i personally love them to see my receiver turn around on his own and play the ball at its highest point actually keeps me from switching onto them just to see if they will do it every time. i used to have to run my receiver in a horse shoe type pattern to get them to jump and now i find that doing this actually stops me from catching the ball.

how is everyone enjoying the new catching animations? what adjustments have you had to make from the way you previously played the game? what buttons are you guys pushing to trigger different animations? have you been able to effectively box out a DB and win a jump ball? if so is it all positioning or is there a button to "box out"?

The animations are definitely better. It's nice to actually see the receiver go up for the ball at its highest point while running.

idk. Seems to me that you get a wider variety of animations with user catches. Plus it seems to drastically increase your odds of catching the ball. Just my opinion. Either way, it's definitely an improvement. Atleast WRs go up for the ball now. DBs actually do too. No more stupid rocket catchesTOUCHDOWN MSU!!!

while i do think that user catching does give u an advantage i believe the advantage isnt as big this year because of how well the CPU plays the ball on both O and D.
i was really surprised to see a CPU CB jump an out route and take it to the house. i wasnt mad at all actually was happy to see them make such a realistic play.
when this is mixed with the infinity engine in madden we should see a very improved game on the field.Comment

This. Once i stopped user catching, the passing game became even more ridiculous for me, im f-ing loving this game.
Been seeing some great animations too, yesterday i had a db literally reached in and swiped the football outta my wr hands on a jump ball, i creamedPSN-FORDTUFF504

THe new animations are good if not great. Ive seen alot of things you would see in real life. Jump balls look good. Had a couple of dbs actually try to to slap the ball out of my hands while going up which i loved. I threw a jump ball to robert woods in the back corner of the endzone and the jump was great and the db was great it looked almost real which was amazing.Comment

It's hard to gauge right now.....
But I plan on jakcking up the WR catch slider to higher values because I think there are more animations that will trigger this year the higher you set that slider.

All I have to say, is it looks as if the "Rocket Catch" will not be easy to do this year. So that takes out a cheesy part of the game. I'm loving the new animations, I have played hours already of the demo and keep seeing new ones!Comment

I like a lot of the lateral on-the-run type catching animations on underneath routes and ins/outs. It helps those routes out a lot because your WR doesn't slow down and you get work up to the next level.
I've seen a lot of weird animations to though. I've had a couple jumping catches on comeback routes to the near sideline where the jump was unnecessary and the animation took him way out of bounds. I've had a few outside shoulder jump ball type throws on the sideline where the WR turned the wrong way and basically did a 270 degree jump in midair rather than just turn the short way. I had a quick hitch route at the 2 yard line where my WR's on-the-run animation ended up taking him backwards and out of the endzone. It was called a TD on the field but reviewed and called just short.
I'm a little worried some animations will be triggered and have a detrimental impact on your team. Still love what I'm seeing there though. I'll probably fire up my air raid offense from last year again seeing the improvements (and ease).Comment

I'm really loving the animations this year. They're much more realistic than any animation they've ever had in the game. I haven't seen that weird catch animation (can't explain it) that has always irritated the hell outta me.
Oh, and the ball actually spins one direction now instead of magically shifting opposite directions mid flight. That also caught my eye.
With this just being the demo, I'm pretty excited about the full release. It seems as if the addition of more developers and the arrival of Cam Weber has really shaken things up at EA. Bright future for us football gamers after all.
