Am I the only one having this issue?
One major issue I am having with this game is that it seems like once you give up two or three consecutive hits, it is literally impossible to get an out until the other team has about 6 or 7 runs. It could be the Astros with all of the pitcher ratings/sliders all the way up and the hitter ratings/sliders all the way down and it would still be like this. Is anyone else having this issue? Are there certain things I can do to prevent it? It is almost like there is no such thing as giving up one run in an inning, it's either none or 8.Tags: None -

Do you switch pitchers after giving up a run or two? Does it help? There's been lots of talk about this game having momentum/comeback AI. It's standard in every sports video game today. FIFA's probably the worst, where the CPU will play like morons and spot you a couple goals, and then start playing like Barcelona until they're three goals up, lol. -

Re: Am I the only one having this issue?
To enjoy these sports games, you have to come to terms with the fact that the coding in these games is totally fubar at times, bottomline. In The Show for example, due to the over-the-top confidence programming, once a pitcher gives up a couple of hits he suddenly becomes entirely useless. So you have to get him out of there, even if it's the first couple of innings.
You can only work with what the game programming gives you, even if it's not what would actually happen in real life. Every time I get a new game, I spend the first couple weeks playing exhibition games, testing out the game programming to see what the game will and won't do.Last edited by Yeats; 05-29-2012, 03:36 PM.Comment

Re: Am I the only one having this issue?
After giving up three or so hits, a mound visit to improve composure seems to help. I also shift my pitching to throw a few more balls since I seem to get more swings and misses at them once the AI becomes more aggressive. I do have innings where I give up two or three, but it seems to avoid the really huge innings.Comment

I have had bad innings here and there but not anythingthat really concerns me. For about the same amountof big innings. Against me I have managed to work myself out of major jams. I think sliders play a big part in this also. I am using beetlebums sliderder set and I have a great franchise going with them without to many crazy things going on.Comment

Re: Am I the only one having this issue?
yeah you can't just go on pitch counts...
sometimes your starter just doesn't have it.
I am on a 10 game win streak in my franchise, Holland goes out and can't hit his spots for me no matter how perfect I get the motion... it's either a ball or a fat pitch, I manage to work out of jams in the first 3 innings but in the latter 2 innings I had long relief pitchers up and warming. I manage to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd, go back out and Holland is even worse now giving up back to back doubles and a homer. I basically have 3 pitchers near 100% ready so Hollands day is done quick like. I manage to scrape out a 4-3 but heavily burn my bullpen.
the next day after calling up a starter for a spot start I start out even crazier... Tanner Sheppers is set up perfectly, Hamilton hits a 3 run homer to start the game and I'm thinking I'm gonna roll. basically the only pitch I can spot is his fastball and going into the 2nd inning the score is tied 3-3... I take 5-3 lead going into the bottom half, Sheppers is wild and all of his pitches are Red... I give up the lead 5-6 going into the 3rd. basically thanks to Josh Hamilton hitting 3 homers and a double, that if 2feet to the left woulda been a 4th homer, I am able to win 8-7 but my bullpen is destroyed because on back to back days I had to pull my starter before the 3rd inning was over.
tonight I have Yu Darvish going, he's had back-to-back complete games, and I really need him to give me 7+ innings because I have 1 reliever who should be 100% by today's game and maybe another that could give me 10-15 pitches.
you have to manage you pitchers stamina and composure big time, then you have to manage the reality of whether or not he is locating his pitches. I can usually tell which of the pitchers pitches are going to be "accurate" and which are going to be a toss-up, i.e. his Fastball today seems to be constantly higher than the "actual" pitch location, his slider keeps locating left of location, his 2-seemer is random and his curveball is wild... from there I work with it unless he is getting lit up.Comment

Re: Am I the only one having this issue?
It's not "comeback AI" or anything like that. It's the batter-pitcher battle feature. It's way overdone. A simple single drops the rating of a pitch, and it normally takes a strikeout (with that pitch) to get it back. So once they start getting hits, your pitcher's pitches aren't as good, so it's easier for them to get more hits, etc. It's flawed. It's why performance should never affect ratings, in game or in progression, since it's a snowball effect. I like the idea, and the fact that the cpu will start looking for a certain pitch if you overuse it is great. But I hate how easy it is for pitch ratings to drop.Comment
