    CODEMASTERS ANNOUNCES DiRT® SHOWDOWN™ FOR 2012

All-action Trailer Reveals a Brand new and explosive extension of the DiRT series coming May 2012

Check out the new DiRT Showdown screenshots, right here.

Los Angeles, Calif. – Dec. 12, 2011 – Set to deliver a brand new dive-in-and-drive rush of speed, style and destruction, today Codemasters® announced that DiRT Showdown, an action packed extension of the award-winning DiRT series, will debut May 2012 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC.

In DiRT Showdown, players will jump into a new world of competitive and combative racing, boosting, tricking and smashing their way to “Showdown” finals on a chaotic tour of motorised mayhem. The first trailer capturing the unique atmosphere and high-octane thrills of DiRT Showdown is now playing at www.dirtgame.com.

“DiRT Showdown is not the sequel to the authentic rally-centric DiRT 3, but a brand new experience from the DiRT team,” said Julian Widdows, VP, development. “We’re building on Codemasters Racing Studio’s world-class strengths in track design, graphics, AI, damage and online to create a new theatre of racing with the emphasis on accessibility and fun from race one.”

“DiRT Showdown charges into the arcade racing space with a uniquely Codemasters feel,” said Mike Chapman, senior games designer. “Whether players are using nitrous to boost, smashing into their opponents or pulling off stunts, DiRT Showdown’s fresh handling system and super-charged damage engine embed excitement into every event.”

There are three broad categories to DiRT Showdown’s action-sport racing. Players will use nitrous to blast past rivals and negotiate courses filled with ramps, multiple routes and obstacles in full-contact Racing events. Gaming’s most advanced damage engine is unleashed in Demolition Derby themed events where players smash and crash their way to victory in bone-jarring style. Finally, in Hoonigan events, gamers will send fans wild in huge stunt parks where accessible new controls offer every player the chance to become a freestyle driving hero.

From San Francisco to Miami and London to Tokyo, players will dominate their rivals and wow the crowds. Pyrotechnics, lasers and thousands of fans give each venue a sports entertainment atmosphere, becoming the perfect stage for players to perform. Over 50 different events across four championships will challenge gamers in a variety of conditions – sun, snow and rain – through the day and under the floodlights at night.

DiRT Showdown will feature an exciting new line up of off-road machines. Ken Block’s all new Gymkhana FOUR H.F.H.V. Ford Fiesta debuts alongside an eclectic mix of vehicles across a range of classes. From saloons and muscle cars to pick-up-trucks, hearses and vans, players have a wide selection of custom cars to trick, race and destroy.

DiRT Showdown will be Codemasters’ most connected game ever – split-screen multiplayer, eight-player online racing, on and off-line quick-fire party games and YouTube integration all come as standard. Players will also be able to issue “Showdown” Challenges’ to compete with friends whether they are online or not.

Powered by the award-winning EGO Game Technology Platform, DiRT Showdown will be uncaged May 2012 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC.

The bar for arcade dirt fun :

TD Eve of Destruction and Flat Out

Why didn't Codemaster just make this a DLC expansion other than greed? Throw a couple ovals, a super 8, a demo derby and a slew of dirt track cars and silly trucks into Dirt3. You don't need to play with the handling - it was far from a 'sim' to begin with.

Blech.... do we not have enough of these already? And to think this is from the same development firm that brought us TOCA 2 and TOCA 3!?

Uh oh... I don't like this at all. Codemasters has a niche.. and it ain't arcade racing. Don't do it Codemasters, it's called brand confusion, and you want no part of it.

It's like they wanted to create another game with the festival theme ala DiRT 2 because they were so rally focused in DiRT 3. Could be good.

I like this. I have found myself complaining when a game maker does not push the envelope and releases the same game with minor tweaks. I think Codemasters is thinking outside of the box and wants to keep things fresh, this is great news for the gamer. They know where their bread and butter is and wont be leaving the rally/race stuff that made the Dirt series so popular, this is more of an expansion of the Dirt franchise rather than a departure. Isn't this what we want from a sports/racing franchise?

Re: DiRT Showdown Announced, Fact Sheet, Trailer and Screenshots

                    So anyone get it?

                    Got a 7 from Gamesradar: http://www.gamesradar.com/dirt-showdown-review/

All of the above probably sounds unfairly harsh on what is still a higher-quality game than most. And on the occasions that you find yourself in a close race in one of the better-looking environments, the game feels like a 10/10.

With the close, aggressive racing and downright spectacular physics, the racing is by far the best bit of the game, running like a deluxe version of DiRT 2. But then you find yourself in another arena event, getting squashed between a concrete wall and a van travelling at 60mph and emerging with barely a dent while the announcer says "It's like watching two cars drive into each other… oh, wait – they are." That's when you start to wonder where the 'DiRT' in the title has actually gone.

Nonetheless, taken on its own merit, DiRT Showdown is a fantastic-looking game that's player-friendly and slickly presented. Its heart beats with the slickest version yet of Codemasters' phenomenal driving engine, ensuring every single new play gives you something amazing to enjoy. But it feels too reined in, so instead of being absolutely mental, it only feels 'pretty crazy'.

You're left with an enjoyable and highly playable racing game with loads to do and, just occasionally, some of the most exhilarating action in any racing game, ever. If only Codies had ramped up the damage and placed a bit more emphasis on racing events, this would be essential.

As it is, it's still a quality purchase for casual racing fans and undoubtedly a perfect gift for a child (and we mean that genuinely without any hint of derision). But for everyone else, it fails to surpass the still-incredible DiRT 2.

We played the Xbox 360 version of the game for this review

                    You'll love

                    Tyres and cars flying everywhere
                    Large variety of gameplay modes
Beating your mates by a tenth of a second

                    You'll hate

                    Unsatisfying car damage and collisions
                    Stripped-back feeling compared to peers
                    Being referred to as 'They'

                      It's on sale for $40 here: http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/ca/e...dirt-showdown/

Of course I'm sure there'll be a Steam summer sale soon enough and it'll be $25.
