Ten Years of Tigers History - An "Every-Pitch" The Show Franchise!

Hello everyone, and thanks for taking a look at my new franchise thread for MLB: The Show 2012!

Most of the regular users of The Show forums here on Operation Sports have heard about my "franchise plan" -- so in this post, I'll fill you in on some background about me, my franchise histories, and more -- so you know that it is worth your time to start reading this franchise story, and that you can expect that time to be filled for probably the next 4-5 years.

My name is Jay Jackson, I used to post here under that name, and also on MaddenMania and other "oldschool" sports gaming forums. I'm a diehard "realism" franchiser, so baseball has been a very tough sell for me over the last few years. I currently have (and just retired with the purchase of Show 12) two franchises in MVP 2005 (heavily modified to 2011), that I have played every single pitch with the franchise team for 5 seasons at least. My Tigers franchise is currently in 2018, and my Braves franchise is in 2017. So, I am not someone who starts something he won't finish.

More background: I bought the PS3 strictly for this game, and have ZERO problem with playing this game for the next four to five years with a great franchise. I will of course buy the new versions, starting with 13, but more to play with friends and online. I guess this is a good point to bring you up to speed on "The Plan!"

Ten Years of Tigers History -- "The Plan"

The plan is actually very simple. I do like and see the value of those players who play one game, and then sim five so they get a rotation of starters. I'm just a "realistic-stats" freak that I get frustrated, especially in a game like baseball with so many games -- that the stats accrued aren't MINE! I usually will run a "play one, sim five" alongside my main franchise, just for low pressure fun -- but I digress.

The plan is to play TEN SEASONS with the Detroit Tigers, playing EVERY PITCH in EVERY TIGERS GAME for those ten seasons. I estimate at my general pace of play, that it will take probably 3.5 years at the earliest point, and 5 years at the most. You can play a maximum of 20 playoff games in each postseason, if you go to the final game in each series, for a total of **1820 POSSIBLE GAMES WITH NO LESS THAN 1620 GAMES** over the course of this franchise.

I had just played a 3 game set with a "test" franchise to make sure my Freezing issues were alleviated completely, and now I will be starting my Ten Years of Tigers History in the next 3 posts. I am going to go reply to this message twice to get two editable messages so I can post the lineups and pitching rotations for Opening Day and beyond.

After the initial update, I will be updating every *10* games, and doing a "leaguewide" update every 25 games, so you will be able to see how MLB develops over a long period of time, with user input in every game.

Updates will be EXTREMELY screen-shot intensive, it may take me a few days to get a system for how I am going to post screenshots, but I am well prepared with a new flash drive, and think that is the easiest way to post lots of information for all to see.

I thank you for beginning this journey with me, and I look forward to many years of fun with all of you.

Franchise Settings - Ten Years of Tigers History

We started off with, and intend to play all 10 seasons with Armor and Swords fine slider package, his HYBRID version. It consists of Timing Hitting, and Classic Pitching -- which 99% of OS'ers say is by far the best setup for statistical realism (Timing/Classic) and letting the players abilities really take hold.

The Hybrid sliders use Veteran for Hitting Difficulty, and All-Star for Pitching Difficulty. His sliders are for auto fielders, I have increased errors to 6 for fielding and throwing errors, as I control every action including fielding. I am a Pure Analog thrower on All-Star level, with assist fielding.

I use a customized broadcast camera to where I am directly behind my pitcher for pitching, and I use the Catcher Classic camera while I am at the plate. No strikezone, no hot zones, etc. Medium fielding view.

Response to IM: This is a ONE-TEAM control franchise. The CPU will be responsible 100% for all organizations except for the Detroit Tigers. We will then have years of analysis to truly break down the logic of CPU trades.

If you have any questions about a slider or game setting that I am using, please feel free to ask! Thanks again for following!

Re: Ten Years of Tigers History - An "Every-Pitch" The Show Franchise!

I am going to go start Opening Day in about five minutes, with the lineups listed above, as we will be facing Josh Beckett and the Boston Red Sox, and our "rosters" show our RHP lineups. Should be a great contest as reigning American League Cy Young and MVP Justin Verlander heads to the hill to hopefully start 2012 on an amazing note!

(editors note: I have not yet synced YouTube to my PS3, but it is possible for big games like these, I made add my highlight videos. OTHERWISE, EXPECT UPDATES EVERY 10 GAMES, and LEAGUEWIDE EVERY 25 GAMES!)

            GO TIGERS! GO JV!

ALL OS'ERS MAY BEGIN COMMENTING AFTER THIS POINT - AND THANKS AS ALWAYS FOR READING!

Re: Ten Years of Tigers History - An "Every-Pitch" The Show Franchise!

Well, no screenshot or video -- but I did say I'd at least update after Opening Day to get started!

                  2012 OPENING DAY

                  Boston Red Sox 7
                  at
                  Detroit Tigers 3 (F/10)

This was an amazing game, and obviously a devastating loss in the end. I'm not actually at the PS3 right now, so this recap will strictly be from my head.

Beckett and Verlander were the Opening Day starters, and both really pitched very well. Verlander went 6 innings, and I believe he gave up 6 hits and walked 2. His only true mistake of the afternoon was to David Ortiz, who unfortunately took him yard for a three-run homer.

Freddie Freeman was the Home Plate Umpire in this game, and his strike zone, while consistent, is always freakishly small -- so Verlander was forced to throw a lot of pitches. With him at 90 pitches, I didn't even have him come out to start the 7th -- it had already brought up the "Verlander is getting tired" graphic, which is very unusual that early for JV, but again he had thrown a lot of high stress at-bats with deep counts.

Beckett, as I said earlier -- really did pitch fantastically. The Tigers lone run before the 9th inning came on a Jhonny Peralta RBI Single, so through eight innings, it was 3-1 Red Sox. That's when things got very interesting!

Beckett came out to start the 9th, facing Prince Fielder... he'd been throwing a ton of first pitch strikes, and even though I'm usually not a first-pitch swinger (sometimes with Delmon Young for realism) -- I took a solid rip at a Beckett fastball with Fielder and it was a beautiful line-shot single into right-center field.

The manager who looks nothing like Bobby Valentine () came out at this point, immediately signalling for the right handed closer... Andrew Bailey. (as stated, I use OSFM Opening Day, and did not alter injuries -- VMart sits in Class A for me, glad he had an option!)

A second straight rip single and we've got first and second with no one down... Avila up to the plate. I *did* consider laying one down here and making it 2nd and 3rd with 1 down, but instead I swung away... hard.

Avila blasted it off the wall in deep-right center, just underneath the yellow line. Both runners scored, but I didn't let go of the "advance all" quite in time and Avila broke the cardinal rule of never making the first or last out at 3rd base, by about a step and a half. We went quietly at this point, but Andrew Bailey had a blown save for his efforts.

I won't go into too much detail about the 10th inning collapse, with Dotel pitching, except to say it started in horrible fashion... I believe it was Cody Ross who hit a very deep fly to right field and Brennan Boesch had an easy bead on it... As I was settling under it, he began the "just a slow run, easy play jog" animation that they go into as you track fly balls that you hadn't settled under yet...

And the ball bounced right out of his mitt, and the next thing you know -- Ross is standing on 3rd base with nobody down. It spiraled out of control from there, with Dotel giving up 4 runs, 2 earned -- and the Tigers went quietly in their half of the 10th, to start "Ten Years of Tigers History" with a head-shaking loss to where it was one of my mistakes (Avila not being on 2nd with no one out with a chance to walk off with a win) and one by Boesch who gave away what could have been a thrilling victory, and instead is just the first loss of a young franchise.

                  NOTES:

Just reminding that I'll be doing screenshot intensive updates every 10 games for my team, and looking at the league every 25 or so -- I will not be writing recaps such as this daily. I do intend to figure out how I can get my "Highlight Reel" videos off to CPU like I do my Screenshots or if I use YouTube or what not... and if so I'll save those and try to send them through in blocks of five for those that are interested.

If there are going to be things you want to see for updates, please let me know. Each post can only have five screenshots, so I'm not sure yet how I will format my updates.

Thanks as always for reading, and welcome to the new followers above! I appreciate your support and look forward to years of fun with you!

Yes, I've noticed the Sparty logo, but I've chosen to ignore it...

Not a Walmart Wolverine, however... I actually went to that blue school.

Thanks for the follow... The only way I wouldn't go forward for the entire 10 years on this would be if the community in large numbers told me they wanted me to document my "Play One - Sim Five with Postseason with AL/NL" over like 25 years...

I was just going to play and play and play -- but I figure that doing the story, I will give enjoyment to some, let stats buffs have stuff to pick apart, and maybe show something no one knows in the game later down the years or find some weird bug from playing all those games. So, away we go.

Just so glad that the freezing issues are done... I lost at least 6-7 hours of play time with games freezing on the exit screen... and some really classic games to boot!

Also, I received an IM from another friend and they told me I should mention that I am playing with one team control only, so the CPU is completely responsible for their own fortunes. We will see all the moves the CPU does, so we'll have many years with user input constantly in which to see how bad of trades they actually make, and what weird things they do with their lineups.

Going to update the settings post near the top, but wanted to mention this. Probably get 2-4 games in before bed tonight, another day off and the girlfriend is sleeping and just wants to be "woken up later!"

Very anxious to see how this turns out and I will definitely be following! Out of curiousity, did you plan on making that Neil Walker move we discussed in the Arbitration Thread that you said you were thinking about doing in your own franchise? Also, I do 1 team control as well. As bad as some of the CPU trades can be, I prefer to let them do their own thing.

I did, a press release is soon to come, once I can get back to the PS3 and confirm the prospect I sent as the "third" player in the trade, and the spelling of the name of the "third" you sent me.

Walker IS a Tiger, though -- and Duane Below has been promoted to the starting rotation.

This is looking good... if you're going Hurst, every pitch style, have you thought about doing a newspaper article style? You can incorporate screenshots into those.

Finally, something with screenshots. I use tapatalk heavily, which can't even read HTML.

Does anyone really care where I sent this from?
