He's not really wrong, but at the same time no one in the ACC has really stepped up to bring it to respectability(VT is decent, but not good enough)Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Maybe not in quality of play wise, but FSU sure helps revenue wise. They have a nice national fanbase and still make bowls almost every year.Football: Denver Broncos
Baseball: Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs
Hockey: Allentown Phantoms
NCAA: The College of William and Mary Tribe

Re: FSU was supposed to save the ACC instead it's killing it.
I think it's a weak move for us to leave the ACC. Going to the Big 12 is stupid IMO because of the travel alone. If FSU was serious about being a Nat'l Championship contender we'd carry our behinds right to the SEC. But like the article said moving conferences isn't going to help FSU because we can't even dominate the ACC right now. Even Bobby Bowden said they ought to stay put if they wanna win a title because it would be much easier in the ACC.
But the thing is they can't even seem to make it close to it the last 3 years they have said they were back. If they did get back it could be like how USC did it for years because they were good and that the conference had nobody to challenge them except a surprise team here an there...Comment

Re: FSU was supposed to save the ACC instead it's killing it.
Isn't there some sort of "gentlemen's agreement" among the SEC member institutions where they won't let in any new members who reside in the state of a current member (thus ruling out schools such as Georgia Tech, Florida State, and Miami)?
As to what FSU would add: well, money, tradition, and a huge alumni base would be a good starting point.
To the article, Doyle is a blowhard and his words don't carry much weight with me. I respect his right to have an opinion on the matter, however, but I stand by mine that the ACC will be just fine.Comment

FSU would add nothing?
They wouldn't add a new location to the SEC, but they would probably add the largest fan base available out there besides Notre Dame. Not to mention everything else the school itself adds that's been mentioned.
Just be honest it all comes down to the fact that UF would flip the F out if FSU was even considered to join the SEC.Last edited by Chrisksaint; 06-03-2012, 03:30 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: FSU was supposed to save the ACC instead it's killing it.
Yeah FSU would bring the rest of the state of FL. There are I think around 20 million in FL, UF doesn't have all of them and neither does the SEC. FSU also has one of the largest national fan bases, just look at the all time watched games, FSU is in a lot of them.
UF doesn't want anything to do with FSU in the SEC though. UF likes to tell recruits they play in the SEC and FSU doesn't, if UF loses that, it will hurt recruiting. UF, UGA, USC supposedly have an agreement to vote against FSU, GaTech, and Clemson being allowed in.Comment

I think the Big 12 may help more than people think. FSU may be a strong program with history, but they are recruiting kids to play in a pretty weak conference. The chance to play in FLA and play Oklahoma and Texas in strong football conference that is on national TV a lot will improve their recruiting vs. Florida.
I think the ACC was a bigger anchor on FSU than the other way around.

And if there are 20 million in the state of Florida alone with 1,000's and 1,000's being recruits in high school I highly doubt Florida would be much effected by not being able to say they play in the SEC and FSU does not lol
I'll take the 2 new states added to the SEC being big Texas and Missouri just my 2 cents. There was a good article about it if I can find it...Comment

Re: FSU was supposed to save the ACC instead it's killing it.
UF isn't scared about playing FSU(although given their OOC schedules they probably actually are), they are scared of FSU being in the same conference as them.
UF would see a drop in some of the top recruits in FL because some of those guys want to only play in the SEC, which FSU can't offer.
From a pure $$ aspect, adding FSU would have been the best option for the SEC. Given their national audience, sealing up the rest of FL as mentioned, and all the more interesting matchup it creates for television(FSU vs. LSU/Bama/UGA,etc. are much better must watch games on CBS or whatever then Mizzou/A&M playing the SEC)Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
