    Best Draft Class Ever???

I'm only through 38 picks of the 09 English draft but I have some great players right now.
    Started with 1-1, 1-3, 1-6, 1-17, 1-28
    1-7: Javon Jackson LT Florida
    1-19: Kelly James QB Miami
    1-27: Will Barkley SS Florida
1-28: Dane Morrow QB Penn St.
    2-33: Juran Riley CB Texas

Will be adding more and may be posting this career as a dynasty

whoever the taller one is keep. they both will put up fantastic numbers but getting 2 qbs(out of 4 picks) in the first round is kinda ridiculous. Shouldnt be making that many picks that early in the draft either. It will put you in salary cap hell after a year or two.

Most of your picks should come from the 3rd through the 6th rounds with 1 pick in the first and 1 in the 2nd round. Anymore than this is hoarding talent and ruining the balance of the league. Only reason you should ever take 2 firsts or/and 2 seconds is you(or the team you're controlling) went 0-16 or 1-15.

Best draft ever would be great talents found in every round near the end of each round(25th pick of the round or later). Not taking 4 1st round picks and a 2nd....

Just my opinion, I could be wrong...

This draft will screw your team for the next 8 years, especially if you can't move one of the QB. You'll have no salary cap to get any better players , so you better hope you 1. had a good team already and 2. you can run a good spread offense

1st round picks really aren't that expensive unless you draft in the Top 8, 1-7 and 1-8 won't kill you. I will concede Morrow usually has a bigger contract than his draft position allows.

Even though theres a "discount" after pick 8 in the first round, it still is expensive to pay 3 other picks 2 million a year PLUS a 5 million dollar signing bonus(I think it is) for 5 years. Thats the thing people dont put into consideration. That makes those players extremely difficult to trade or cut because you will have to pay those bonuses if you trade them.

It hits you as a cap penalty the NEXT year. So a noob might even see that salary gone but not remember the penalty. Then he signs or trades for too expensive players, or drafts high in the draft again and he cant keep the players he needs after 2-3 years because they cost too much.

If you cut players at the right times (one being directly after the draft), the penalty goes into the current year

You're doing a bad job of player evaluation if you're cutting your 1st round picks. 2-3 million for each position for 5 years? I'll take everyone on my roster with that contract. It's really the Top 5 picks that kill you-7-10 million for each player you draft up there, and signing bonuses in the 30-60 million range. To make things worse, it can be very hard to trade down with a pick that high. If you pick a bust, you'll be paying for it for a long time. That's how perennial losing teams like the Raiders and Packers get in such bad cap trouble.

Plain and simple, in the long run too many of even those contracts can kill your budget(later first round picks).

But taking multiple picks in the first round is just cheap anyways. You're ruining the competitive balance if you're taking more than one pick in either the 1st or 2nd round OF ANY DRAFT really. Only reason you should take more than one in either of those rounds is if you take over a team that was last in the league or had a record of 4-12 or less.

Thats an unrealistic view, sometimes teams like the Patriots have 2 2nds and 2 1sts IRL

                            Re: Best Draft Class Ever???

Last year 5 teams had 2 picks in the first round. Browns Bengals Buccs(traded back in to 31) Vikings and the patriots. Ps the 2nd pick for all those teams was in the 20s-30s, so its obvioulsy a cheap tactic if you take more than one guy in the first 20 picks.

I think we can all agree before Free agency all of those teams NEEDED the extra help other than the patriots, making them the exception to the rule I proposed. Buccs cleaned up in free agency but they traded back in to 31 which is fairly reasonable if you're getting a 2nd pick in the first.

Lets go further back though. 2011 draft, again, only 1 team(the saints) took 2 picks in the 1st round, at 24 and 28. How about the 2010 draft? First time we see a team take 2 picks in the first 14(seahawks at 6 and 14) but we all can agree that team NEEDED those two positions. Only the broncos took 2 players in the first at 22 and 25 for D thomas and T Tebow that year as well. 2009 draft, Broncos 12 and 18, lions 1 and 20, bills 11 and 28. Do you see the pattern yet? They're usually terrible teams that take two picks in the first.

As you can see, its rare to see ANY team take 2 players in the first round. ON average 2 teams do it a year out of 32, thats 1/16th of the league that does it in any given year. You should be in the bottom half of the league if you're doing this usually.

The Lions had two selections in the 1st round in 2009 and 2010.

Anyways, the most 1sts a team ever had was four I believe. Frequently in this game I'll make around 4 selections on day 1, but not in the first round. Usually I don't suck enough in my 1st year to have a top 10 pick, unless I inherit it. Even then, sometimes I'd prefer to deal that high pick away.

The late rounds are where you build dynasties from. You can just load up year after year and become able to let your best guys go to FA if they want too much money. Just keep trading down.

Try the RDNK challenge: obtain all 32 picks in round 7.
