Ok guys, I know that most of us are frustrated over this. But this doesn't mean we can disregard the rules of the site. This is including, but not limited to the following:

Constructive Criticism
We allow all opinions on Operation Sports. But if you want to be negative, it needs to be constructive. Bashing a game developer is not constructive at all, for any reason. Bashing a game period is not constructive. Whining/complaining/acting like a middle schooler is not constructive. If you want to be constructive, say what is wrong with the game specifically. Any negativity that is not constructive will not be tolerated.

This is nothing like the 2K mode.

On 2K, you can play with the TEAMS of those great players. You can unlock historical teams. This way I can pretend I'm actually playing the 1998 Finals all over again. You can even put those teams in Association and run a season with historical teams.

Not just that, but the skillsets of the players are accurate. It's not just maxing out stats and having a stupid bullet time button, it's actually having Pippen play like Pippen or Larry Bird play like Larry Bird or Magic Johnson play like Magic Johnson. They have tendencies and skillsets that reflect the real player. Retro equipment. Retro arenas. Retro uniforms. Retro TV style looks. They even have broadcast style commentary for each and every classic matchup.

But Heisman modes only novelty is being able to put Charlie Ward on the Gators and using bullet time to run up the score on FSU and Miami?....and that's it? Oh yeah, then play a Road To Glory with the same player you just played a dynasty season with.

It's a slap in the face of 2K and those who enjoyed that mode to say 'this is just like that." No it's not. The NBA 2k mode is a well thought out, well implemented mode with attention to detail and authenticity. It's something for the sim heads and the casual fans. Heisman mode is a half-hearted attempt to capitalize on the success of that.

It's like that movie company the The Asylum that copies famous movies, but they are terrible straight to dvd attempts. Transformers hits theaters, and The Asylum releases Transmorphers.

Heisman mode=straight to dvd quality feature.

At the very least, they could have spent some time working on Heisman in Dynasty. Heisman presentation? Better Heisman logic?

It's basically the same concept. The point of NBA's Greatest mode was to play as some of the greatest players in NBA history. The point of this mode is to play as some of the greatest players in NCAA history.

You argue that the players in NBA's Greatest mode weren't all maxed out. That's because relative to other NBA players, they aren't far superior (with a couple exceptions such as MJ obviously). A guy like Scottie Pippen probably isn't better than today's LeBron James. Therefore, his ratings aren't superior to LeBron's. Meanwhile in this mode, you have someone like Barry Sanders, who is the most elusive running back in NFL history. Compare that to guys that high-rated RBs in COLLEGE and the difference is gigantic. Not to mention the fact that you have a lot of people that complain that Michael Jordan is marginally better than LeBron and that "if LeBron is a 98, MJ should be like a 120 overall". NCAA actually does this, and now they get lambasted for it.

NCAA flat out doesn't have player tendencies, and tendencies just don't really work in football games the way it works in basketball. In basketball, there's more free-lancing/options. In football, you call a play and stick to that exact play (with the exception of some guys/some routes where guys can break off). You're not going to see a "Call for jump ball pass" tendency for a WR like you'll see a "Post up tendency" for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. That idea doesn't really make sense for football games.

You argue that NBA did it right by having all the retro teams and stuff that you played with. I don't know if you noticed, but there were TONS of complaints about the fact that 2K didn't allow you to take the legends and put them on other teams/didn't allow you to take a legend into My Player mode. NCAA decided to focus on putting the legends in today's game. They just decided to appease the same people that clamored for this option in 2K's mode. Both 2K and NCAA missed out on a big opportunity in that way.

I'm watching the webcast and I really don't even see this appealing to 'casual' players.

At least with the mascot mode, I can put my 8 year old nephew in front of the TV and he can have a blast. If I put Heisman mode in front of him, he wouldn't know what to do.

I think Heisman mode will fail because it falls somewhere in the middle of arcade and sim. It's neither arcade/play it right now enough for the sisters and mothers and young children (no offense to women, I know some are sim heads too) or sim enough for most users on this site.

I can see some liking it, some trying it for a day or two because they are bored, and some playing it as an alternative to RTG. But I can't see the mode being a huge hit among the two larger demographics.

It'll be removed in a year or two most likely, IMO.

Now that I've cooled off since reading about all of these features, let me share my thoughts:

- This is a gimmick, period. People could create these "legends" on their own in the past very easy. Heck - I've done this (my created Barry Sanders in NCAA 06 was a monster).

- Players don't appear to have the old school facemasks.

- I can't imagine any scenario where I would actually use this feature.

- With all of the core gameplay and equipment requests made on this site via wishlists for years (and several other sites as well), it blows my mind that we still have a football the size of a large watermelon and no long socks - but we have....Charlie Ward? Wait, what!?

- Robert Griffin's Baylor green isnt even close. For crying out loud, he is the cover athlete.

You make fair points, especially regarding the ratings. But I still say the 'same concept' thing is just like how Transmorphers has the same concept as Transformers. Riding a tricycle has the same concept as riding a motorcycle. It still remains that the experience of Heisman mode is nothing like the experience of the 2k Mode. And it's a slap in the face to insists that it is, IMO.

I also will agree to disagree with the point you made about tendencies. And fwiw, you can put the legends on regular teams. I just ran a fantasy draft with legends and todays players.

NCAA focused on the what-if scenario of what if Legend A chose School A instead of School B/what if Legend A played in today's NCAA.

Regarding the NBA 2k12 part, when did that happen? Because there was a huge uproar about that feature being left out for awhile. Can you, for example, put Larry Bird on the Miami Heat with LeBron and Wade now? Or is it just putting the 85 or whatever Celtics in an association and doing a fantasy draft?
