'm not saying the customer should ever take everything a company tells them as gospel, but if you tell me for two years that you improved something, but I can't tell the tangible difference both years, and you laugh about it and basically say one of those years sucked? Yeah, forget grain of salt. Your hype means nothing to me at all.

I just sort of laughed at all of the

posts I saw from posters in the blogs and webcast thread. I'm like 'are you REALLY taking this at face value? You really believe everything you are reading is going to work like it does in your head?"

But I used to be with them, before I finally became fed up with being lied to and disappointed.

I can't even get excited from the blogs and threads that community members that EA invites to help fine tune the game make. I hate to say it, but even those things seem like an add-on of the EA hype. I'm just tired of reading how improved things are, and then when the game is released, people say 'well this wasn't the build I played back in April."

Sucks that I've become this jaded and fed up with everything with this series.

The little things like better colors, stat overlays, player interaction, replay angles, neutral site games, socks, in-gave save, seem like things that would at least help justify purchasing the new stale game over the old stale game.

I've written off even seeing the big things (momentum, running animations, gameplay logic from cpu, ratings that matter, physics) this gen. So when people say I'm looking for perfection, nah. I'd actually be shutting up and giving them my money if they were giving me the little things.

I'll be doing my part to not buy new this year. I'll buy used, even if it doesn't save me any money. Aside from whine and moan in threads like this, that's about all I can do. I wanna play a football game. This is my only option.

The crowd DID sound better, but the volume was way too low. This absolutely needs to be addressed before release, the crowd needs to be a hell of a lot louder.

It looks like I'll be abandoning this franchise altogether. It's a shame, too, because NCAA Football was my favorite sports series last gen, but it has been my least favorite this gen. Like others have stated, this is NCAA '12 to me. Player movement, to me, is the most important aspect of immersive gameplay. The fact that the players seem to once again lack any weight or momentum just kills it for me. I would continue to feel like I'm playing an arcade game and not a simulation.
According to my old marketing professor, satisfaction is when product performance meets or exceeds consumer expectation.

It isn't even the volume of the crowd that is the underling issue. It's that the crowd doesn't behave like a crowd.

Absolute ZERO change in the crowd noise, even when the return man looked like he had room to break one. Same as 12.

How is it that the biggest pop from the crowd comes from AFTER the player is tackled instead of when the player picks up the first or breaks a tackle? The crowd didn't react at all to the play, just the tackle.

I personally don't even hear a difference in the actual crowd noise from 12 to 13, but these videos are compressed and maybe I just can't hear it from my computer speakers.

But based on what I can directly observe and analyze right now, the implementation of the crowd is just as bad as every other year. The atmosphere is still dead half of the time (which isn't really an issue with volume and more with AI) and the reactions are still wrong which kill the atmosphere of any big play.

NCAA 12 promised that when a play was developing, the crowd would react. Ball is in the air down the field, crowd reactions. Didn't happen. Not happening with 13 either.

If I turn the volume up to 100 on both my TV and the game, that still doesn't help the crowd sound any more realistic or alive. Just ends up becoming a bunch of noise that fades and rises at random.
