It takes 3 or 4 hard strides to get to that point. Having a button most likely wouldn't achieve that. If they could find a way, then that's great.

Also No I'm not talking about vision control at all. I'm talking when you tap LT this year with the puck the guy sprints ahead for a short burst. IRL the player would have been increasing his speed the whole way to get by the D Man, not just all of a sudden decide they need an extra speed burst to get by. It's cheap and unrealistic. I know vision control is that button when you hold it down but that's not what I'm talking about.

As for cycling I understand they can catch a d man. I'm saying it is very rare that a player is going top speed inside of the zone when setting up a play. There are too many players and not enough space to do that. They would get out of control. They take quick strides and glide in order to have control of their feet, which allows them to get by defenders when they have the puck.
I don't necessarily have a problem with top-end speed being a product of the player, but I do take slight issue with players pushing the puck ahead like that without the user deciding.

I don't think Rammer really meant top speed while cycling, just a quicker first step due to their being momentum down that the Dman would need to adjust. No more stopping and changing direction on a dime.

Eh still taking a show me the full game or Aug for the demo to really decide one way or the other stance. It's early still though.
Ya I know Rammer didn't mean top speed when cycling. I fully agree with the first quick step because that's the stride you have to use inside both the offensive and defensive zone. As long as it stays as quick short strides and gliding rather than long strides trying to achieve top speed then I'm completely happy. Long strides should really only be used in open space when trying to beat a defender. I agree with sliders being put in which should help greatly if it seems players are going too fast. All of this is just speculation of course because truly we won't find out how it all works until the demo.

ComaFaction see I think there wouldn't be a problem if it's automatically done for you, as long as it's at the right time. My belief is that if they implement the skating like it should, we shouldn't have a problem with the decisions our player makes on his own. If it is coded with a button then I'm fine with it as long as it's realistic looking and feeling.

Also from what I've seen it isn't going to be pushing the puck. Players are skating and controlling the puck like a real life player would. The Superstars should be faster and more skilled at handling the puck while at top speed, 3rd and 4th liners won't. There is no more pushing the puck ahead I don't believe. Maybe in space, but it won't be that canned animation from tapping LT/L2. It's all on the player being able to control the puck at different speeds which is the way it should be.

Does anyone know the status for getting NCAA teams in the game?

I think I remember hearing that they 'might' be in NHL 12, but it was more likely that would get pushed back to NHL 13.

I would be stoked if they get the license to have college teams in the game!!

I don't think there's been a video game that had both college and pro teams on the same cart/disc since Super Play Action Football on the SNES.

Plus the NCCA has a reputation for asking way too much for their licensing.

Yeah but what about that huge college hockey fan market that they could tap into????

......wait.....what???? There isn't millions of people in Bemidgi, MN?

I know for a fact that there is a contingency of people that would buy NHL 13 if there were NCAA teams in it.

Not as much as it would cost to get the rights, but still. A guy can dream, can't he?

Gopher Guy you are correct about the article but it was actually way back in May 2010 they posted it. They said it wasn't going to be in NHL 11 but possibly in 12. Here is the link to the article http://kotaku.com/5548672/ncaa-hocke...-eas-nhl-title Now that it's NHL 13 I think things have passed over. I'm sure the NCAA is hard to win over because all they want is money. It would be a dream come true if they were to add it, but I just don't see it happening.

To satisfy myself I just create college teams with players in the game that are alumni. Normally St. Cloud, MIN, WIS, BU, BC, UND, Michigan, and Michigan State. They normally all have enough players to pick from between the NHL, AHL, and all of the Euro teams to fill a roster. It's actually fairly simple to do. It's kind of cool because you can add the college helmet to each player to. Gives it a little college feel. I've even gone as far as adding in custom sounds for St. Cloud, MN, UND, Michigan, and WIS. BTW it is unbelievable how many great players played for UND. The team is stacked except for goaltending.

I'm realy impressed with what I see so far; live goalies, smoother skating, AI especially. I have to say that I'm looking forward to strategy customization the most.

Since they did away with cutscenes, what are they doing about post-goal celebrations? Also, I'm interested in finding about exactly what "Team First Presentation" means..

Graphics: very noticeable upgrade. I noticed this from the first trailer and the screenshots, but to see actual gameplay is pretty impressive. Now all we have to wait for is some actual live, in-game footage (minus the short clips).

Only unfortunate thing is that right now, it doesn't sound like BaGM nor BaPro got very much attention, since they're integrating this GM Connected mode.

Even so, keep in mind that the EA NHL devs really aren't given a large sum of money to work with, when compared to say Madden. Hockey = smaller market versus football; the same goes for college football when compared to college hockey. It'd be nice to see NCAA incorporated into NHL games, but it's unlikely, and I doubt it'd be integrated farther than say scouting.

I hope they change the deking system. but I think it wont happen ever. it is to mechanical. and as it was in '12 where you almost stopped while you deked was very annoying.

The stopping while dekeing was to counteract the fact you could score about 90% of the time on breakaways with the same move. However players do naturally slow down IRL when they are deking. That's another thing that may be added this year to separate players. I fully agree on the skill stick. Since 07 they really haven't changed any part to it to make it more like a player would stick handle in real life. They have too much control and reach with the puck and other things that I've listed off multiple times.

It seems like I bitch about this game a lot haha. The only reason I do is because I care just as everyone else here. This game has so much potential but it's like the dev team doesn't quite understand how to make this game more replicated to real life. Maybe they've maxed out what they can do. I'm not a programmer so I wouldn't know, but I am a consumer and just as anyone else if the product hasn't been very good, you complain. I just think it's catered too much to the non traditional hockey fan, which makes it fun for them. That's probably where a lot of their sales come from though. I totally understand the game is not going to be completely realistic because hockey is IMO the toughest sport to emulate in a video game. The Show is great because baseball is a little bit simpler sport to replicate. People may disagree but the things that happen in hockey are just so much different than any other sport. The physics, speed, and bounces. Each sport is unique in their own way, but hockey is the craziest. I just don't think the dev team has shown anything the past 6 years that says we are going into the direction of realism. NHL 13 seems like it has the potential to do that so hopefully it will follow through.

Honestly, i'm kind of hoping they take a few pages out of the FIFA book. I love the after goal celebrations because it doesn't take you out of the game, you can celebrate however you want, and your team runs up to celebrate with you.
It would be nice to have you get the ability to do whatever move you choose after scoring, then all 4 players come around you and form the little circle they always do.

Ramjagsingh's answer on the game face could go either way. Could be there is something they are waiting to unveil later (ICE-FACE!) or a slightly depressing "No game face this year"

A FIFA style celebration system is a must. You can do whatever cele you want, but at the end of it, your teammates come up to you, and then you all skate by your bench.

That will be one if those little things that would make the game much more enjoyable for me.
