I'm trying not to sound too negative, because I do believe they deserve until at least gameplay videos release before we really come down on them for anything. I have to say though up until now I have been a little disappointed. Like you I was expecting a lot this year. New team, director, and the hush hush on everything got me curious on what might be going on behind closed doors. As news, clips, photo's, etc have been released I find myself seeing a lot of the same old same old Madden. While I do believe this will be the best madden yet, I think Madden has many years to go to be where it needs to be now.

Yeah if it wasn't for June 4th I'd be pretty disappointed so far too, but I trust Azure and the other guy Scott somethings opinion, both who have been big critics of Madden in the past, walked away impressed with what they saw.I'm trying not to sound too negative, because I do believe they deserve until at least gameplay videos release before we really come down on them for anything. Even with that aside, June 4th is still huge for me because we will get Franchise Mode news.Comment

Nantz sounds like ****. It's the same pieced together crap we've had for the last 10 years. Sounds no different to me, just a different guy reading it.
I usually end up turning it off after a season of franchise anyway, but still - this is not impressive in the slightest."I hope that someday we will be able to put way our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people." Jack HandyComment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
There was reportedly 82 hours or 9000 lines of commentary recorded for madden 13. These figures though remember are starting from a blank slate, so they are new lines but not lines that have been extended upon. Next year we should have all of these lines plus hopefully at least 9000 or more new lines, therefore doubling the scope of the commentary. One thing that concerns me with the commentary this year after listening to the blogtalkradio latest show (no.50) one of the guys said you have all these lines but will they all be triggered, which has me wondering if there will be a lot of repeated lines due to the commentary engine not triggering the whole range of recorded dialogue.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
I promise you it's going to sound better than what we have heard the last 10 years. Matt Bialosuknia said it's 99% unscripted, we have never had that in a madden game. There should be a ton of back and forth with Jim and Phil and I think people will feel better about it when they hear more of it. It's hard to judge anything after a few sporadic clips.Nantz sounds like ****. It's the same pieced together crap we've had for the last 10 years. Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
They said in the podcast that the commentary technology will be able to tell when a line was used last and it will put other lines in there so it doesn't get too repetitive. I like the direction the audio team is headed and have been impressed with Matt and our very own OS guy Chase's vision for the audio presentation for now and in the future. There was reportedly 82 hours or 9000 lines of commentary recorded for madden 13. 9:27 of that same clip listen to how Jim Nantz announces the first TD of the game, he has excitement and emotion in his voice tones. Go back and listen to the video of the game play and that is gone its just monotone all the way through.I haven't seen many on here who would agree. Most people have said they thought it was better in the newer clips from the podcast. Jim Nantz is not Gus Johnson, he doesn't get as excited as him, heck no other announcer does that I know of. The newer clips sound more balanced and more like Nantz does in real life, they don't have a clip of him calling a touchdown in the new clips from the podcast either. He does show emotion in the first clip on the 1st down call.
46:58 Antonio Brown 1st Down (just an example of Nantz' balanced approach)

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
There isn't a clip of Nantz calling a TD in the podcast though. I know you may get tired of hearing it's from an older build, but this is a new development team and until proven otherwise I believe this team really means WIP when they say it. There's noticeable improvement in the commentary and audio overall in the podcast clips compared to the video in the OP. For one thing Nantz shows more emotion in that McCoy first down clip in the podcast(newer build) then he does in the whole video during Touchdowns. That should tell you that he will show more emotion during Touchdowns and the video is just from an older build. There's noticeable improvement in the pregame intros in the webcast compared to the pregame intro in the video in the OP. They improved the scoreboard banner since the video was made too. If come E3 we are still having these discussions after seeing newer gameplay videos that's a different story. I don't expect that to happen though and until it does I'm not worried about "the older build" issue from the past.9:27 of that same clip listen to how Jim Nantz announces the first TD of the game, he has excitement and emotion in his voice tones. Along with my whole podcast(newer build) vs video (older build) theory, I've talked to people that played the game at CD for 70+ hours and they said the commentary is great and the best we have had since Michaels and Madden, but probably the best we've ever had in a Madden game. So yeah, I'm not really worried about a few clips of a video from an older build, when people who have actually played the game have let me know otherwise.Last edited by jpdavis82; 05-25-2012, 08:29 AM.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
I have to say, my initial reaction was "Nantz doesn't seem into it" when touchdowns were scored. I really just want some enthusiasm when a touchdown is scored, not a forced effort.
I swear, NFL commentators should take lessons from NHL commentators. And by the way, Nantz and Simms are one of my favorite teams.Last edited by Broncos86; 05-25-2012, 08:31 AM.Comment

Your reaching for nitpicks now..if your not impressed with the commentary in the 2nd video below at 20:23 Lesean McCoy picks up 1st down mark..there is something very wrong with you because i find it to be a HUGE improvement over last year's crazy no good for nothing commentary.9:27 of that same clip listen to how Jim Nantz announces the first TD of the game, he has excitement and emotion in his voice tones. Yes indeed...that commentary at the 22:23 mark is friggen awesome bro..this is the kind of commentary i always dreamed of madden having and its finally there..the ambient sounds in the background with the crowds like the real deal...finally!!I haven't seen many on here who would agree. Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
Gus has spunk, no doubt. He just didn't translate well to Madden. Listening to guys like Mike Emrick, John Kelly, Mike Haynes, and more, all these guys pump real energy and excitement into hockey. Then you listen to someone like Jack Edwards (Bruins play by play guy) and you can hear just how bad someone can be at play by play.
Maybe it's just the pace of the NFL vs. the NHL.Last edited by Broncos86; 05-25-2012, 08:37 AM.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
Yup..i gotta take my hat off for the devs and community peeps here at OSF that have helped improve the audio dept of madden..its really improved..it may not be perfect but from what i heard thus far..it is a huge improvement over last year..and that's all we can expect..right? I never expect perfection in a video game..but aiming towards perfection is the key..and i think that is what we are seeing here. There finally is some real motivation going on here and you cant bang that. They said in the podcast that the commentary technology will be able to tell when a line was used last and it will put other lines in there so it doesn't get too repetitive. Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
I haven't read through every page in this thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating someone.
I think the sounds are an upgrade, but Madded 12 had the worst commentary in the business imo so it had nowhere to go but up. Bottom line is I don't think it's close to being in the same league as NBA12, the Show or even NHL 11 by the sounds of this....
I liked the qb cadences, but that's about it. Everything else is still not up to par with other sports games. The crowd in particular sounded non-existant. Disappointing since I really expected EA to bring it in this department this year. It won't be a game killer for me, but isn't changing my opinion that this game will be a no buy or even rent for me either.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Gameplay With Jim Nantz and Phil Simms In-Game Commentary
If you're concerned about the crowd you need to check out the podcast audio especially at 11:49, the crowd sounds great. They recorded the crowd live from nfl games last year and in the past they only used 4 mics to record, this year they used 24, and from the samples in the podcast it is a huge improvement. Player hits sound great too.I haven't read through every page in this thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating someone.
